Booked ourselves in for an afternoon tea in the orangery and it was just wonderful. We had our dogs with us and the staff welcomed them in with open arms. The afternoon tea was lovely and a great selection of savoury and sweet. The view was outstanding as well, just being able to sit and enjoy the lake and the mountains from the orangery was lovely. The male working this afternoon couldn’t have been more helpful and always checking in to see how we were doing and if we needed anything else. Can’t wait to come back and visit again!

Brilliant afternoon tea.

We have stayed here a number of times and it never disappoints. The Lake view rooms have breathtaking views across Ullswater and mountains, you could happily stay there all day watching the world go by. The food is first class and all the staff, front of house and housekeeping all go the extra mile to make sure your stay is perfect. 

The Perfect Hotel

Another excellent break away at the IOTL. The hotel is a fantastic place to stay and eat at. The staff can not do more to make the stay enjoyable. The accommodation was clean and comfortable. Would recommend to anyone who was looking to nook.

Excellent visit

We traveled to the Lakes to celebrate my Birthday. Hotel staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about the food and drink available. Our room overlooked the Lake and had been refurbished just prior to Christmas, it was lovely. The bed was extremely comfortable and all the soft furnishings were lovely. 

We ate at the Hotel for three nights and food was good quality. I only had 1 poor breakfast (I’d asked for soft scrambled eggs and were told they were already cooked). The meal was cold and very disappointing but all the other food was lovely.

The ambience in the dining room was lovely and staff were attentive.

There’s not a lot ( other than the Hotel in Glenridding) but as a base for days out it’s great.

Wonderful Hotel - would happily recommend

From the minute we arrived it was fabulous with a warm welcome. Great lounges with Lake views and beautiful grounds. Very dog friendly and you can dine with your dog in the Orangery.
Dining was a pleasant experience with a good choice and excellent service.

Lovely Hotel with stunning views and fabulous staff

A lovely location with a fabulous view from our room. The room was warm and comfortable but the four poster bed was the most uncomfortable we have ever experienced. We are regulars at a sister hotel with the same 4 star rating, which offers a much better experience. The hotel is overpriced,  particularly at £40 for dinner with a poor menu choice of tasteless bland  food. Will not be returning. 

Disappointed 

Lovely location but food and service a let down . 
Had Sunday roast . Meat was tough. Vegetables were warm and not enough for three people!! 
Felt rushed to leave and pay bill. 
Waiter did not offer more drinks .
Would possibly return but not on a Sunday

Somewhat disappointed with average meal but beautiful setting

We had our wedding here about 8 years ago and loved it. We decided to take our daughter here and show her where we got married. Things to note there was no wedding on at the time we stayed and the front patio is being completely renovated.  

We really loved our stay and splashed out on a lake view, the staff are exceptionally friendly and that hasn’t changed in 8 years. It really adds to the stay. It was quite quiet (apart from the building work) as there was no wedding, the weddings aren’t in a separate area. The only thing I noticed a lot more this time round was the amount of dogs staying in the hotel. Not really a problem apart from the room opposite had a really yappy dog. Not appreciated at 6am when they let it out. 

The thing that has taken a star off for us was unfortunately the food. We specifically chose this place all those years ago because of the food it was exceptional whether it was breakfast, orangery or restaurant food. We have been back just for food over the years and loved it. For me this time while there was nothing wrong with it, it was pleasant enough, it just didn’t stand out like last time. There was something a miss. 

Lovely stay with friendly staff 

Called in for an Anniversary lunch, as a bit of a treat, and it was !     Had lunch in the Orangery, made to feel very welcome, a table overlooking the lake.   The service was excellent and the meal (although perhaps more expensive than most) was delicious and worth the extra fiver or so.       Made our 55th wedding anniversary a speacial day.

Well worth that liitle bit extra cost

Had a 2 night stay in February.  We stayed in a no view room, but it still had a bit of a mountain view.  The room was very well decorated and had a large modern bathroom with separate bath and shower.  The shower took a while to heat up and had low water pressure.

The staff were all really friendly and the food was excellent. I’m Coeliac and there were plenty of gluten free options on the menu and the waiting staff were really knowledgeable and understood about cross contamination.

Would definitely stay again.
