We only called in for a couple of beers at lunchtime, but had very nice service and nicely kept pint of Doom Bar. Friendly atmosphere and great music choice for us - Seventies soul/ motown etc ( not loud just nice! )

Nice Pint at Lunchtime!

Worst night’s sleep I’ve ever had.  Right on the railway so no way to open the windows and still hear yourself think.  Too hot.  Very uncomfortable bed and bedding - pillow very thin.  Got up early and left to go home for some sleep.  Didn’t stay for breakfast.  Cost £120!

Don’t book

Booked 3 rooms here, night before our daughters wedding, total cost £400.
There were so many faults with this place. It can only be described as a pub with rooms above it, or Faulty Towers.
Rooms were dirty, dated and bathrooms were awful! Stained sheets, mismatched towels and bedding. Mattresses hard and bowed in middle. Noisy floor and paper thin walls. 
Serious fire rush concern due to main fire exit door being proped open all the time. Compromise fire separation between pub and accommodation. 
Breakfast was pretty poor and over priced. Not enough food and service, well what service? 
Others members of our party had booked for two nights and the hotel had lost the booking. And although accommodated at extra cost for one night wouldn’t honour booking for the second night. 
In total as a family we had booked 9 rooms. No one took a positive experience from this. I would not recommend this place to anyone. 
Thankfully didn’t detract from a wonderful wedding.  

Faulty Towers

Avoid this hotel, absolutely filthy! Even paid for early check in. Toilet not cleaned, stains on sheets, hairs on sheets and shower was dirty.
Complained to booking.com who were not interested. Totally unacceptable, they weren’t interested and neither was the hotel.

Avoid!

Our stay here was adequate. We stayed here as it was close to the railway station. We hadn't realised how close to the railway though. The trains were literally going past only metres away. 
The room was a nice size with an ensuite and massive painting of Pan. I found the bed I had to be pretty lumpy. As it was very warm and there was no fan or a/c we had to have the window open. As already mentioned, this hotel is very close to the railway so you hear trains a lot. Pangbourne has a high percentage of traffic running through it and of this hotel is also a pub. The walls are very thin as well so it is very noisy. 
The bathroom was OK, relatively clean but the toilet lid refused to stay up so was very uncomfortable to use. There was a decent sized bath but not a proper shower. 
This hotel was OK, I've certainly stayed in worse but really not a comfortable stay. Certainly not worth the money.

Adequate hotel

Paid £109 for a double room on a Saturday night. On arrival it was impossible to park. There are only a dozen parking spaces at best.
The room was small, cramped, and stuffy. The furniture all looked to have been there since the 1960s. There weren't enough electrical sockets and those that there were looked as though they would fail and electrical inspection. 
On closer inspection the carpets were filthy, so was the only chair in the room which we refused to sit in. The bathroom was also very dated with a chipped bath, cracked basin and dirty floor. There was no window and the extractor fan was broken, there was also no water pressure. The shower was in the eaves and it was not possible to stand up in it. The doors were all filthy - hadn't been wiped done in months. The public toilets in the Hotel were disgusting. The bed linen appeared to be clean and the bed was reasonably comfortable. We didn't stay for breakfast.

Vastly overpriced for a tatty, dirty hotel!

One of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at.

Me and my partner stayed for a night over the weekend for a friends birthday. When we arrived we were told me didn’t have a booking, we booked through a third party. After being on the phone to the third party for almost an hour and a half the lovely manager took everything under her own control for us. She even went as far as to contact the third party for us and sort out their mess. We can not thank you enough for being so kind. You saved our weekend! The service was beyond expectation and you really went out of your way to help us. We had a lovely nights sleep after an evening out bike riding and a couple of drinks.

Excellent

I was having some building work done on the house so decided to stay in The George Hotel for a couple of nights. My room was clean and tidy and well presented. The Full English Breakfast was spot on and staff were very friendly and attentive. The rates were very reasonable, so I'll be back soon. 

T Whitchurch

I have stayed at this hotel a few times, the location in Pangbourne is great, not far from the station. Service is great and the staff are lovely, the food menu is wide ranging and the food itself is always great, plus the drinks range is good (very decent selection of wines available). I always try to go for a room with a bath, nice and relaxing after a long week at work. Due to the location there are many walks available and it doesn't take long to reach the countryside, plus the River Thames nearby is always great to walk alongside, lovely views of the surrounding countryside.

I've never had a bad experience at this hotel, the only previous issue was down to Expedia and their 3rd party I.T. company, which screwed up a lot of bookings for many hotels last December - NO fault can be pinned onto the George Hotel, they also had issues with Expedia. I have finally received a refund from Expedia, but I will always book through Booking.com in future.

I will certainly be returning for further visits to the George Hotel and would gladly recommend this place to friends and family.

Lovely Hotel & Pub - Great Location

Amazing vibe here at The George.
Dee and Jo-Jo are always happy to interact and get involved with their customers as are the staff. 
Great service and fantastic food!
The place to go if you like live music and a spot to escape the sofa to watch the football
