Area of having breakfast is clean and clear

Disliked · Hygenic quality of the rooms is poor, especially the bathrooms that smell very heavy of drainage.
Bathrooms having mould all around seals.
Broken Bathroom fixtures, no place to hang your change of clothes, and even loo roll holder is missing.
Mould around Bedroom Window
No plug in room to connect kettle, you need to move the bed in room no.2 to access a plug point.
Breakfast finishes at 9am sharp! only available between 7-9 daily.
I had 2 rooms booked, and both poor quality
Requested and paid for 2 double rooms booked weeks ago and on arrival one room was double and other was twin (not happy!) - zero effort to correct this from check in staff.
Mattresses in both rooms need changing, sleep was very uncomfortable as springs are almost exposed. Mentioned this to staff and they advise there was nothing they could do, apart from provide extra bedding to put on top of the springs!
Wifi does not work in the rooms, only in bar area downstairs.
No toiletries supplied - best to bring your own.
The corridor smells of smoke and rooms have a serious drainage problem - avoid room 2 and 7!!

Sadly I will not be booking at this venue again.

Family holiday May 2023

Great food again 2nd time here for food had a Christmas meal with friends great meal and staff were very friendly nothing was to much for them ask for something and got thanks for a great meal nice and hot

6 of us went here for a family dinner and were greeted with a friendly smile!
Our waitress was really helpful and friendly,food was delicious and my wife enjoyed a cocktail will definitely return when we come back up to see our family which hopefully will be soon!

Family Lunch

Travelled from London Saturday 28/10/‘23 , there were 15 in total in our party booked in overnight as we attending family gathering nearby,, I had pre booked lunch table 1.30pm, originally for 5, staff assured wasn’t a problem to include further unexpected 3 guests , food, service excellent , there is parking at side of the pub,  the rooms comfortable, clean, next morning breakfast was exceptional, after breakfast as our party bid farewell to each other, a female staff kindly showed myself and hubby around the venue, pointing out various items /ornaments for sale, thank you to all the staff at The Anchor , I would highly recommend a visit to dine/stay 

Excellent stay 28/10/‘23

Had an amazing carvery here last Sunday great value for money .
Lovely choice of meats and veg all cooked lovely and very hot which is rare for carvery's.
Condiments were plentiful as well.
Desserts were very yummy .
Staff lovely and friendly 
Highly recommend if you want a top class roast dinner.

We visited the restaurant for lunch on Wed 28th December (me and Mum in Law).  We thought it was a Christmas treat however.  We arrived at 12.15 for a 12.30 booking.  no one else in the restaurant when we arrived.  At turned 1pm my mother in law went to the bar to ask if there was any chance of getting served.  Plating up now was the response.  It still took 10 more minutes (so an Hour's wait by now.)  It arrived and mine was cold.  Goat's cheese tartlet filo pastry not cooked and was almost white.  One log of cut up goats cheese with some sliced of beetroot between the sections.  All cold.  The so called caramelised onions were just like a slurry on the mass of filo pastry.  Sweet potato chips were skinny and burnt (not edible really but still better than the cold mound of uncooked tart.  Had about two bits and left it all.  Mum in law had salmon which was the only thing that looked edible and presentable.  Vegetable for her were just not cooked at all.  They wanted to put min back in the microwave.  I declined.  We gave up on the idea of desert.  I told that person on the bar as we were about to pay - how bad things were.  They did not even have the decency to offer a part refund on my dish.  Appalling food.  Filthy sticky tables and menus, sticky with food from previous use and not cleaned.  Just disgusting.

Booked after500 mile drive expecting to get a rest before continuing on with our journey 
We looked on website and had great reviews and pictures 
Was asked for money upfront which we did 
Only to find the room unacceptable door handle hanging off window unable to shut bed springs viable 
Have tried messaging but no luck 
We should have told them but we were very tired and just gave keys back and returned home 
Really disappointed should be offered refund

Not fit for purpose

Booked 2 rooms as we were visiting for a family wedding. We were given rooms 15 and 16 in the annex. we arrived at 12 but we were able to access both rooms which was great so we could quickly get changed.

I was absolutely dreading staying after reading some of the reviews however I was really pleased with everything. Both rooms were clean with everything we needed for an overnight stay, tea and coffee making facilities. We also had fresh toiletries, fluffy white towels and a nice big TV. 

We ate in the restaurant as this was where the wedding meal was held. All of our meals were hot and tasty. The breakfast that was included was lovely, cereal, toast and then a cooked option.

For the money I think the anchor offers fantastic value for money. It’s not a plush 5* but it’s clean, with decent food and facilities. If we are in the area again we would definitely return for food a place to stay!

Rooms and food fab!

I don’t always leave reviews but after reading the reviews for this hotel I also feel compelled to contribute. 

From the sticky tables in the restaurant, to the limited menu (only serving carvery) and the warm white wine - dinner was disappointing. 

The rooms are small and stuffy. The linen, whilst clean, was old and flat - many heads have slept on those pillows.  The rooms themselves required us to cross a very busy road. 

We just would not come back.
