Having experienced afternoon tea with her partner previously, & thoroughly enjoyed it, our daughter invited my wife & I to this wonderfully isolated hotel. The first & only problem was that there was no record of her booking, in spite of her having an email confirming the reservation. OK - these things happen. However, we were made to feel very uncomfortable by the senior member of staff on duty , & at no point was an apology offered. I was fearing the worst, but thankfully our unexpected arrival was overcome & the younger staff were very welcoming & accommodating. 
We did get an apology during the tea, but I felt this was “too little too late”.
The afternoon tea itself was excellent, but one point for consideration. For a hotel of this quality, wouldn’t loose leaf tea be preferable to tea bags?
Probably more important to my wife & I, the initial welcome didn’t  spoil our daughter’s present to us.

Nearly an excellent afternoon tea.

We had a lovely overnight stay for my husband's 80th birthday and were made to feel special. Staff very welcoming, friendly and helpful. We were upgraded and woke to  see the sunrise over the river Ouse. Location wonderful if you want a quiet get away from it all break.  Haven't given full marks as some maintenance is needed around the windows and unfortunately I found my meal too salty, I did mention this and felt my comments were taken seriously.  Otherwise everything was lovely and breakfast was good.  Hope to visit again.

Lovely experience.

Three couples went to Saltmarshe Hall 29th and 30th December.  The Hall is amazing and steeped in history which the general manager gave us some information on.
We also got a book with a history on the Hall which was very helpful.
We had lovely rooms.  I stayed in the Howdenshire room which was amazing.
The food was excellent and staff where very helpful.
The reception manager and the general manager were most helpful and attended to all our needs.

Excellent

We had an amazing meal at Saltmarsh with perfectly cooked Scallops, wonderful local lamb and delicious desserts. There were quite a few options on the menu ......... most of which i would have liked to try. The food is out of this world and highly recommended (Michelin star standard in my opinion)). The setting is beautiful and the staff are extremely professional and friendly.  We'll definitely be returning for more visits

Fantastic Night at Saltmarsh Hall

We had our wedding here on Saturday 16th December, arriving on Friday 15th. We were very lucky with the weather, sunset around the venue and the river was just breathtaking!

We had a couple of issues, one whereby two of our guests had to move rooms late on Friday night due to the toilet not flushing and on the Saturday morning the cottage did not have hot water, this should have been checked prior to check in, breakfast was nice albeit the baked beans were cold, should be served in a small dish on plate in my opinion.

Anyhow all of that aside the wedding was absolutely perfect. Ashleigh and the team were superb not only on the day but right the way through from when we booked the venue. Ashleigh is very professional but also has a very calm demeaner which instantly put us at ease and gave us confidence that the wedding would go smoothly,

The day itself was pretty stress free, all of what we had planned went ahead without any hiccups. Any questions we had Ashleigh dealt with promptly and kept us informed of what was happening and timescales with the registrars etc. 

We had our ceremony in the Drawing Room and wedding breakfast in the Morning Room. There were some really lovely small touches by the team that just added to the day. The venue was very relaxed and accommodated our wishes from the snow machine, providing changing facilities for our living statue, carefully planning where the soprano lady would be situated to optimise performance, we were at capacity on guest numbers in the drawing room, again Ashleigh came up with a plan to ensure all guests were there along with the harpist and soprano.

When we came out of the ceremony we were immediately met by the team with our drinks and staff were lined up ready with our reception drinks for our guests, James Lomas was playing the piano, we had booked James after seeing him perform at the open day at Saltmarshe Hall in January.

The canapes were delicious, many of our guests commented on these. We had paid extra to give our guests a main menu choice, beef, chicken or seabass, all were fantastic, we could not fault the food or the service, we had also paid extra for a trio of desserts which again didn't disappoint.

The Morning Room looked amazing and the staff turned this around very quickly for the evening do.

We used a number of the venue's recommended suppliers all of which delivered at a high standard.

The next morning all of our things had been packed up overnight by the night porter and were waiting for us in the entrance hall.

The bedrooms at this venue are beautiful, in keeping with the age of the house but with a modern twist and beautiful bathrooms.

We had the absolute perfect magical wedding day! A big "Thank You" to Ashleigh and the Saltmarshe Hall team for making this so special!

Beautiful Wedding Venue

Spent a night here recently in The YORKSHIRE suite , we have stayed before and absolutely loved it . Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and our room was so elegant clean and comfortable . We had Sunday lunch and couldn’t fault it (and my partner is a chef ) will be back again soon !! Thank your Saltmarshe

Me and my partner stayed in the Howdenshire Suite and I just have to compliment the decor and the size of the bed! And to add nothing was too much trouble for the staff, lovely friendly faces always! Would return again!

Gorgeous Evening Stay

Service & attitude from one member of the breakfast staff this week was appalling. I ordered a cuppa of tea just prior to breakfast being served at 7:30am & you’d think I’d asked the earth to stop spinning. Her response & tone was unacceptable!!! 

Food was very limited, chef was not willing to deviate from the menu last night  (we only asked for some chips) again not too much to ask you’d think?! He did finally make them but after a lot of unnecessary drama.

I won’t be rushing back in a hurry & will be advising other colleagues not to bother either!

Disappointing service

Having visited here for the Valentines event in 2022 we were very keen to return in 2023 as the 2022 event was outstanding and as such generated a very good review from us here on TripAdvisor.
How things have changed in 12 months which have changed our visit from one that was rated outstanding in 2022 to one that was poor.
It appears that the hotel have unfortunateley lost their very talented Chef Michael Wilkinson, who was here in 2022, and who produced what was nothing more than an  exceptionally outstanding tasting menu for the valentines event. 
The food this year was very mediocre and nothing of the standard produced in 2022 by Chef Michael Wilkinson.
The 2022 event was much more of a structured event, everyone met in the lounge for pre-dinner drinks before all going into the dinning room to be seated at the same time.
This year those dining just wandered into the dinning room at varying times with no structure or atmosphere for what was supposed to be a valentines event.
Service was disappointing, we had pre-ordered our meals in advance but the waiter did not know, service was very rushed and we had to tell them to slow down bringing the courses as as soon as they cleared our plates they were arriving with the next course, it was all very rushed and not a relaxed dining experience.
Overall a very disappointing experience.

Disappointing Second Visit

Lovely place, lovely grounds, lovely food, lovely staff. Special shout out to Chloe. Nothing was too much trouble for any staff member, currently being refurbished but that didn't detract from a great place.
