Leafy Suburban Bed & Breakfast

We were looking for a clean room with B&B close to the Northwood HQ to attend an event there and this worked well for us. 
After booking the room I had a call from the owner who explained what time we could check in and answered any questions I had about picking up the key, etc. 
The bedroom was immaculate, as were all the rooms we saw in the house, including the kitchen and bathrooms (shared).
The bedroom overlooked the rear garden, was very quiet and had tea/coffee facilities in the room. The bed was very comfortable and there was plenty of space to hang our clothes up in the wardrobe. 
It has a home-from-home feel to it. We had no issues taking our shoes off and placing them in a shoe rack in the hallway upon arrival as the house is carpeted.    
In the morning we enjoyed a full English breakfast cooked by a pleasant house keeper.
Due to the location of the Northwood HQ nearby this worked well for us attending an event there. The house is in a residential area. Parking is outside in the street but this is unrestricted.
The owner is very helpful and friendly.

Clean room in a house, shared bathrooms, full English breakfast

House is very clean, owner is friendly. However soon as you get in your told no shoes. The rooms have no ensuite. You are told there is tea and coffee facilities in the room, unfortunately only one cup. Tried to find someone in the evening when we realised, but no one around (that was a deal breaker for my wife). Breakfast did not start till 8am so I can't comment on that, we were told 7am at one point. Rooms have WiFi and sky box with all channels, however there was a pin to get to watch certain things, however managed to work it out myself. Room was comfortable but small. My main issue is I didn't feel at home and felt like we were intruding. Otherwise nice place and friendly owner

Nice house but doesn't feel like a homely B&B

I had the misfortune to use this B&B some weeks ago, except that, I am not quite sure you can even call it a B&B. Instead, it is simply a chap, looking to make some extra money on his big house – whilst still wanting to retain the benefits that come with not opening your house to strangers, and paying ones at that.
 
So, here is my warning to anyone interested in renting a room in Leafy Suburban Bed & Breakfast (LSBB). It is in effect a sort of scam that is misleading, and here is why.
 
Do NOT even try and rent this property if…
 
You like B&Bs that are fully transparent in their advertising and you get what you paid for courtesy of your hard earned money
You (and anyone that comes with you) do not want to suffer the indignity and embarrassment of having to take off your shoes upon entry (stuff a private owner may demand of you but, a place, intended for public rental changing you also?). I wonder why this is not stated in the his glitzy ads? Because he knows, if he did, nobody would even look at his so-called B&B
You want a bit of privacy when using the bathroom/toilet. LSBB advertises its nice looking bathroom/toilet on accommodation seeking websites. What they do not tell you is that, you’ll be sharing with several other tenants. In short, you will need to be dressed appropriately and have to peep out into the corridor each time you wish to use it, to ensure nobody else is using it
You like to get what you pay for and get the little things that typically come with a B&B (such as cups or glasses perhaps, coffee making facilities perhaps, etc.). You do not get anything with LSBB – just a small room and nowt else!
You want to be close to civilisation such as public transport and some shops maybe. This place is in the middle of nowhere and to even find the place, you had better have a degree in place finding. There are no signs on the long and badly lit road it is on.
The lovely looking and spacious kitchen and garden (advertised) are nice, no doubt. However, they are largely for show. During my unfortunate stay there, at NO point was I invited to use either, and although I did not use the kitchen, I have since read on here that, its more one of, it’s all DIY (Do-it-Yourself) in this poor excuse for a B&B.
 
Do not use this property also, if you want to be able to talk (at normal sound levels) in your room whether on the phone or to your companion. We were asked to keep our voice down, which I thought was rather rude. The prices he charges are even MORE than many quality hotels that offer 10 times better service. For one search, he was charging £64 a night whilst many hotels were either the same or less.
 
In short, this is an owner wanting to have his cake and eat it. Someone wanting the best of both worlds. Charge the peasants to have a room in his sumptuous house and keep their money whilst, on the other hand, wanting all the benefits of a private house owner with NO visiting strangers. He needs to understand what letting out and charging for your rooms means in the real world. People pay you money to have the freedom of the room and amenities on offer (as advertised) – as long as they respect it naturally.  
 
In short, he should be shut down by trading standards!

PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

This is a good b and b, with and in-house maid. The rooms are good but no en suite, so sometimes tricky if all the rooms are full. Deep bath and big shower. Lovely breakfast room and quiet neighbourhood. Good for a day or two. Some distance to the tube.

We were greeted by a housekeeper at 2.00pm. We paid £70 for a delux double room with breakfast but were shown to a small double with a 3/4 size bed. The room still hadn't been made up. There was one upstairs bathroom which was shared by 7 people hence a queue in the morning.
The following morning we were sent a text by the owner to say that no Cooked breakfast was available. There was no explanation. Although disappointing was ok as he said to help ourselves to bread and cereals. Unfortunately there was no milk available so we couldn't even make a drink. When I messaged the owner about the room and the breakfast he was unapologetic. All he needed to do was go out and buy some milk!!! Very disappointed with the room and breakfast which was a shame as the house was clean and tidy.

Unwelcoming and unfriendly

What a gem this place is, stayed there last night and was made to be very comfortable. Checked in at 12:30pm yesterday, took all of 2mins. I had a fabulous nights sleep, I was unsure about the shared bathroom but believe me it was not an issue as it was the next room and fabulously clean/modern.

The room itself has Sky TV and was extremely clean, well presented. Breakfast was great and I was made to feel very welcome by Owner Raj and Manager Christina. A real credit to the both of them and I would definitely recommend to all.

Fantastic B&B

I feel much better now after reading initial impressions from a previous reviewer called Connridge! I hadn’t read any TripAdvisor reviews prior to making this booking, so I did wonder if my own experience was unique? Clearly not!

The location was easy enough to find in a car with a navigation app, but quite distant from the nearest tube, which was around a 20-minute walk. I don’t think it would be suitable unless you had a car. There was no sign outside the property to even indicate that it was a business, so it would’ve been very easy for somebody to knock on the wrong door. Based on the fact that the property is in a very prosperous part of Northwood, I’m going to assume that the neighbours wouldn’t approve.

I’d literally just got my foot in the door, when I was immediately and quite abruptly informed by the woman that it was 'house policy' to remove my shoes! Not even a quick greeting! I might just add that this was on a dry, sunny day and the floor inside was wooden. I’d just about regained my composure, to politely inform her, through gritted teeth, that I hadn’t got my bag yet because I’d wanted to make sure I had the correct place. She then told me, quick as a flash, that I couldn't park on the driveway but on the street. I stepped back from the door to pull it open and showed the lady that I’d already assumed that and parked on the street. Whilst the English language wasn’t her mother tongue, she was perfectly fluent, so I’d just say that she had a poor attitude to service personally. 

This is the point at which you should say thanks but no thanks, ask for your money back and leave the property. The only reason why I didn’t was that I’d purchased it through the company and it was only for one night. 

I was then shown the bedroom and asked about breakfast, but by now, I was no longer interested in being in this place anymore than was absolutely necessary. To be fair, I did see a man, who I assume was the actual house owner and he was quite polite. If I’d seen him in the morning, I’d have had a word with him about the woman. I couldn’t work out whether she was the housekeeper or his partner.

The room itself was immaculate, equipped with satellite TV and even Netflix. The Wi-Fi was good. However, the toilet/bathrooms, of which there were two, were shared with everybody else in the house, including the residents it appears. I hadn’t read the small print of my booking about this. I’m sure that this is acceptable for some but not for me. This is why, whilst technically it was a bed, with breakfast, I’d consider it more like an AirBnB house share. I believe that the garden and other main rooms were ‘off limits’ to guests and that you effectively had just your room .  

I had the same feeling, with this place, where you go into somebody's house and they still have the plastic on the couch and you're not allowed to touch, never mind move the coaster on the small table next to it!

The same lady was much more polite in the morning and asked me if I was sure that I didn’t want breakfast or even a coffee, but I replied ‘no thank you’ and just wanted to get the hell out.

I’m sorry, but the damage had already been done the evening before, as far as I was concerned and first impressions and displayed attitude to service, are what counts. 

I couldn’t recommend this place to anybody, unless it was a desperate last minute booking, like mine was because my main hotels of choice in Watford were all booked up. I think the lack of reviews for the time they’ve been operating speaks volumes.

House share, rather than genuine B&B - more like AirBnB

We arrived to be met by a lady in a coat who promptly asked my husband and I along with my friend and her husband to remove our shoes in the hall way ! 
There was no welcome to what I can only describe as a students shared house . We felt very uncomfortable sharing a bathroom with everyone . The tv did not work in my friends room and the floorboards were so loose , when u walked across them the wardrobe doors banged !
The whole experience was so disappointing and would never return or recommend this house share . I wouldn’t call it a B and B , there wasn’t even a board outside to advertise this!
We were shown to our rooms in which even the bed linen was ironed and looked like something my Nan would have on her bed , oh and the kettle was in the wardrobe so it meant you would have to boil the kettle while it sat on the carpet !!!! Amazing health and safety there !
We we stayed 15 minutes, just enough time to book a room at a premiere inn!
Definitely don’t recommend!

Horrendous

Booked this B&B for a weekend stay 14-16th September for birthday celebration. Initially, upon arrival this is extremely difficult to find. There is no signs from the road, or even on the house to indicate that this is a B&B. You quite literally just need to look for house numbers and hope you don't walk up someone else's drive!!
Upon entering the hotel we were greeted warmly by the housekeeper, who then asked us to remove our shoes. Even though the downstairs of this property is wood flooring, apparently you still aren't allowed to wear them.
Our room, I must say, was beautiful. Large and clean with a very comfortable bed. There was a TV but this was not working despite us and the housekeeper trying. She claimed that the sky was off until an engineer came the following week. And even though it was a smart TV, it wouldn't connect to the Wi-Fi. The other disadvantage was that there was no chair, so once you were in the room there was no place to sit other than the bed. 
After a long days travel we wanted to relax in front of the TV. As stated the one in the room didn't work! There is a beautiful sitting room advertised on all websites for this B&B, but apparently this is for family use only. No guests are allowed. 
The shared bathroom was not an issue, it was immaculately clean. But be prepared that the family and the housekeeper do use the same bathroom as you. 
Breakfast... that was odd. We were initially told upon arrival that breakfast was served between 7am and 9am. But then we were specifically asked for a time that we wished to attend. After a long days travel we wanted to sleep and wake up to go to breakfast between those times, not specifically indicate a time. We thought that breakfast between 7 and 9 would make them at our leisure, not the other way around!!! 
Well, we arrived in the kitchen at the allocated time to find the owner present only. When I asked for a cup of coffee he indicated to the jars on the counter and told me I could make my own. He then vanished. After spending 10 minutes raking the endless cupboards I eventually had a cup of coffee and sat at the shared table. One other lady, we have no idea who she was, then started setting the breakfast table, in her pyjamas!! The housekeeper arrived to make breakfast a good fifteen minutes after the time we had agreed.
A full English breakfast was available. There was no offer of cereals or toast, no refill of tea or coffee. 
Breakfast consisted of one slice of bacon, two small sausages, a tablespoon of beans and one slice of toast. Which was fine for me, but certainly not for my partner. There was no offer of further items, such as mushrooms, tomatoes or even further toast!! Let's say that my partner left the table hungry. All the while the staff are wandering around in their pyjamas, drinking coffee and playing on their phones. It made for a very uncomfortable breakfast. 
We were out all day and did not return until late on the night. No staff were present so we were not asked for a time for breakfast. 
Unfortunately, we had a train to catch at 9am, so headed downstairs at 8am. There was nobody downstairs at all. We returned to our room and packed the remainder of our belongings, returning downstairs at 8.30am. There was still nobody present. After spending 10 minutes standing around in the hallway, waiting for someone, we decided that we wouldn't have time for breakfast after waiting so long. Therefore, with nobody around we had no choice but to leave our keys and check out. Between 8 and 8.40 we never saw anyone downstairs to hand our keys over. Very, very disappointing!!
The other issue with this B&B is that if you don't drive, like we chose not to, public transport is a logistical nightmare!! The house is nearly a mile walk from the nearest underground in Northwood. As far as we could determine, there was no bus availability from Northwood to the hotel. And to be fair, there was rarely any staff around in the hotel to ask advice!
So for example, if you are heading to Victoria Train Station (As we were) you have at least a 20 minute walk from the hotel to the station, followed by a further 75 minute ride on the underground. 
To conclude, this would be an amazing B&B with just a few small changes in certain areas. But seriously, the attitude to breakfast really needs to be changed. This was a game changer for us, it was so uncomfortable sitting at the table having people make breakfast in their pyjamas! And I say breakfast lightly, because the offerings were poor. 
Poor check out services!! Really, if someone had been around on the morning we were to checkout, I would have really asked for some money back for a shoddy stay!!
It really is just like you are renting a room in someone else's house, and that it the most uncomfortable part! It doesn't even feel like a B&B. I felt from start to finish that I was intruding into someone else's home, and I would not return again!

Very Strange....

This B&B is maybe more Air BnB. Initially, I was quite taken aback by a room that seemed more like living in a shared house than a paying guest. My room was supposed to be en-suite, but since the shower wasn't working I had to make do with the bathroom down the hall. No radio or TV although the wi-fi thankfully, was functioning.
Breakfast arrangements a little hit and miss; if there was a veggie option, as one reviewer has noted, it certainly wasn't on offer for my visit. And otherwise, I had to search the kitchen cupboards for even a tea bag. 
For the price it was adequate but be prepared for the fact that you're basically renting a room in some guy's house -- with all his clothes crammed into wardrobes and cupboards into the bargain.
