I booked through a booking website and was daft enough not to check with trip advisor. I looked at the reviews and they seemed good. What I did not realise was they listed them by ‘most relevant’ which it would seem to be the good ones. On entering the hotel all we could smell was stale fat and cooking from the kitchen. We were told the WiFi was down and that they hoped it would be up ‘later’. The room smelt of drains and there was a plug in air freshener. The TV didn’t work properly. I need WiFi and after our third night we spoke to who I think was the owner. He said it had ‘crashed and burned’. He offered use of internet in the office but I told him I need regular access so I would be checking out. His attitude implied I was pathetic for needing constant access. I stay regularly in hotels and this is the worst I have stayed in in the uk.

Rotten time

This place is ok food is very good rooms basic but clean staff are welcoming and work hard if your working out of town this is just fine for ya parking at back plus bar all good warm and  pleasant no complaints 

arrived here probably expecting it to be as good as the last Bed and Breakfast we stayed in.how wrong can one be.First of all room very small.shower room/bathroom no expelier.only handwash.The towels were not a very healthy colour.looked like dirty white!!!
Bottom sheet on bed  i noticed had small old stains on the sheets.this wasnt noticed till next day.
Breakfast.no rice krispies.cornflakes were awful.No white bread only 50/50 they said which due to healthreasons cannot eat.i supplied my own Soya milk.Overall not a good experience and not a place we would stay at again.

not what i was expecting

This guest house has only 3 things going for it, the close proximity to the hospital, the wi fi, and the breakfast.  The single room provided was dated, smelt damp and lots of noise
When telling the member of staff I would be back at around 8pm, she said your room key fits the back door,let yourself in. It’s was dark and no street lights, past a lot of mud and rubble.
The shared bath room was in need of a deep clean, towels provided were a mucky grey colour that had seen better days. I felt very vulnerable staying here.

Very poor

Well what a fantastic place made to feel so welcome and rooms are really nice and spotless, Cant imagine why some nad reviews we have found nothing wrong with this guest house  Staff so friendly stayed 2 nights and had a meal on second night had the gammon make sure you are hungry if you have the gammon .Well thanks for a great stay and can highly recommend this guest house .

Excellent

We booked this at the last minute as we were going to see a local band in Wakefield.  It was clean an tidy and staff were helpful and welcoming.
The room was small but had an en-suite shower (lovely and hot with fantastic pressure) and toilet. A kettle and tea making facilities were provided.  The old fashioned key system meant we could come and go as we pleased without the faff of key cards.
Breakfast was lovely overall a great place to stay .

Overnight stay

Easy to book direct with owner. Staff were friendly and helpful. Close to town centre and station. Free parking at rear of property. Room was small, but clean. No toiletries provided, so make sure you take your own.

Good location and value for money

Visiting my daughter in Wakefield. Stayed one night in a single room with bathroom en suite.
Premises clean, quiet room no traffic noise room smelled slightly damp. TV  in room but towels small and grey and drafts made room chilly. 
Breakfast OK. I am pretty sure that some "guests" were actually families being housed in this guest house. Would not stay here again.

Clean convenient but...

I recently stopped here with my family and we were made to feel welcome from the moment we walked through the door to the moment we left. Close to any amenities you may need, a spotless dining room with incredible food and a bar the doesn't cost the Earth, this is all complemented well by the rooms which are cleaned daily, free parking, sheltered smoking area and free WiFi. If you're in the area and you need somewhere to stop, you can't go wrong with this great value hotel run by pleasant staff in a quiet location. I would definitely recommend this over any other in the area.

Brilliant hotel, brilliant value.

Great accommodation for those who want to visit the mines of the NCM (National Coal Mining Museum). A quiet location, on the outskirts of the town, within minutes of both the train and bus station; also, right in front of the hotel, both buses to the centre and those to Leeds stop.
