My wife and I arranged to eat at the Bay Horse Inn last night with another couple who we hadn't seen for over 10-years. All the  meals we had were excellent - piping hot and flavoursome. The landlord, barmaid and waitress were very friendly, nothing was too much trouble; particularly in the case of one of our party who had celeriac disease. The waitress provided exceptional service and was always on hand to make sure we had no empty glasses!  It's the first time we've been to this hostelry for some time now, but we'll definitely be meeting up with our friends again early in the New Year!  

A top notch meal in friendly surroundings.

With York hotel rates sky high, we decided to look slightly out of town for a dog friendly place to stay. Approximately 20minutes drive from the centre of York city centre is The Bay Horse Inn.
It really is a superb little place to both stay and dine, with good value room rates. We were given a really warm welcome upon arrival by Jon, the owner. Swiftly checked into our external accommodation which was clean and well laid out. Breakfast is included and it's fresh, good quality and cooked to order. Free parking for patrons /residents too. we dined at the pub twice during our three day stay,and the food was beautiful. Try one of Jon's curries, you won't be disappointed!
The pub welcomes all ages and is dog friendly. Roaring fires, friendly staff and beautiful food, what's not to love!

Lovely little pub run by really friendly people offering excellent value for money. Bed was super comfy and the room was nicely decorated (refurbed in 2022). Rooms are in a separate building to the pub, so no noise and the pub is located on a quiet road in a small village. The food was really nice, service was excellent and the atmosphere in the pub warm. Very busy for a Tuesday night, which was a good sign. Points to note: no hairdryer in the room and food service ends at 7.30pm on a weeknight, 8pm weekends. Room was on the chilly side, so if you like warm rooms request extra heating. I was in Room 2 and have to say the shower was only adequate. Overall though, a comfortable, friendly experience.

Lovely little pub run by friendly people

Lovely little hotel, with clean rooms, comfy beds and a modern bathrooms.  We stayed one night on a quick trip to the National Railway Museum, York.  Chose this hotel for it's value and location close to a park and ride.  We were not disappointed at all. Tasty breakfast included with the price and a friendly Yorkshire welcome from all the staff.  Would love to return in the future.  Recommended.

Whirlwind trip to York

Very pleasant overnight, while on 'family business' in York.  Room was basically brand new and spotless, I found the pillow a bit hard but that's the only minor gripe.  Food was homely and delicious, Jon was a great host.  Far nicer than staying at some faceless chain hotel!

Very good place to stay over, handy for York or Harrogate.

Had high expectations for a meal here tonight. Unfortunately shards of plastic ( which I nearly swallowed) in my curry was a first! Also squashed on a what could only have been the size of a card table extremely close to other diners on next  table. Vitually sat in their lap. Over- rated and overpriced in my opinion.

Disappointing night out

Stayed for one night. Everything we needed and more. 
Recently refurbished rooms. Clean. Even extra treats and bed for the dog. Great for a stay with your canine friend. 
Shown to our room at check in. Good living space. 
Facilities in the room prefect. 
Breakfast cooked to order. Fresh, local produce. Lovely start to the day!

Visited Christmas Eve for a drink and there was a lovely atmosphere in the pub and staff were welcoming and accommodating. 

Just a few things let the pub down really: ladies toilets (and presumably gents) could do with modernising, they’re very old fashioned, often cold and don’t smell super fresh. 
The pub interior itself does look a little tired and could just do with a refresh. 

And as much as some people may want to watch tv at the pub, it doesn’t really seem necessary to have all televisions on all the time, particularly on Christmas Eve when no one was even watching.  Maybe have one side of the bar as more of the sports area - on the right as you come in the main door? 

Nice to have a local pub in the village, could just do with a bit of TLC.

Good could be great

The pub and room were lovely. The little touch for my dog was lovely as they left her treats and some doggie bags ! I enjoyed the breakfast in the morning lovely and hot not to small or overwhelming. I also loved the bed as it was a double it was perfect for my husband and I. My son also loved his bed we all had a fab night sleep. We will definitely be staying again in the new year as it's a 2 minute drive to my parents house very ideal
