My sons bought me a voucher for afternoon tea. I decided to ask my friend to share it with me as she has been unwell lately. 
We were asked to pay an extra £7.90 for the two of us as its festive tea.
When we arrived we were the only ones there and it was very quiet. There was no atmosphere, and no Christmas feel to the room. 
The food arrived and we were very underwhelmed. A small selection. 
I have previously had a lovely afternoon tea next door, at Harleys. Loads to eat and good value. 
I wouldn't recommend Dunsley Hall, I would choose Harleys.

Not value for money

Room very spacious. Television was quite small for the room, but beautifully decorated.
Sadly there was a party on the Saturday night and a lot of banging of doors until quite late which disturbed our sleep.
The Sunday evening was nice and quiet though.

Excellent staff and food.

This place is a little tired inside, but overall our experience was pretty good, we had an issue with the bed on our first nights stay but the reception staff resolved this immediately and we were moved to a different room. We would definitely stay here again if we were wanting to be just outside the seaside town of Whitby which is very near.
Oliver was working the bar & restaurant and i would have to say what a gem of a young man he is, polite, attentive and very good customer service skills.

Food and staff were fabulous

Stayed here for 2 nights whilst visiting family in the area. Very comfortable room and bed, the house is a period building so that little bit different. Warm and cosy and receptionist very friendly and helpful. Breakfast at Harleys on-site was really good and ate at The Manor House , about 5 minutes away, in the evening, which is another lovely building and food very good. Would def stay here again.

A great stay.

We have had several Sunday lunches at Dunsley Hall and they have all been very good- except the one we had today. 

Positives: Starters - Tomato Soup and Smoked duck were good.

Main Course: Lamb shank very tender.

Negatives:

Roast Beef - 2 of us, very disappointing.  Mine was not tender and both were tasteless. 

Vegetables  very disappointing.  Oversweet red cabbage, French beans and cauliflower cheese.  Not the selection we expected.

Desserts not up to standard. 

Coffee was weak and tasteless. 

Was the usual chef off duty?

Service was dreadful.  After finishing our  main course the waitress stood talking to two ladies at the next table for well over 15 minutes. Then walked out leaving us still waiting to order our desserts and two other tables waiting for their bills. 

One client came from a private party to ask to order drinks. 

There was no one available  at the end of out meal to complain to. 

I hope the hotel staff read this review and take the necessary action to improve standards of food and service.

Sunday Lunch

Visited in the summer and again in December. Celebrating a "special" birthday with 28 friends in the summer, afternoon tea was excellent! Dionne, Maxine and staff ensured it was a day to remember and everything ran smoothly... just as promised. Visited again in December for afternoon tea - on this occasion in a party of 4 and  it was "everything and more". Such a beautiful setting with lovely attentive staff! 

Fabulous afternoon teas!

Third stay here, enjoyed our stay again. Had an issue with noise due to plumbing  but quickly resolved by reception and our room and property moved whilst we were out enjoying our steampunk weekend. As alway the breakfast is excellent as is the service especially by Oliver in the bar and restaurant,  lovely person so warm and friendly. Evening meal good but watch for the additional cost for steak and prawn cocktail. Drink not cheap but of a good standard. Phone direct to book as can get a better deal thank Booking.com. rooms clean and roomy, we have stayed in 4 different rooms now and every bed different for comfort, personally a good night sleep is essential so maybe staff should try the beds and maybe upgrade some of the mattresses. Just my opinion.  
Never notice dogs welcome on previous stays and not for us as  i have allergies and didn't appreciate dogs growling at me in the bar and corridor.  The hotel is very picturess and the ground lovely to walk and sit in especially in the summer. Not far to drive into Whitby and some lovely llaces to visit. Would we stay again yes but would like a ground floor room as lots of stairs and we have lots of baggge when we attend events. Overall I highly recommend this hotel for couples 

Great weekend stay

Firstly, the former privately owned house and rooms were pleasant enough - but not a lot has changed downstairs since the 1990s - old orangery apart. 
Areas for improvement - larger TV and fixed higher up - even on the wall - to allow easier viewing, shower drainage needs clearing out as ending up paddling before water ran away slowly, noise from the courtyard area from very very loud music, car doors of people coming & going,  voices, or people smoking outside the restaurant - as the windows were single glazed  - and we needed the widow open for fresh air. (If they just turned the music down it would have been fine)

Noisy Neighbour Music & a little tired

This was a trip to visit relatives in nearby Sturbridge. We found this hotel quite by accident, and turned out to be one of the best experiences we’ve had in many a year. The experience we received was superb. We were welcomed with open arms by the family run hotel, checking was quick, We were shown to our room which was superb in every way. It was comfortable clean and rated 10 out of 10 for us.

We use the facilities of the restaurant, and the area of the café which did breakfast. Highly recommended for a state in the area

Superb, brilliant, friendly.

One of the worst B&B I have stayed in. Room like a shoe box.. Not big enough for a chair or stand to put case  on. TEA COFFEE facilities megre. I had to self tighten the tap unit to sink as it was lose. My wife had a fall in corridor as step not marked  properly.  While cost of stay included breakfast, it was in the Smoke House across the drive and not welcoming.. And cost of room was excessive.
