Great hotel Inn with friendly staff and a good atmosphere. Reasonably priced. Shame the village is being taken over with new housing developments. Destroys the village and not in keeping with the area . Food fantastic and packed. Breakfast on departure. Worth the price

North East stop over

We had a fantastic meal, a warm welcome and great service at the Village Inn.
We would definitely recommend if your travelling in the area .
The food was served in generous portions, fresh and piping hot , ideal on a wet day .

Great meal

OK positives first 

The staff are friendly and the breakfast was nice. But a very over cooked black pudding the was so hard you could have used it for an ice hockey puck.

Now the negative 
They require payment on àrrival before you have even seen the room .

At first glance our room looked lovely,  but on closer inspection oh dear!!, it needed a good dust and a bottom bed  sheet  that actually fitted the mattress would 
be  beneficial and  there was no protective mattress topper.

There was another massive issue with the room which resulted in a full refund. The manager / chef was very apologetic. 

The noise from downstairs on the Saturday evening was horrendous which included shouting,  loud music and a dog barking , so l shoved my ear plugs  in and tried to sleep 

We were told that the door to the bar would be locked when the pub shut and opened again in time for breakfast although there was a fire escape to leave from it felt like prison release for good behaviour. 

Would I stay here again NO

I THINK THEY NEED TO WORK OUT IF THEY WANT TO MAKE AGO OF THE PUB OR A BED AND BREAKFAST BECAUSE QUITE CLEARLY ITS NOT WORKING AS IT IS.

Stop over on way to Edinburgh

A basic roadside inn.  The meals were edible, but burger was overcooked, and so was the black pudding at breakfast.  A previous review mentions the badly-placed table at the foot of the stairs.  We were seated there as well, and I agree, it's not covid friendly, and you get sick of people pushing past (it's also on the direct route to the kitchen, so the staff are always struggling by.  
We found the staff were very friendly and welcoming.  The room was fairly basic, and the walls weren't thick enough to quieten the snoring of the bloke in the next room.
The shower was a disaster.  It's an electric jobbie, so I presume the fact that it blows hot and cold (and often just trickles) means the water pressure just isn't up to it.

Drip Drip

Stopped for lunch on way back from a walk in thrunton woods and saw this lovely little gem of a place ! Good menu choice, we chose the steak and ale pie but all the meals that came out looked fantastic! We certainly weren’t disappointed with our choice the pie was beautiful, home made pastry lid and vegetables all done to perfection! 
Great friendly chatty staff made it a fantastic little lunch trip - we will be back!

Great food and friendly staff

We popped in for dinner when staying locally. Very friendly service and good covid safe set up.

My partner had a delicious steak and ale pie and I had a mussels starter, with chilli, courgette and a big corner of bread and butter. Good choice of local beers too. 

We hope to return soon!

Delicious homecooked food

We are new to the area and just getting to know the best places to go. The Village Inn has good reviews and the photos on their website and on here looked very welcoming so we thought we would give it a visit for a meal, we were also looking for somewhere to take friends when they visit. 

Our first impressions were good, welcoming girls/ladies behind the bar and a nice ambiance. It was  early (6:30) on weekday evening but already quite busy. We were shown to a table for 2 right beside the bar, by the main thoroughfare to the exit and at the bottom of the stairs. Here is where it started to go wrong. I was not comfortable with where the table was due to covid/distancing concerns but we felt under the circumstances we couldn't pick and choose so we sat down thinking maybe it would be ok. It wasn't!! For the whole evening there were people around us, walking out, bringing food down the stairs and queuing at the bar (which I didn't think was very appropriate or even allowed in this current environment??). This situation was very unsettling and I think  this table needs to be removed, it became apparent later that there were other more suitable tables on the upper floors.

So, to the food. We ordered starters and mains and it took 45 minutes from ordering to the food being delivered. I ordered deep fried brie which I would have expected to be soft (as per menu description) and "melt in the middle" , it was a solid lump and served on a cold plate which didn't help. Main course then arrived almost immediately after the starter plates were taken away. The scampi was also served on a cold plate and the food was lukewarm at best, breadcrumb coating was overdone and had a slightly oily taste.  By contrast, the mushroom starter and burger were pretty good.

Overall disappointing but the bar staff, there appeared to be only 2 who were run off their feet, were lovely. It's a shame that this was our first visit as it is unlikely we will return. If we had been before and enjoyed a visit like so many people on here then we would probably have put it down as an "off night", it is almost like we visited a different place!

Anyone who stays here should be aware it is first and foremost a popular village pub with all that that brings  - some noisy  customers, pub quiz and piped music, sometimes very loud. All this can be clearly heard in the bedrooms above.On two nights we rang down to the bar at nearly midnight to ask when the music was going to be turned off. Two speakers were in an upstairs dining area immediately outside the corridor to the bedrooms. Music seemed to be on all day, every day.
The invisible management seemed not to care, their only concession being a dispenser for free ear plugs in the corridor. 

When the pub was closed, the door to the corridor leading to the bedrooms was locked. Then the only entry to and exit from the bedrooms was via a fire door for which we were given a key. The route out was down the corridor (which on a number of occasions was partially blocked by large laundry bags) through the fire door, down the metal fire escape and across the small kitchen yard filled with large bins of refuse.
On the plus side, the rooms were clean, the bed comfortable, the breakfast good and the lady who served them very friendly and efficient.

Would I go again? To the area, yes.it is beautiful. To the Village Inn? Definitely no.
Would I recommend it? Only if you can sleep through anything or like to join in the pub activities till closing time.

We booked for a seven night post-lockdown holiday but left after six nights.

Pity about the music

Our first visit even though we have stayed in the village numerous times. Excellent home cooked food. We all really enjoyed our meals and would definitely go back. We also enjoyed the music playing in the background!

Birthday Meal

After spending a wet afternoon in Kielder we were looking for something to eat on the way home. Everywhere seemed to stop serving at 2! We found this gem though and it allowed dogs. 
Toodles first time in a restaurant and he was good as gold! 
Food was excellent, portion sizes superb. Nothing an issue, even when my friend asked for lots of slight alterations to the menu. 
Would recommend to everyone and it allowed dogs.
