We chose the Vaquero Motel (formerly River Front Motel) after reading many reviews of other Bandera properties that mentioned noise issues. We hoped that choosing a place slightly away from the most hopping part of town might give us a more quiet experience. It probably did, but noise was still an issue. Just kind of a bass thumping from bars in town that continued until right at 10:00 pm. (I assume the city ordinance requires the music to stop then.) We also had a group in the cabin next to us that was quite loud with dogs that they allowed to run loose. That kept us from enjoying the space outside our own cabin.

On the plus side, the cabin is nicely sized with a fridge, Roku TV, comfortable bed. On the negative side, the wi-fi was painfully slow (measured at 1.5 Mbps), the TV was very finicky, and most frustrating for me was the window blinds allow a lot of light into the room. I just love a very dark room, and this wasn’t that. 

I think the Vaquero has a lot of potential, and it looks like they’ve invested in making improvements in recent months. But I would say there are still some necessary improvements to be made for it to be a really great property.

Room to improve

Me and my partner stayed at the Vaquero Motel earlier this month, visiting from the U.K and was very impressed. Tracey on reception could not be anymore helpful, very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The accommodation was spacious, very clean and close to the town. We would highly recommend.

Fantastic Stay

I met the new owners and was impressed with the updated renovations being made. It is across the road from the Medina River city park. I recommend staying here and plan on coming back. Walking distance to many great places to see and visit.

Clean, comfortable, and friendly. Little cottage that suited us well. 
Sit back and relax on the front porch or walk across the road to sit by the river.

Misterandher

We and another couple did a short road trip with Bandera and the RFM as our stop.  REALLY enjoyed ourselves as this is such a different and unique property.  The cabins look very "rustic" from the outside but are quite nice inside.  Our cabin (#1) had one of the most comfy beds and pillows ever.  Close to everything including the Medina river.  At night lots of deer dropped by as we sat on the porch.  Would definitely stay here again.

Really Enjoyed

Stayed for two nights great location. Tracey was really friendly and helpful. The room is really big and had everything we needed. Really good WiFi. Loved the stay would stay again when in the area so easy to walk along the river and the high street. 

Great time perfect location 

I arrived at the property an hour early for check-in. The room was not done. I returned in an hour and the beds were not made or towels in the room. The mattresses are very old and questionable. I love the location and the room is ok for spending a day at the river. I am dissatisfied with the way the owner handled the situation. She brought me the sheets which I had no problem putting on myself but then said she would discount my room for the night for the inconvenience and never did. Bad communication and false promises are not good business practices. Thanks anyway!

False Promises

I accidentally found this charming motel comprised of 11 stand-alone cabins in Bandera, Texas.   Lucky for me, cabin 4 was available for the night so I grabbed it.   Hyper-clean room with a charming furniture lay-out.   Even had a kitchenette, which I wasn’t expecting and was easy walking distance to dining and bars in Bandera.   I had double-knee replacement four months prior to my visit so “walking-distance” is a serious claim.   Great place to stay for a night (or a year!).


Sweet Gem

My favorite place to stay because everything is within walking distance and they love dogs.  Clean bed, bathroom, dorm fridge, and coffee pot, etc.  Reminds me of a hunter's cabin meaning very basic and no frills.  "Porch time" is a favorite, nothing but watching the geese, ducks, and deer in the park.  The staff is very friendly and accommodating.  Plus, their Shitzus are precious!  

We grilled by the river and walked to all of the local downtown spots, which are also across the street.  If you are looking for ritzy accommodations then keep driving.  If you want a nice cabin that is close to everything then this is your spot.

Cool, laid-back place to stay

The little cabins were clean inside. The bathroom is very basic. The shower could benefit from a refurbishment. The porch was nice. But, so that everybody is clear, it is not fancy at all. Rustic might be an ok description, but it doesn't have a lot cabin atmosphere for sure.
