Avoid this hotel at all costs! 

Rooms are very shabby, not at all like how they are advertised. They are dirty, unclean sheets hair in sinks, shampoo all over tiles, rubbish still left in bins. When you speak to reception, I’ve never met someone so unprofessional. The Asian lady was so abrupt, she also had a really bad odour issue which explains her standard in the room cleaning. Also check your receipt as they over charge for drinks, we ordered a bottle of wine for £14 was charged £22, and when we bought this to their attention another rude abrupt reply with no offer of refund. I will never stay again and would dearly urge anyone else not to use this hotel or pub.

Sunday Lunch
The Elms is our favourite place to eat ither Sunday lunch or meal at tea time also best Indian meal in Rithuls restaurant  .The staff are always polite and welcoming food is always hot we would recommend The Elms to anyone…Val+ Walt Childe

Good place to visit with family 

Had a fantastic time at The Elms hotel. The owner Praveen and her staff were very friendly, we had an Indian meal in there Indian restaurant which was very tasty.
The room was spacious, the bed was extremely comfortable.
We are definitely going back.

Fantastic hotel 

We had a good stay at the Elms Hotel , staffs were very attentive and helpful. 
Food was very good . Very authentic Indian food and we also tried the Pub food which was excellent too . We will stay here again on our next visit to Retford . 
There is a big car park and free for the guest.

Had a fantastic stay

We stayed two nights at The Elms, had dinner at the hotel the first night, and ate out the second night.

Starting on a positive, the food in the restaurant was perfect. Delicious and served hot.

Unfortunately, I can't be as positive about the accommodation. We were in the stable block, on the first floor. I have never heard such noisy stairs and corridors to access the room. Then again in the room, which to be fair, although small, was comfortable - but the floorboards were the noisiest I've ever experienced. This is really an issue, and needs to be sorted. I feel sorry for anyone in the room below us, having to listen to that racket every time we moved around the room. We were disturbed by other guests arriving quite late - not because they were be loud, but because of the noise of them walking up the stairs and along the corridor to their room.

We stayed when the weather was very hot, and although the room did provide a fan, which was thoughtful, it was a small desk fan, and completely inadequate for the room.

The plug in the bathroom sink had lost its rubber seal, so you couldn't have a wash/shave with a bowlful of water.

The pillows were lumpy, and very uncomfortable to sleep on.

The Elms is a nice hotel, and the staff were very pleasant. But I would not be able to recommend anyone staying there, at least until the maintenance issues are dealt with.

Good food, but accommodation needs swift attention

Best Indian Food, fabulous, value for money.  Accommodation was very comfortable. Party on Saturday was well organised, again food great.  The owners were very attentive and had a work ethic which should be envied by others.  FAB weekend, will definitely stay again.  Thank You.

Great Place to Stay, Food Fabulous, Highly Recommended

Booked a table for a bar meal for 8pm. Enjoyed the meal & was ready to have a few beers. Managed to order 1 round of drinks before they was ringing the last order bell at 9:15pm. Good job we had beers at home to rely on.

A fantastic stay with friendly staff and excellent food.
 A lovely clean and spacious room.
Will definitely stay again for sure. The restaurant was beautifully decorated as was the rest of the hotel.

Absolutely love this place, always greeted by lovely warm caring helpful staff. Beautiful location, impressive building and grounds to enjoy a few drinks or the amazing food. We have had some delicious meals here with no faults whatsoever, we will definitely be returning. Thanks to the Elms team for all your hard work...
