Stayed in room312.  The beds we
Knackered  room was very dated  but clean  we booked in for dinner at 7. Our order went just about right away and we didn’t get food till about 8 we complained and were told they had a big party in who they had to see to first even though they came in later that was from matradee  on plus side the service and food was good as was the breakfast in the morning.     The hotel could do with some TLC

Rugby weekend

Room was ok. Corridors are quite dated. BE WARNED priority for breakfast and meals are given to coach party's. If you sit in the wrong seat you will be told and be glared at.  Would not stay here again.

Ok hotel. You're second class if you're not on a coach trip

Tired dull noisy kitchen are central so everyone gets sleepless nights. Poor in just about every aspect. Spare your disappointment don't go.

Waverly Castle hotel

We came with our 2 friends, nice hotel, beds very comfy, clean rooms, 2 nights entertainment, we enjoyed both nights, food was amazing, breakfast lots of help yourself food, fruit, cereal, porridge, yogurt, plenty of hot food, as much as you want, evening meal was brilliant, 3 courses, 4 choices to choose, starter, meal and pudding, the food was very well presented and tasted lovely, we left the hotel on day of departure at 10am drove few miles, the manager of the hotel rang to say a lady had left her handbag in the room and by 10 13am the manager had met the coach and given the handbag back, fantastic service well done 

Friends week away

Had a decent enough meal as it was paid for by the coach company on our stop over but the extra fries I ordered were so thin and hard not worth £3.95,the breakfast was fabulous as was the comfy room and the bar was great 

Lovely hotel and location 

The outside of the hotel is quite impressive but once inside it is a whole different story.  Old dusty and tired.  Peeling paintwork, old heavy windows quite impossible to open, dirty stained carpet, uncomfortable bed.  Booked for one night on a business trip and was glad it was only one night.  Breakfast was awful.  Cold buffet consisted of cereal and stale croissants.  The hot buffet was even worse.  Grey bacon, tasteless sausages, potato scones which were so hard I doubt anyone could have bitten into them.  A few remnants of scrambled egg left in the dish.  I asked the staff if there were any eggs and I was directed to the scrambled ones.  I asked for poached if possible and this was the highlight of my stay.  Perfectly poached egg!!!!  Staff at check in were pleasant but on check out I was not asked how my stay was.  She barely looked up from her computer.  Dining room staff were unhelpful and far from pleasant.  First and last stay.  Definitely would not recommend.    Except for the poached egg!!!!

Never again!!!!

I have stayed here a number of times recently, working on a project locally and I have had absolutely no hesitation on going back here each time. Yes it feels a bit dated, yes the carpet is worn in places, yes the paintwork is a bit rough in places but I can say the same about some other old hotels I have stayed in (at much higher prices!). The rooms I have stayed in have been warm, a selection of teas and coffees and a kettle that works and comfy beds mean a good night sleep and pleasant stay. Breakfast is buffet style and reasonable with a decent coffee served to table so always fresh. The staff make this place for me. Everyone I have interacted with, from reception, to breakfast waiting staff to evening bar staff has been friendly and welcoming with easy smiles and ever helpful natures. If you enter this hotel with a smile on your face and a cheery hello the staff repay it in spades.

Extremely tired room, (but comfortable bed, with clean bed linen!!!), dirty carpet, paintwork especially window frame poor,  en-suite tiny very very basic. 

On the plus side, it was very quiet, the hotel itself had a good atmosphere and the reception staff... especially the young lady on the early shift, were very helpful.

I wouldn't stay here again.

One star

Stayed as for a wedding nearby. The property is old and a bit dated. But for the price we paid it was more than enough for us. Our room was small (more so the shower was a bit cramped - but the pressure and heat was fine) but we just needed a place to get ready and sleep. Staff were friendly. Breakfast was sufficient. If I had to stay here again I would have no hesitation. 

Nice for the price 

Stayed here for 4 nights half board on a Shearing’s bus holiday to Edinburgh. The hotel is around 40 miles from the city. Checkin was swift and organised for 50+ people all at the same time. The staff where great and had a sense of humour! The hotel is about 150 years old and needs some renovation however it is clean and warm and for what you pay is great value for money. The food was good, Buffet style breakfast with full Scottish and toast machine, fruit and porridge cornflakes etc. unlimited tea and coffee. Evening meal was a little random with bizarre choices of main dishes, but all was good food. Again serving staff where fab!  The bar was well stocked with a good selection of beers and lagers! In all this is a good hotel that is old, Staff are great it’s a credit to the manager. Happy staff happy customers!
