Where can i start?Firstly the positives.Bed was comfy,bathroom was clean.Sadly it goes downhill from here.The headboards were badly stained,we didn't want to put our heads on them.The single bed had a nasty stain on it.There were lots of cobwebs housing multiple spiders.The tv was pixelated due to a faulty cable which we reported only to be told 'well,it was working at the weekend.'The chair was old and tatty with worn patches.My husband discovered an empty pepsi bottle behind the bedside table leading us to think the room wasn't cleaned.Even though our booking was for 3 people there was only enough towels for 2.The main issue is that you can't get ANY food here as the kitchen has been closed since last December,even though the signs outside advertise good tasty food and a sunday roast carvery.We were meant to stay another night but couldn't face it so just left.Owner was nowhere to be seen so we left our keys with the cleaner and left.Avoid this place which is nowhere near a 4* establishment!

Stayed just for one night with a good friend. Room was fine and well worth the price we paid. Coffee/tea, biscuits. We had a bit of a problem with noisy guests next door but was quickly sorted out. Breakfast was really fabulous. Best I’ve had in a long time. Recommend for short stay.

Reasonably priced clean hotel, fab breakfast!

Very dissapointed, breakfast not included, tvs are not smart, so couldnt not get netflix, i have used this b and b for years for work. Such a shame. Kitchen not open. Gutted. Room nice enough, but would expect brealfast to be included.

We really loved it here. It has a very comfortable atmosphere. We forgot our charger and the woman (G?) lent us one. She also gave us some suggestions of what to do in the area. She was very kind and helpful. At night we had one meal here and it was so good.

Comfortable room and a good atmosphere

Just back from a two night stay at the lodge. A friend and myself flew over from the Isle of Man to watch a game at Old Trafford, and looked the perfect location  for our stay, as we wanted to have a night out in Sale also.

Have to say ...a thoroughly great stay! Rooms spotless, staff really friendly and location was perfect for access to trains/town. We sat in the bar both evenings..really nice atmosphere,  good drinks at a good price.
Will definitely be staying there again when we're next over.

Two night stay.

Booked direct with the hotel  website for two nights. Superior Double Room. That was at £75 per night from memory ( maybe it was 77.50) but with a reduction to £60 if booked now , which I did. ( Breakfast is additional) I received an invoice via email but must admit to not taking much notice of it. When booking in and paying for the room it was £155 for the two night (£77.50 per night ) I have admit I forgot the price I thought I booked it for but later on looking at their website I remembered that if should have been £60 as this was still being offered on their website for rooms. My fault I guess for not checking. 

So onto our stay. Easy access, plenty free car parking.  Friendly welcome , busy little bar. Our room was room one. Rear of the building. As soon as we entered the room it smelled of damp. Like wet plaster. Their website states there had been refurbishment but our room was dated and tired. My wife also found some cobwebs one of which was around a wall light and also had a dead Daddy long legs within it. It was a dusty cobweb so not a recent thing.
 
We were in a hurry to go straight out so did not mention anything until after breakfast. I paid for a full english and my just the continental. The continental was poor in that there was only fruit juice and cereal on the table. However, the Manageress/landlady was very pleasant and asked my wife if she would like something warm like egg and toast. so she ordered poached egg on toast. My breakfast seemed to be cooked to order as it was piping hot and fresh. So no complaints at all over that. However, we took the opportunity to mention about the smell in the room and the cobweb insect.  She said ; regarding the smell; "not again, we had the roof fixed and so it sounds like we will have to get it sorted again." ( Looking at the damage and stains around the ceiling coving and bathroom ceiling it looks like an old problem ) Apologised about the cobweb and would speak to someone about it. On return to the room later in the day, the window was open , the room smell had improved slightly as disinfectant on sprays had been used. The said cobweb and insect removed but a couple other webs remained.
 
I found the staff friendly enough and obliging. We did not eat an evening meal but it seemed to be popular. We did have a drink with our friends who live close by who had not been in for years. They said they would probably call in a agin for  quiet drink. 

Dated tired room with dampness but friendly staff. Nice bar etc. 

I was looking for a restaurant that could cater for a group of 20 for Sunday Lunch and it was suggested I try the Esdkale Lodge. There was absolutely no problem with them catering for this many people. The chef was brilliant and was happy to provide a tailored meal for my elderly father who is coelic (can't eat gluten). The staff were all really friendly and attentive, checking how long we'd like between courses and so on. Food was spot on too.

Excellent food and great service

Room is fine bit dated, but clean enough. Nice shower and toilet. Food is nice, and hot. I would recommend a hairdryer in the room, but apart from that a good stopover for the Airport. Would definitely use again.

Nice little Hotel

We stayed here due to easy access to Manchester airport.
We were very well looked after
Food - excellent - everything is cooked from fresh and the chef will happily accommodate all dietary requirements
Wine - good quality and choice
Double room - small however very clean and well equipped:
- hand wash and lotion
- ample towels
- tissues
- tea/coffee with biscuits
- cotton wool in bathroom
- dressing table
- plenty of power sockets
- bathroom recently refurbished to high standard

I highly recommend this hotel - lovely hosts and good value for money
