I recently spent a week at the Moss Lodge. I am an American novelist and went to Rochdale to do research for a new book. I chose the Lodge as it looked like a proper English Manor House, which it is, and I wanted that atmosphere. I was greeted at the door by Samantha with an offer of tea in the cozy parlor while my suitcases were whisked up to a beautiful luxurious room, outfitted with all the comforts of home. When I asked for "streaky-bacon" for my breakfasts, it was there the each morning along with a lovely fruit bowl, brown toast, and a veggie sausage. I only had to ask once. Paula on the weekends cared for me like an older sister, Olga was a gem, and everyone there made me feel like I was in my home away from home. In some ways, it was like coming back home to discover my family's home.  It's touted as a business hotel, and its convenience to the city, public transport, and dining I could see why. I had breakfast each morning, and a wonderful dinner...all reasonably priced. I hope to one day return, and of course, if I do, this will be my home.

Big thankyou to Pauline for ensuring our wedding ran smoothly and looked after us so well. The venue was perfect for us small and intimitate. The staff worked so hard throughout the day which was noted by all our guests. Special thanks to Samantha, Emma and Marilyn. We had a fabulous day which we will never forget. Alison and Dean.

We stayed at Moss Lodge for my sister’s wedding. From the very outset we were made extremely welcome. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who made sure we were comfortable and at home. Everything ran like clockwork. The room was spotless and the food great. Special thanks to Pauline and Emma for looking after us so well. Highly recommended. 

Super stay

Stayed there often as I had a business based in Littleborough nearby. Standard of accommodation - excellent, standard of food - first class, staff - really efficient and friendly. This is a place where nothing is too much trouble. As a small independent hotel this place is world class.

The best hotel for miles around

My husband booked us 2 nights here as a birthday treat for me to relax and do nothing and I have to say what a great place to chill out and do nothing!

Beautiful room, very clean and tidy with period features. Excellent jacuzzi bath, really relaxing.

Our host was so friendly and welcoming, we really felt at home. Superb breakfast too, thoroughly recommended!

A brilliant stay, and we'll be back again and will recommend to friends.

Birthday Weekend

Booked this for one of my bosses.  He said the staff were friendly and welcoming.  The place was clean and the food fantastic.  A good quiet hotel.  He went to the bar and placed his order and the waitress called him through when his food was ready.

Fantastic hotel and service

Just stayed the one night on business. Lovely warm welcome when I arrived. Cosy, very clean room with all required amenities and nice touches such as fresh coffee bags, fresh milk in the fridge, bottled water and good quality toiletries. Lovely breakfast and would stay again.

Cosy and good value for money

I have reviewed this in the past, and just had to again, the Moss Lodge is great, it is certainly different in the way you are welcomed and organised. It is fantastic, I honestly cant speak highly enough of this place, my only disappointment is that I am not in the area enough to be a regular.

A stay that is memorable

We stayed here for one night as we were attending a wedding. 

This is a really nice place to stay. It is a independent, traditional hotel that has wonderfully comfy beds in very clean and well laid out rooms. 

The service was excellent. Kind, attentive and witty. Not over familiar, but friendly and professional. 

Breakfast was cooked to order and was proper food. Lovely bacon, well cooked mushrooms and tomatoes. 

If you want a sanitised, soulless chain hotel then look elsewhere. If you want a traditional, well-kept and well-run place, then stay here. 

Would recommend wholeheartedly.

I would not recommend Moss Lodge for a wedding venue. Despite the meal for our wedding breakfast being nice, we felt like most of our requests were always too much trouble and things that were agreed were not carried out on the day. For example, prior to the day, I telephoned Samantha to arranged a sandwich to be made for my photographer however,  when my photographer asked for the sandwich she was told they had no idea! My sister (who is a vegetarian) and I had a meeting with Pauline and was advised that cheese on toast was to be offered to vegetarian guests,  yet not a single cheese toastie was made on the night. The catering I picked for my non vegetarian evening guests was hot pork and stuffing barms. I was hugely disappointed, when I had tasted this, to find the pork was extremely dry, no butter, no stuffing and stale bread. The cost  of this was £8.50 per barm! I later asked other guests who reported the same review as myself. One guest was purchasing two Bacardi and cokes which consisted of two optic measures of Bacardi and only one can of coke, when my guest came to pay she was actually charged for two cans of coke despite only one being used. My guests were told to vacate the room because they needed to hoover up as they had other guests staying, this came across quite rude as my wedding party were day guests. I believe from experience that this is the worst company to deal with leading up to the wedding and boasting to be an excellent hospitality establishment they were far from hospitable. 
We actually toyed with the idea of losing our deposit and going elsewhere but thought we would give the benefit of the doubt when we came across the first few hurdles.
As a hotel my guests that stayed over couldn't fault them, we initially wanted our children to stay but although we were paying over £100 for a room they wanted extra per child to put them on a camp bed! I asked them to waiver this charge due to having our wedding reception there and also was going to book out most of the rooms but we was told no. Pauline was lovely and had a smile all night and couldn't not do enough but unfortunately the same couldn’t be said for Samantha who's attitude came across as very unhelpful and quite frankly awkward, rude and miserable. I did not state my concerns on the night as I felt upset and did not want to challenge them as I felt I was fighting a losing battle.
