Fantastic food and hospitality,couldn’t recommend this place enough. Managed to pick a 6 nations weekend the bar was a great atmosphere as you’d expect,the beer was good wpa I think was the drink. Ordered food in the bar,my partner had the steak and I had the lamb,I can honestly say I don’t think I’ve had better. Staff are great too.

Great location even greater hotel. We definitely going back to this hotel and use it as a base for motorcycle routes.

Lovely food in a great little establishment. Would have preferred to sit in the longe bar but this was full (clearly a good sign).

Very friendly and accommodating staff serving great tasting food, beer and wine in a timely manner.

Special mention to the serving staff. A couple of other diners were quite challenging and would have tested the patience of many.  The serving staff remained courteous and extremely helpful throughout and should be commended!

Great little find.

Having already been here previously, there really only was one destination for a decent pint and some food during my stay in the area. Special mention to Tracy who despite my not having booked a table, made swift arrangements to accommodate my request - thank you again Tracy and hope you enjoyed the gin and tonic! Highly recommend and central with parking outside. Good mix of locals and out of towners like me but welcomed and treated well. I’ve no doubt I’ll pass through here again and will ensure I stop off at Y Talbot.

Welcoming and friendly pub/eatery

I have visited this place a few times on business but have come back as it is so good. 

Lively but rooms which overlook the gardens. Gardens are well kept and great for walking the dogs. 

The main reason I like staying is the restaurant.  The food is both simple and delicious.

Great food

We were staying in Tregaron for the week and booked in for our first night here. One of our party is a vegan and we were so surprised to see that they had a starter and main that was vegan. The food was excellent.

We booked again for our last night and tentatively asked if there was any possibility of a different vegan main course, not expecting them to be able to it. They came up with a completely different main course and it was excellent.
The chef really knows what he's doing here. The food is fresh and utterly delicious. The staff are attentive and friendly. I would HIGHLY recommend.


An absolute gem

We stayed for one night and ate lunch and dinner. Overall the food was good, quality ingredients but just a bit “average”. The service was disappointing. This place is not cheap, and you expect a bit of fuss with your meal. The lunch service was ok, but dinner was just terrible. No one really around - we found our table but then we were given tatty menus and then once we found someone it was order at the bar and just didn’t feel special (I had to wait at the bar for 10 minutes and others after me went around to the other bar and got served first!. There was no ambience at all and we were pretty much left to our own devices - for a good chef the hotel is let down by poorly trained / experienced staff. Breakfast was good, although again there was no one around so we sat down (and was then asked to move). Cooked Breakfast was good but very little choice for fruit etc.

The room was very bland - felt like a generic hotel! The shower curtain was dirty and the bathroom woodwork was rotting. This maybe a country hotel from the outside but feels like a bland business hotel inside. No sound proofing in rooms and the furnishings were tatty. 

Overall disappointing after hearing about it on wales online. The food is good but not worth going out of your way for.

I wouldn’t waste you money.

Disappointed, not as expected

A midweek evening meal, not the best we’ve has here but acceptable given the likely Christmas pressures on the kitchen.

Evening spoiled by a group of obnoxious loud foul mouthed men in the bar who would not desist when asked (politely) by both the publican and myself. ‘Regular’, locals apparently, clearly way past worse for wear. Don’t know what the house rules are, but I doubt ‘being allowed to threaten other customers’ is in the charter. Difficult for the publican for sure, who apologised, as we left early, as I felt we should.

OK food, boorish drunks spoiled the evening. Hopefully a one off.

This old hotel has been updated and has a fine garden behind with an elephant buried at the top! We had a room without a view but a couple of potted shrubs were a small recompense. The staff were helpful and correct. We slept well once we found the heating control on the wall. The lack of a chair with a back was a mistake as a stool is not sufficient. Our breakfast was fine although the range was a little limited. We enjoyed the atmosphere of the 'pub' with its open fire and cheery noise of locals enjoying company. Good to see full use of Welsh in the menus, etc. It would be better still if the staff used some welsh in greetings, etc.

Outstanding Hotel with Gardens Behind and a Popular Bar

We stayed overnight in Y Talbot last week & were very impressed with the Hotel. We booked the Superior Double Room (1) which was overlooking the square & had a very nice bathroom.

We really enjoyed our meal, olives & warm bread before main course which were good quality & excellent bread.  I had the fillet of seabass which was cooked perfectly & my Husband had confit of duck which he thoroughly enjoyed. Mango pannacotta with apricot sorbet to end which was delicious.

The quality of the breakfast was superb, strawberries, raspberries & blueberries, very fresh. Cooked breakfast with local produce was also excellent, best bacon I have ever tasted.

Staff also very pleasant & Tregaron is a pretty little Town.

We would definitley recommend a stay here!

Lovely Room & Meal in Restaurant

On holiday so thought we'd have dinner at y Talbot seeing as they have Michelin stars (!?). So disappointing. We both had steak homemade chips, pea puree mushrooms. The steak was ordered as medium well done. It was very rare. The homemade chips were rubbishy frozen chips lots of those scaggy ends you get at the bottom of the bag. A  good handful inedible. I suspect they were fried earlier then microwaved. A mushroom cut in 4 and what looked like parsley butter but with no taste. The price for these 2 small tough steaks no veg? £52!!!!
I did complain and the girl on reception said she'd pass on to chef, I said I wasn't happy with the value to which she said they'd had to put prices up, and wouldn't be able to change the price. Only after asking for the manager (she was the duty manager) did she offer free desert, which we accepted. Strawberry cheesecake with ice cream. Again no taste few thinly slices of strawberries . Nothing special and £8.50 each. They're having a laugh, Had better meals in my local pub. There's probably a case for trading standards.
