I stayed here recently with friends as we were attending a wedding nearby. The rooms were comfortable and well decorated, the full English breakfast was lovely and the hosts were friendly and welcoming. We were very happy with our stay and would recommend.

Good accommodation and lovely breakfast

We stayed here for two nights !
What a pleasant surprise. We arrived & was greeted by Harley & Ady.
The room was excellent.
The breakfast was very well cooked.
I will definitely book to stay here again!

Hidden Gem

We had booked an evening meal with friends on a Saturday night. We had expected to be in the restaurant but only the bar was open. Presumably, this is due to the current renovation work but we think this should have been made clear as the bar has a completely different ambiance.
The music was supplied by a radio and there was a quiz on. This is not what we had anticipated.
Having said that, the bar was warm and service was friendly. The menu was simple but the food was good. I can recommend the steak pie.
We’ll definitely give the restaurant another go when it reopens and would pop down to the quiz night again - but wouldn’t book a meal.

Good Food

My partner and I chose fish and chips from the menu and we were not disappointed. The beer batter was a delight, crunchy and tasty whilst the fish was perfectly moist and succulent. The chips were fine as was the portion of peas and tartar sauce. We ordered desserts of bread and butter pudding and treacle pudding with individual jugs of custard, all of which was off the charts. This review would have earned a full score were it not for the extremely noisy and boisterous children that appeared to have the run of the bar and dining area. Would we return, yes of course.

Excellent Fish and Chip Lunch

For the price point of the room, I was unfortunately disappointed. In the nearby area, there is very limited if any options other than the Tally Ho Inn for a nights stay with breakfast. This wasn't a bother as the reviews and place itself looked good - which is why we looked past the high price point. We had a party of 7 so booked out 3 of the rooms, two double rooms and family room. We were asked to pay on arrival which is fine, but as the room prices were different we were unsure which one was which. The young man, who was friendly enough, told us he didn't know either and just to choose between us who pays what. We were then shown to our rooms and were told that the radiators must have been turned off by previous guests so all rooms were incredibly cold. No bother - we were at a family party that evening so turned on the radiators while we were out so they would be warmed up by the time we got back. We arrived back home at around 11:30pm ish and all rooms were stone cold. Not sure if the radiators weren't working, are on timers or were turned off, but we had a very uncomfortable and cold nights sleep. In my room particular, there were also make up stains on the sheets. It was late and wanted to sleep so just turned them round but we were not best pleased. The breakfast itself the service was very good, lovely food and well cooked. This at least perked our morning up slightly after our cold nights sleep. Upon checkout, we were not able to voice any of our issues as no one was available at the desk to return the keys. We dropped them off at the desk and then drove home. All in all, the rooms and residence itself is lovely and has a lot of potential, just a lack of execution and service unfortunately let it down. We will not be staying here again if we are in the area. 

A lot of promise just not quite met.

We had a lovely evening. Very friendly new owners nothing was to much trouble 
We have visited for  lunch before and will most certainly be visiting again

New year

Stayed at the Tally Ho Inn 16th Dec  the night before our sons wedding . 
Four of us stayed in 3 rooms on arriving scaffolding was all around the building which wasn’t a problem . 
Apparently the boiler had gone wrong in the pub so we sat near the log burner which was fine until you had to move away from it . 
We ate in the dinning area that night it was freezing cold . The food was dried up and looked like it had been reheated . We all had bad stomachs the following evening . 
The rooms we stayed in looked newly decorated but had inadequate heating , hence we spent the night freezing cold also the bedding didn’t fit the bed very well  , also the bathroom was so cold . 
Would we recommend this Inn NO . 
Staff friendly enough but certainly not worth the money we paid

Wouldn’t stay again

Visited this place in April 22 and it was bad, dirty and very rude owners, we had been told new owners had taken over so thought we would see and oh my gosh what a difference, the place is clean, warm and extremely welcoming, the new family that own it are lovely. We had a Sunday dinner and it was amazing (especially the roasted carrots) 
They are having some work done to the roof but it didn’t affect our visit and the building will look fabulous when it’s completed.
We can’t recommend this place highly enough, will definitely be back

Brilliant

I have driven past the Tally Ho Inn a number of times always finding it eye catching. A beautiful rural pub. I then decided to look online at the website, very nicely designed and easy to navigate. I checked out some reviews and thought this would be a nice place to go for my dads 80th birthday.

We looked online at the menus and decided to book a table. We’d been looking forward to this for a few weeks.

We arrived, unfortunately scaffolding was up and work being done (this hasn’t affected my review as no work was being done during our meal). We were greeted my very friendly staff and a cosy atmosphere with open fires, unfortunately the dining room was away from the warmth… we were quite cold throughout the meal and although and electric fire was on, the heating did not appear to be. We remained in our coats for our meal which wasn’t ideal.

A drinks order was taken, which they got slightly wrong. Menus were bought to the tables, we were all a bit surprised by the menu being a little blackboard as we were expecting to order from the Christmas menu or the main lunch menu. As it was a Sunday, only the Sunday lunch was available; this isn’t made very clear on the website so we were a bit disappointed.

The starters were very nice, we had goats cheese Bon bons and the wild mushroom soup. The soup could have been warmer. All in all very nice starters.

The roasts again were very nice, I would have liked more carrots, but the roast itself was cooked very well and the meat was lovely. Some of the plates seemed to have been warmed, the others not? So again the main course could have been warmer.

The best part has to be the desserts. The bread and butter pudding and chocolate fudge cake were delicious. Recommend the desserts!

If you wanted an average Sunday roast, it’s a lovely place to go and I would visit again. Unfortunately we were after something a bit more special on this occasion.

A Good Sunday lunch.

We arrived and were warmly welcomed by the bar maid 
We went to our table, the dining room was freezing. 
We had looked online for the menu but the one given was different. Ordered starters and mains 
Starter - soup was lovely, although could loose the dried parsley on top and the bread was warm and fresh 
Main - cauliflower cheese was cold, gravy was runny, meat was poorly cut and after asking for medium it was the end of the joint and well done (I’m assuming there is a cook rather than chef in the kitchen). Vegetables were served on plate and only broccoli and carrots so quite a poor selection for the cost. 
Other than one person we all left quite a lot of food on our plates, would have expected the manager to come over but no, too busy talking to people in the main bar 
you can tell it’s only just opened. 
We intended to have desserts but after the disaster main we just decided to leave. 
It’s a shame as it’s a lovely pub and has the possibility of being an amazing but they need to invest in a chef and work on their presentation. It looked no better than a home made roast but at triple the price
