A wonderful welcome to a warm friendly Pub with benefits.  We stayed in a well appointed room with a large bathroom and plenty of space for us in the bedroom, we discussed the renovations intended for the room and the tiny issues we had were sorted within moments. . 
We had a fabulous Sunday Lunch to celebrate with our family and my Veggie option was marvellous a real treat to have something different and be as well catered as the carnivores.

Birthday Celebrations at the Bull and Swan.

We have just returned from an excellent stay at the Bull and Swan. We were lucky to get an All in Sunday deal (From their website) which turned out to exceed our expectations. I don’t think I have ever met such friendly hotel and bar staff, everyone was lovely and attentive. We had Sunday lunch which was the best we have ever had. Breakfast was also outstanding and served in a lovely bar area with a roaring fire. They absolutely love dogs here, ours was very pampered and he loved it! Our room was spacious and had lots of little extras which were greatly appreciated. We cannot wait to return. The location is perfect for exploring Stamford and the surrounding area.

Perfect place to stay in Stamford

Big room, full of character and special touches such as great biscuits and fresh milk in fridge rather than sachets.  Bed was super king wide but not super king long as was two singles pushed together - entirely understandable when you saw how any furniture would get into the room!

Comfortable bath and large shower with loads of hot water.

Well cooked evening meal but this was well eclipsed by the excellent breakfast.

All in all exceptional value for money enhanced by the best staff we have ever encountered, would love to know how they recruit them!

Exceeded expectations

The staff were absolutely fabulous they made us most welcome and were very attentive. It was in an ideal location in Stamford, with free parking. 

If I had one small criticism it would be lack of light in our room. Why do hotels do away with a central room light. You can't see a thing!

A gorgeous stay at The Bull & Swan.  Super friendly and  highly professional customer service from all members of Staff.  Beautiful classic surroundings within the building and the Room was perfect.  The largest bed and the most luxurious! The Breakfast was   vast and varied with so many immediate options and then you could chose from the Cooked menu too.  Local quality ingredients were just excellent. In all a most enjoyable stay in a stunning location.  Being a Stamfordian I am very proud of my home town and all the treasures that can be found there.  Thank you team Bull & Swan.  A sheer delight.

To Celebrate our first  "Leap Year" engagement anniversary.

Before booking asked if there was a la carte as well as Sunday roast. I was assured that this was the case as it was a special occasion for us, and we wanted something special . This was not available when we sat down to eat, so we had to go elsewhere. Also some of the Sunday choice was sold out, even if we had wanted it  further limiting our choices. This was at 5.45 pm. Not very happy about this especially due to limited availability on a Sunday night in the town.. 

No-one explained to us that there was milk in a fridge which is not obvious, in the wardrobe, so we were not able to have a drink in the morning. A sign might help, we expected little sachets out with all the other tea making items.

We also found the breakfast disappointing, the smoked bacon was inedible as it was way too strong, and the eggs were barely cooked. 

The tv had lost all its channels, so we had to have ut retuned by a staff member, this was because it had been switched off at the wall  because it was impossible to turn it off with the remote. So a in all we really had a less than satisfactory experience.

A less than happy ecperience

stayed in a chic room. lovely comfortable big bed. husband loved the Roberts radio on bedside table and plenty tea and coffee in room with fresh milk in fridge. freshly cooked omelette in the morning was delicious.

a luxurious night away

Stayed here couple of weeks ago whilst visiting for a friends birthday. Parking at the William Cecil a few hundred yards down the road was straightforward. There's a lack of signage around the premises but we checked in at the bar, staff were friendly but not very experienced as walked us to the wrong room first. Unfortunately it was a hot day and our room was even hotter. We tried to let some air in but only part of the window opens. There was just no air or airflow in the room. A fan heater was provided which was a total waste of time and made the room hotter. We both had a quick cold shower to try and cool down, got dressed as fast as possible and headed down to the bar/courtyard for a drink and to meet our friends. Both of their rooms were the same issue of being very hot with no air circulation, hotel advised that as they are listed they can't install aircon which is unfortunate. But for the rates they are charging they need something better than basic old fans that didn't work very well, maybe ceiling fans or something more capable of moving air would be better. One of the rooms our friends had been assigned was not en-suite with the bathroom across the hall. The hotel describe this as quirky and that it is a private bathroom as you can pull a curtain across the hall. Be careful when booking, this was booked in February for a stay in September. Had we have noticed the last 2 lines of the confirmation that the last room of 3 wasn't en suite we wouldn't have stayed here. The rear courtyard area was nice, no table service though, you had to go into the bar to order and collect your drinks to take back outside which we did for a couple of drinks then headed out. Returned around midnight to our room which was still very hot, we both had a terrible lack of sleep and were up early again to have a cold shower to try and cool off again. The shower was good to be fair.  Breakfast in the hotel bar was generally OK, some aspects not to our taste but generally good. We checked out and the staff member advised me that our receipt would be emailed straight away. That did not happen and my friend had to chase the hotel for our receipts for each room as they had not been invoiced and sent as advised. The hotel didn't answer the phone in the morning despite multiple calls. We then emailed to request the invoices. Imagine our surprise to find that we were charged service charges on our transactions of collecting drinks from the bar! Unbelievable, no wonder they didn't print it when we checked out! When my friend queried this direct with the hotel they advised that orders at the bar over a certain amount had a service charge applied, there was nothing that we saw at the bar which told us this and the staff didn't either. Seems most unusual that 2 transactions had a service charge but then the last one didn't? Whilst the service charge wasn't the end of the world in terms of cost, the manner in which it was applied was inconsistent on our invoice and felt underhand. Get the feeling the charged what they can and hope you don't notice, not good.

Not a great experience

Best ever Sunday lunch. The pork belly fell apart. The Yorkshire pudding was crisp and light, green vegetables beautifully cooked, cauliflower cheese, stuffing, sweet potato. Very attentive and friendly staff. Excellent.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay - dinner in the courtyard was charming and the food delicious. The team went the extra mile to help
me with my car and we’re polite and attentive throughout our stay. Great coffee with breakfast. If you like to stay somewhere with some history this is the place .
