We stated in the shepherds hut for two nights and it was inferred that the facilities were private to us and alongside the hut but alas they were not - they were across the field and shared with other campers - not great for £75 per night and especially with the current COVID situation. 

You had to beware of the dogs mess in the field which was not pleasant at all and totally unnecessary by the owner.  This was Fresh as well!

There is no lock on the Hut so you had to leave everything open when you go out for the day as well - so simple to change this.

They stated logs would supplied for the wood burner - no logs. 

No tea/coffee supplied although it stated a welcome pack provided 

Owner never even came by to ask if everything was ok especially when she lived on site!

Facilities not as Described - Shepherds Hut 

We booked the shepherds hut for a secluded romantic trip. The hut was not secluded it shares a field with 6 camping pitches. As each pitch can accommodate 2 tents we could have potentially been sharing our secluded holiday with around 36 campers. Luckily there were only two tents in the field for our stay.

But there is only one toilet and one shower for everyone and very poor lighting to get to them at night.

Also there was lots of dog poop in the field especially near the facilities so you need to beware at night. One day we returned to find dog poop right next to our secluded hut yet that day there were no other campers in the field. I feel Dogs should not be allowed in the field.

The hut was well equipped but the funny bunk bed looked rather dirty so we slept up the wrong end of the bed as we didn’t fancy sleeping below it.

All in all we feel we paid a High price for nothing better than a poor glamping trip.

Not a secluded shepherds hut!

I booked a stay here recently after which the money was immediately taken from my account a month before the booking date. I got a message saying the booking was cancelled for no apparent reason but they use several websites to book on. Very brusk on the phone, thanks for leaving us without accommodation 3 days before our holiday. Beware of booking with this organisation.

Don't trust the booking process

We couldn’t have asked for a better setting and venue for our wedding. Mesmear was everything we had hoped for and struggled to find anywhere else in the country. We hired the whole site for a week around our wedding day – allowing our closest friends and family to stay on site, as well as our boisterous black Labrador, Moby. John and I had always hoped to be able to create a wedding that allowed us to spend extra time with all our loved ones, and the idea of just one day was never enough! 

The gorgeous cottages are all finished to the highest standard and we weren’t left wanting for anything – each and every cottage was bigger than they appear in the pictures. The layout on the farm allowed family and friends to have their own space as well as opportunities to come together. Everyone loved feeding the pigs! As well as the cottages, animals, swimming pool, gym, table tennis and plenty of space to play games, Vicki and the whole team were on hand to help with suggestions to help facilitate anything else we could think of. The surf lessons organised for everyone with Wavehunters were brilliant and led to lots of laughs and fantastic photographs! We also had an outdoor yoga lesson onsite as the sun was setting – an amazing memory. 

Our wedding day itself could not have run more smoothly. From the fantastic Cornish celebrants to the incredible waiting staff – all recommended by Vicki. Without them the day would not have been the same – we were able to really relax and enjoy the beautiful views from the Tipi overlooking Mesmear.

Nearly a year later both family and friends bring up the perfect venue that allowed us all to have the most wonderful week in the glorious Cornwall. We will most definitely be returning – hopefully for another big celebration in the future!

Wedding - entire site booking

After booking and paying for the whole site, we were told that one of the cottages which we paid for (The Tractor Shed) was unavailable due to construction. And we were not offered any refund for this reduction in space and availability. 

Upon our arrival we found that the cottage (The Tractor Shed) which they told us was unavailable was fully available and occupied by a nice family. 

Although we found Mesmear to be beautiful and well appointed, with stunning landscapes and animals - due to our lack of space some of our group had inadequate sleeping arrangements (deflating air mattress and children size beds for adults etc). And we also had issues with the heat and found management difficult to reach and it subsequently took 2 days to get the heat back on.

Overall I am very disappointed with the customer relations at this beautiful place.

Poor Customer relations

Recently I stayed with a group that booked the whole property but we ended up paying for a cottage we did not occupy; there was a family there, nice people, but we had to bunk up together unexpectedly to make up for lost space as well. 
It IS a fantastic setting with animals and cleverly designed cottages, but the reception was cold and the temperatures inside as well. 
It's disappointing to have counted on a supportive environment and to have so little response to our needs from the owner.

I booked all 5 Luxury Cottages at Mesmear (whole complex) for our Group Stay from Oct 26th - 30th/2019 and paid in full for the rental on June 30th/19. And had the following issues;
- One month prior to our arrival Vicki Cameron (owner) contacted me to let me know that one of the cottages that we paid for (The Tractor Shed) was unavailable due to construction. My receipt clearly broke down the price per cottage and I asked for a refund several times and Vicki ignored my inquiry.
- Upon arrival I was shocked to find that the Tractor Shed was not under construction and was fully occupied by a family. 
- Also we had no heat for 2 days and Vicki was unreachable by phone and or wouldn't answer her door. Finally she responded to an email and sent someone to fix the problem.
- Vicki had guaranteed in writing that all of our group would have regular beds (not pullout coaches or air mattress) and one of the beds was an air mattress that deflated by the second night and one person had to sleep on a pull out cot.

Prior to our departure I tried to contact Vicki again via phone and knocking on her door, with no success. I sent her an email, listing our concerns and she basically ignored them.

I have never experienced anything like this before and am still in shock.



Beware!! Beware!!!

My daughter and I stayed in the Shepherds Hut for a week in August.  We had a great stay! Relaxed, cosy, clean. Vicki was so helpful and approachable. Knowledgable about the area and nothing was too much trouble.  The zip line through the orchard, feeding the pigs, using the hot tub were all highlights.  I would definitely stay again. Book directly through the company as opposed to using another site (ie pitch up)as they add on extra charges. 

Staying at mesmear meant we also got discounted rates for a boat trip with wavehunters (they also do surf lessons, fitness classes). 


Shepherds Hut stay

Had a really lovely long weekend in the Calf’s House, can’t recommend it enough, perfect for families. We visited with our 16 month old toddler. Vicki is so lovely and really helpful. Fantastic location, lovely cottage, great facilities, just fab.

Fabulous cottage, lovely touches

What an incredible weekend for our hen party! The sun was shining, the lambs were bleating and the beach was within walking distance. We had 17 ladies to accommodate so we had 4 cottages within very close proximity to each other. The cottages were each beautifully unique and so well equipped with everything we could have possibly needed. The grounds of Mesmear farm were gorgeous and Vicki was so helpful and relaxed, even allowing us to collect eggs from the chickens!  The hot-tub was an absolute highlight and we’d love to come back to enjoy the electric bikes and gym, fees the pigs and do some more exploring of the area. Thank you so very much! We would highly recommend you!
