We stayed one night in November in a deluxe double room.  The Inn is obviously centuries old with wonky stairs and creaky floorboards, all to be expected.  Our room was large and clearly aimed at people only staying one or two nights as the wardrobe was tiny.  There was a Nespresso machine and a kettle with tea and coffee on the desk.   Also on the desk was a lamp which I had to move on to the floor as it was in front of the TV.   The bathroom was a good size but I was so disappointed with the toiletries; I expected either the small bottles of shampoo, shower gel and conditioner or the ubiquitous wall-hung versions but found  instead big bottles of head and shoulders shampoo and another brand conditioner.  What I thought was  an almost empty bottle of shower gel lying on its side turned out instead to be another shampoo - perhaps we were expected to use it as shower gel.  In between the two sinks was an empty wall-hung hand wash bottle but there was at least a (well used) bottle of hand wash on the side.  It all seemed a little haphazard and uncared for and not what I expected for the price we paid (£129).

When we retired for the night I watched TV while my husband fell fast asleep.  When I eventually turned the light out to settle down I became aware of breathing that wasn’t mine or my husband’s.  I woke him up to be sure (I know, my bad) and he could hear it too; he thought it was the person in the next room.  I eventually fell asleep and in the morning my husband said he was certain it was the person in the next room as it had turned into snoring at some point.  So, not the haunting experience I initially thought but the wall must be very thin and I’m glad my late night TV viewing hadn’t kept them awake.

Breakfast was a pared back event.  Lovely hot coffee to order but not a lot of options and a hot breakfast is extra.  The staff we encountered were lovely and we enjoyed drinks in the bar with friends when we first arrived but I doubt we’ll return.    


Disappointing

We were looking forward to a bowl of soup and a break. The soup was as dull as the staff. Potato and leek but I think the leek escaped but not the salt, of which there was too much.  And a dismal knowledge of the drinks stocked so just a tonic water. This should be wonderful,  it isn't but the loos were nice

Gloomy and cold

Came here with some friends, flat coke, fish and chips were grey in colour and tasted awful. The worst meal I have ever eaten. The chips looked like potato peel that had been fried.. Fish was soggy and tasted really odd. Staff are terrible, they don’t care at all. Left us waiting ages to order, never checked if we were ok.
I couldn’t wait to leave! Was that bad, 
I would give it 0 stars if I could.

Awful food, Awful service. 

Used to be an excellent go to pub,  but now very poor quality food - basic beer. House wine - awful. Service good as you could expect given the poor quality of food/drink. The doormen/woman are over zealous and act like they're guarding Buckingham palace. Extremely patronising, passive aggressive, and rude. We only went for a family drink - it's a pub that's meant to be serving the local community, yet they act like it's an all exclusive VIP venue - eventually got let in to find a near empty pub with a leaky roof. I think we surprised the staff by actually wanting to drink there. Sort your bouncers out please - we're grown adults that don't need to be mentored on how to use a pub. PS - you had a ton of under aged drinkers there too - how did they get past Rambo and Rambet??

what's happened to this, once excellent, place? The latest fire might have done the local community a favour!

If you get room number 1 then refuse.  Directly opposite roundabout next to busy side road. 
B and breakfast is a joke . Included was juice tea coffe variety pack cereal nothing else was on offer.  On the plus side bed was comfortable.  Old coffee machine in room god knows when it was last sterilised or cleaned.  This was our experience.  Hopefully your stay will be better 

No sleep

I would like to bring to your immediate attention to the awful experience my wife and i had at your Inn on Friday 21st Jan. 
We booked a Deluxe Room - overnight stay following funeral and wake event at the Greyhound Inn via Booking.com, costing £140, including a very substandard continental breakfast.
After booking in we went to our room to find the room absolutely freezing cold. No heat from the only radiator at all.
I complained to reception and was informed that a team were in the process of bleeding the radiators. OUTRIGHT BULL - all the pipework to the radiator were cold. Eventually oil radiators were brought to our room to warm us up.
The room in general was lovely and big but very tatty and unclean. The bed, although extra large as requested and paid for, had the Duvet hanging out of the cover at the foot. Very unclean and careless!. The mattress I think had been there since the English Civil war. It was like trying to sleep on concrete.
The TV had power, however would not work with remote. On inspection we found there were no batteries in it nor did it have a battery plastic cover to hold them in.
Although the room area was very large there was only one double electric point in the whole area which were taken up to feed the oil filled electric radiators. Absolutely not acceptable.
The central chandelier had 4 lights but only 2 were working.
Bathroom - a further joke! When taking a shower and setting the heat to suit the water suddenly went cold. This was continuous throughout showering period. The sinks were broken and had no waste cover. Again not good enough!
Finally the Piece De Resistance. The Wake function held at the Inn on Friday evening in a private section entertaining 70 people to celebrate Susie Evans passing sponsored by the tune of £2000 behind the bar plus 18+ bottles of Prosecco fizz and supposedly hot and cold buffet for 60+ people at £20 head,
we were told at 23.15hrs that the pub bar was now closed and the employed Security Guards demanded all remaining occupants of function area to leave immediately and either to wait outside or if resident, proceed to their rooms. At which time all the lights in function areas were turned off. 
Outrageous, Unbelievable and SHOCKING behaviour.
We returned to our luke warm room and there was a continual barrage of noise coming from downstairs sounding like the bar staff was having a private party. At 0.30hrs my wife had enough and stomped down to the bar area to complain.  
However, the door from the residence rooms to the bar were locked. My wife knocked on the glass door window until one large male member of staff answered.
When confronted the male staff employee told my wife not raise her voice at him, totally intimidated my wife returned to room but immediately after the noise stopped. But I can tell you I was very close to calling the Police after this threatening behaviour.
I cannot put across how much stress and negative emotional impact the Greyhound Inn have made to what was supposed to be a Celebration to a very lovely lady's passing.
We of course will be sending this correspondence on to Booking.com ( ref 2311-658-258).
I shall be looking for a full refund and a letter of apology.

Wake after cremation

As we have done almost every year since founding in 2008, Misbourne River Action Group returned to The Greyhound for our annual dinner.  The team were very easy to work with regarding booking, numbers changing, special diets etc.  Service was good and friendly.  Everyone enjoyed their meals (2 or three course options from a nice menu) and I think everyone thought was good value overall.  We expect to return in 2023.  Previous numbers attending have varied 14 - 24)

Another Successful Evening

You only have to look at the recent reviews to know that this place has gone down hill in a big way.
I have stayed here on previous occasions, mostly because of its location, and it has been acceptable. On this last occasion, it was very far from acceptable. At dinner, the starter I ordered wasn’t available, so I had to have something else. Then the main course I ordered wasn’t available, so I had to have something else. It really isn’t too had to take things off the menu if you can’t provide them.
The room was adequate, but right over the road and the appalling traffic noise effectively prevented any sleep, (never stay in room No.1) but there was worse to come. In the morning I found that the showerhead was lying in the bath and when I tried to put it back on the fitting, I found that this wasn’t possible because it was broken. The choice was now whether to try and shower one handed, or go home and have a proper shower. I opted for the latter.
Judging by the number of people in the dining room, I can’t believe that the hotel was full, so why would you put a guest in a room where you know the shower is unusable?  You might be able to forgive this, but not when the room cost £110.
Sadly, we will never stay here again as, fortunately, there are plenty of alternatives within a few miles.

Never Again.

The room was superficially pleasant enough. The bar area and lounges are comfortable and nicely decorated. The staff were friendly and eager to please but the majority are very young and inexperienced. The location is excellent for all sorts of reasons.
 However, having arrived for a four night stay I had to ask for the room to be cleaned after the second and third nights. No-one had entered the room since I was helped with my bag on arrival. This situation continued until I left. The bed wasn’t made. Rubbish wasn’t removed. Tea and milk wasn’t replaced. The sink stank of drains which was nasty as it is in the bedroom and not the bathroom.

Disappointing and will not return.

Truly awful coffee, undrinkable.  Full English £14, compared with £9.50 at the White Hart in Chalfont St Giles. They made their own baked beans out of haricot and tomato sauce. It was awful too. Would have just sooner just have had Heinz from a tin. All in all, really wanted this to be good but it wasnt.
