It was so very bad, we didn’t stay. The room was described as Superior but was anything but. The description says double rooms have en-suite but ours had a private bathroom which was across a grubby hallway with keys which we struggled to open the door with. All in all, it was totally unsuitable. The area was seedy and noisy and as the barman suggested to us when showing us the room, also somewhat unsafe. We asked for a refund and have had no communication from the manager or no satisfactory response from the booking company. Be warned!

Totally awful. Don’t book here, and don’t believe the misleading reviews and grading.

One of the many great pubs in this area but the bonus is this one has lovely rooms and amazing staff & absolutely delicious food, special thanks to Andy who is a real credit to the pub, what a great host!! We will definitely return when in the area next time 💕

A little gem

This place really makes you feel at home. Very friendly reception, spot clean room and bathroom (the bathroom is over the corridor, but private, so no problem), IFI works and is easy to check in. The beer choice is unrivaled, brewery next door, used to be in the same family. Food excellent, breakfast as well. (do not park at the neighbour's places, they are not friendly).

coming home when traveling

Great  pub/hotel. Stayed 2 nights in April, in well decorated, soundproofed bedrooms. Great home cooked food for dinner and breakfast: going the extra mile to provide excellent service.
Home brewed beer and gin of superb quality.  What more could you ask for?

Great place to stay!

Friend and i stayed one night.  Restaurant was great. Food good. Sleep was difficult to neighbours talking till one o'clock in the morning.  |Room clean very small. Bathroom along corridor which was not ideal.

Great restaurant room basic

Stayed for one night, last night with family. Nice clean rooms and private bathrooms. Beds were good and comfy with nice bedding. Although the rooms were above a pub there was no noise. Nice beer brewed on site and a large quality breakfast this morning. I would stay here again if i am in the area and the host was great, thanks for looking after us.

Overnight stay

We came here to stay and meet friends, we were greeted by a very friendly landlord who shown us to our room it was small but freshly decorated with more than enough tea and coffees The private bathroom is across the landing each room has its own.A lovely shower with toiletries.The bar obviously had a fantastic array of ales on offer and tge breakfast was massive.Good quality grub a great stopover and i would definitely stay here again 10/10

Overnight stop

We stayed here a couple if nights ago. I will review the pub & restaurant separately on their Trip Advisor restaurant page as that was fab - a definite 4*. 

The hotel rooms are part of a separate annexe which is above the pub but accessed through a separate door. Our room, Night Owl, was very clean and very basic, but the sheets had been fitted whilst they were still damp so the room smelled dreadfully musty. The bed was awful - really soft and creaky. The mattress and bed frame need replacing and this wasn’t conducive to a good nights sleep for my wife and I. If they rectify these things, it would be a vast improvement. There was no excess noise from other guests and there was a nice selections of teas and even a coffee machine.

Clean and basic room

My daughters and I had an hour to spare before an appointment nearby so we popped in for a quick lunch on Sunday 16 May. 

We were greeted warmly and looked after beautifully by the lovely Emily. (Certain other pub owners would benefit from a lesson or two from her in superb customer service.)

The outside tables were clean, comfortable and covered. Emily put the heater on so we were lovely and warm despite the rain. A basket of cosy blankets was nearby. Loos were clean and smelled of bleach. And how lovely it is inside too. 

The food was fabulous. Hot, beautifully cooked, generous portions and clearly home made. 

If / when I’m in the area again I shall be making a beeline for this place. 

What a gem! 

Couldn’t fault our Sunday lunch. After months of not going out we decided to support an independent business. Drinks were served as quick as if we were at the bar and food was absolutely delicious. We had pigs in blankets and chicken fillets to start, beef dinner, followed by apple pie and chocolate brownie. We even took away a beef dinner for the mother in law, who enjoyed it just as much. We’re already looking forward a take away lunch during lock down. Thanks for a lovely lunch.
