This is a lovely place to stay. Rooms are comfortable and stylishly decorated. The bar and restaurant areas are very tasteful and comfortable and I love that dogs are so welcome. The food was quite good also. However, there was rather a lot of emphasis on hunting poor innocent animals evident in the decor and lots of hunting paraphernalia on display.  If you can ignore this it is great! 

Nice food and ambience

A lovely welcoming hotel . We stayed in a large 2nd floor room which was so comfortable. The food was lovely and the staff super efficient .
There was an issue with one of our rooms and the owner and general manager could not have been more helpful .
Highly recommend this hotel as a perfect place to stay on Exmoor.

Great stay 

I stayed here while doing The Two Moors Way. I arrived with my dog, wet and tired, and was immediately greeted by the cheery Front of House Manager who let me check in early. He was so kind and helpful throughout my stay, with accommodating my gluten, meat and dairy free requests, drying my boots and making sure everything else was okay. My dog was given a cosy bed and made welcome in the bar and restaurant. The room was comfortable and the curtains were nice and thick for a good nights sleep. My only suggestions would be:
To include more gluten free and vegan food options - I appreciate there’s a heavy meat focus here , but I overheard another customer near me who was vegan and also  struggling to choose something. A risotto was made for me but choices are always nice.
To have more alternative milks as many people with coeliac disease can’t have oat milk.

Great Service for Dogs and Guests

This gem of a place is one not to be missed.  Excellent food with the freshest flavours.  We met Scott the chef who spoke with such enthusiasm about his marvellous cooking.  Service was wonderful from the lovely Fem.  Stunning warm Inn too with beautiful log burner and classy but not austere decor.  Would highly recommend if you are after a traditional pub style experience with food that is a cut above normal using local fresh ingredients

I am one of a group of 8 friends walking the Two Moors Way.  We stayed at the Exmoor Forest Inn in Simonsmith one night, Sept 21, 2023.

Our stay was delightful in every respect.  One of our group thought the food was the best of the entire 14 day walking holiday.  Most of us arrived a bit early for check-in and we were accommodated nevertheless.  The "living room" adjacent to the dinning area was well appointed and much appreciated during the afternoon for conversation and a game we had brought along.  The staff were exceedingly friendly and gracious, texting and emailing prior to our arrival that we were welcome to arrive early.

I highly recommend the Exmoor, and I am confident my seven companions feel the same.



Exmoor Inn much appreciaated

I booked a room there , the mid-winter break, as a present for my sister and brother-in-law last November.  I really wanted them to have a lovely and well deserved mini-holiday. I could not have been happier with the communication beforehand with the hotel about this, and with the way my sister and bro-in-law were looked after. The hotel staff were so thoughtful and considerate. And my sister said they had the best break they had had for years! Wonderful comfy room and delicious meals.

Fantastically well looked after

Turned up 10 minutes after the kitchen theoretically shut at lunchtime and were still welcomed with a ‘yes you can have lunch’. Excellent rillettes and a lot of tea and the extra hour on the walk faded away! Very comfortable, great staff. The sort of place you’d be pleased to walk into if you were staying there. 

Delightful people who say ‘yes’ not ‘sorry you’re too late’

If your looking for a beautiful rural pub in a fantastic location with really great tasting food and drink then you won’t find much better than this. The really friendly staff and well appointed individual rooms just complement it further , we would highly recommend and will definitely be back ourselves , thank you to everyone that made it special.

One of the best

We stayed and ate here for a few days and liked it very much.

The staff were all helpful and keen both in the restaurant and for the accommodation.

Our room was on the top floor, there are some steep stairs to get there but the room and facilities were all good.

Both breakfast and dinner were of a high standard (although the chef clearly likes things well salted!) with interesting and tasty options

Individual and welcoming

Stayed in garden of pub for one night doing  part of  2MoorsWay. The Forest Inn is more restaurant than pub, this is reflected in food ( excellent ) restaurant standards and prices. Lovely inside and relaxing. 

Camping is in a  small area at rear with a disproportionate plush toilet and shower building, however as they are  both together only one user at a time. Luckily we only ones to use that night.

My moan would be  price not hikers rates and the garden would not be family camping suitable either no pan/ dishwash area

Great as on two moors way stop over, there are rooms.    There was a fridge and plug for camping.  Staff friendly and helpful.  Excellent place to stop but over priced for hikers tents.
