Beautiful hotel which looks over the water, step outside and watch the boats on the Oulton Broads.  The Wherry has lovely friendly staff. The rooms are immaculate and have a really nice tea and coffee tray in. The breakfasts are definitely value for money.

Staying at The Wherry

Another great stay at the Wherry Hotel.  We enjoyed the King Suite this time.  A lovely large, comfortable room.  Having been warmly welcomed at reception, we enjoyed a drink or two at the bar.  The staff are great.  Next morning, a delicious buffet breakfast was served.  We had a chat with the lovely Sue before we left.  Can't wait to return!

Food was not cooked as requested, for the steak to be pinged in the microwave and re-served, it still wasn't cooked right and the rest of the food was cold. No refund offered.   paid in advance

Rubbish food and appalling management

It’s really gone down hill to the point of questioning how they can charge such prices. 

Genuine review here, I’ve been staying at this hotel for about 8 years. Multiple times throughout the year, it’s my very last. I am going to explore Hotel Victoria or Hatfield or the Premier Inn. 

Wherry has deteriorated quickly. The hotel is extremely dated. The wallpaper falling off walls, bathrooms absolutely reek of sewerage, mould.. Our carpets in the bedrooms have huge holes in them and very much stained beyond the point where it’s just taking the pi**. They need to be replaced for sure. The stairs are similar too. So i’m assuming other rooms are the same. 

Staff have no idea what’s going on. Night porter (London/Essex Accent) told me EV charging through a window he’s seen before, but Luke / sue said this is not true - Not sure why I would of brought it into context if this was not true. 

I paid extra for a dog, but regardless i’m paying more than other customers without a dog, so why should I put up with massive holes in carpets, mould, filthy bathrooms and a terrible upkeep of the hotel. This is a budget hotel right now yet charging £90-£110 a night. I assume there is rooms that allow dogs which are located on the front. If so, these should be cheaper.. Extremely loud, dirty yet they are charged the same as the rest of the hotel plus a pet surcharge… Things really aren’t adding up. 

I believe wherry hotel should definitely have EV charging regardless. 

Breakfast is atrocious. All frozen food. Use to come here when it was decent all you can eat. Fresh good fruit, wide selection of continental. Now it’s not worth waking up for. Head to the Old Diary opposite. 

Fruit was past its best life, the breakfast bap was definitely frozen sausages and pure fat bacon. 

Croissants were packaged and not even fresh/ freshly baked. Surely you can see that this hotel and service is on a very very downward spiral, which is going down rather quickly. 

Rats outside the front of the hotel where the bins are next to the kitchen doors. I put some dog poop in their bins. Which are totally overflowing, have sea-gulls breaking bags open, and a lot of food on the floor on the carpark. I suspect that no doubt if that’s how it is always, they definitely attract rats. 

And not frequently topped up or refreshed (eggs were cremated). 

Sue is extremely rude and seems to have an attitude. Restaurant staff were great as usual.

Mattresses feel like they have zero springs. Nice duvets however. Water pressure is very bad with showers also. 

Overall. I won’t return and wouldn’t recommend, Wherry really need to invest in this hotel and make it value for money. Currently it’s poor. 

Going off other reviews people are saying it’s good budget hotel. This is not budget prices, premier inn/ Travel-lodge are charging £35-£60 a night which comes with a sleep guarantee. 

I’ll say it again. There is so much better and value for money. Hopefully if this hotel
reads this review and gets back into
gear, as it was once upon a time a nice hotel. Mr and my partner are ever so shocked of how bad it’s got. I’ve been coming here for 8+ years since I left the town for University and visiting family 2/3 times a year…



Very genuine review of an ex good hotel that’s rapidly gone down hill.

Great hotel in a fabulous location on the water.  Rooms good size and clean. When arrived greeted very well and very informative. The staff are all absolutely amazing.  So friendly nothing to much trouble.  Very knowledgeable about gluten free. Even got in gluten free  sausages for breakfast. Definitely will return

Lovely friendly hotel

We had 10 rooms, 26 tickets for a meal and a show on the 3rd of March to celebrate my husbands 70th birthday with family and friend.
Wow! What a night.  The show was amazing, the meal and breakfast was excellent and the service absolutely amazing. Sue Dellow and Peter Dellow made our evening perfect.  All the staff were very friendly and helpful.
The rooms were very nice, comfortable and clean.


Fabulous place for a celebration 

Only gave 1 because 0 was not an option. The Wherry has got progressively worse over my last few visits. We used to visit at least once a week, then once a fortnight, then once a month, in the hope it would improve. Now it will to be never again :(
The carvery used to be the best in the area, now it is barely edible. This is such a shame as the hotel itself is beautiful but the food and restaurant are just grim. The veg on carvery is wet and cold, once the roast potatoes tasted like kippers, the gravy like gloop and seating areas dirty. There is a door by the carvery that leads to the kitchen that was open. I glanced in and wish I hadn’t of. It was not very clean or hygienic. When I got to the table I mentioned to my sister that I was not impressed by the standards. She googled the food hygiene rating out of interest. It was only a 3! We barely ate our food as cold & left. Note to self; always check the food hygiene rating first!

Nice hotel and friendly staff but make sure there isn’t an event happening during your stay, we were only told about it when we checked in and after a long drive we decided to chance it rather than try and find somewhere else at short notice 

There was no escaping the noise and it went on until shortly after midnight, it seemed relentless, we definitely will never stay there again 

The hotel is nice and the staff were very accommodating but the noise totally ruined our stay, if you choose this hotel make 100% sure there isn’t an event 

In hindsight we wish we had refused to check in and found somewhere else to stay

A big mistake

Although we are local to Oulton Broad, we enjoy a stay at The Wherry Hotel as often as we can.  If you choose a room with a view across the broad, it is a particular joy to enjoy the spectacular sunset.
We were warmly welcomed by Sue at reception, who is exceptionally friendly and helpful.  All the staff we encountered were warm and friendly.  Our room was superb with a beautiful view.
The breakfast was plentiful and made up of quality ingredients.  We are looking forward to our return already.

A stay between Xmas and new year with the dogs. 

Service was excellent through ought - great breakfast and super bar area. 

Rooms not super luxurious but nicely maintained and comfortable 

We enjoyed the visit and shall return.
