We stayed here with extended family for our daughters baby shower. As architects we care obsessively about the place and even though we gravitate towards modern we admired and respected the lovingly careful renovation of this historic iconic home! Gardens, wrap around porch, spacious rooms all perfection. Even if you don’t have family in the neighborhood if you stay here you are a short walk to the Arnold arboretum and many great restaurants!
So happy we found this place!! Highly recommend!

Perfect! Grand and welcoming

This was the second time my wife and I stayed at the Taylor House. Our son, daughter-in-law, niece, and granddaughter also stayed the night. The occasion for the trip was to attend a family memorial service. The location in the Jamaica Plains neighborhood of Boston is very good. It is in walking distance from many good restaurants, stores, and public transportation. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. My wife and I stayed in a room one flight upstairs ( Taylor room? ) that was great! I think we stayed in it our first visit. It had ample closet and drawer space, good lighting, and a cozy & very good bathroom/stall shower. This was January and the room’s climate was pleasant. Breakfast was a few steps beyond what one would expect at a good B&B. Besides the good food and drink, the Sunday Boston Globe & NY Times were on the table! There are about 5 parking spaces on the side of the Taylor House. There is usually on street parking on the weekends. I highly recommend the Taylor House if your travels take you to or near Boston.


2nd stay at Taylor House 

Staff was extremely accomodating to me even though they had a full house  on a busy fall weekend. Rooms are very tastefully decorated. Amazing attention to every detail. But I guess I return for their piece de resistance:  breakfast. Almost wrong to call it that, since it is so much more. Each item is the best of its category. I don't even like granola, but theirs was yummy. All (especially of appreciation-the warm items) always have the freshest ingredients and are sooo good. You will not find a more comfy, cozy, delightful place to stay.

A slice of heaven

The Taylor  House was a great experience for my partner and I, as we walked into the B&B and we  where meet by one of the owners David, he made us feel right at home, and the staff was so accommodating to our needs,Daved gave us a map of Boston and gave us ideas of places to visit on our vacation and good places to eat in walking distance of the home. We expected a few muffins and coffee in the morning, we where wrong, the spread of fresh fruits and tea and coffee and hot foods that you couldn't find in any restaurant was waiting for us when we woke up, all home made. We will be back to stay with Dave and staff in the near future ..Mike and Mike

The Breakfast at the taylor house, was well over what we had excpected.

This was really an excellent fine, very good value with easy access into central Boston.  Parking is available which is great in a city, we dumped the car and didn't have to worry about it for 2 days.  The rooms are lovely, very comfortable bed, lots of art on the walls, in our room the bathroom was cosy to say the least, but functional it has the smallest washbasin I've ever seen, but had shower and loo so we managed, I think some of the other rooms had larger bathrooms than ours, other than that couldn't fault the room.
Location wise there are some nice restaurants in Jamica Plain, especially Vee Vee which we went to twice.  The train is about 15 mins walk which takes you straight into central Boston.  So it was really good, go into the centre for the attractions, but could then come back to a quieter neighbourhood on the evening.
Breakfast is a mixed bunch, everything is left on the side for you to help yourself, the cooked eggs both days were very nice (I ate them my other half not), but they were left out un-covered, selection of bread but on the second day only Gluten free which is basically cardboard if you aren't intolerant!
Whilst Dave is very hospitable, can't really say the same for Darryl, didn't really have much to say and each morning when we came down for breakfast he was sat in the middle of the table with his newspaper spread out and the dog lying by his side.  Didn't make any attempt to move so that he guests had space to eat their breakfast which to be honest I didn't think was very good ............. but apart from that would definitely recommend this B&B ... lovely

Excellent Find ... Lovely B&B

We stayed at this establishment for 3 nights. Our room with en suite shower room was comfortable but rather tired & shabby.
The breakfast was very good on mornings 1 & 2 - arriving at 8am everything including home cooked dishes were freshly prepared. Guests serve themselves & are then expected to clear their used plates/ cutlery & mugs away.
On day 3 we arrived at 9am to find little in the way of hot food, albeit breakfast was meant to be available until 10am? We served ourselves what was left of the remaining hot option, which we then reheated in the microwave as it was cold. 
Hospitality in general was somewhat lacking. Unless we made the effort to converse there was no response. I note other reviewers have made similar comments.
The cost was around $200 per night - not exactly cheap - I had expected better.

Comfortable Stay But Hospitality Somewhat Lacking

My husband and I stayed at Taylor House while visiting relatives in the area. There are some strong positives about this B&B: great location, beautiful exterior and courtyard, parking behind the B&B (huge plus), generally quiet room, comfortable bed, and well-prepared breakfast.
Our room and bathroom were spacious. The lighting seemed a little inadequate for the size of the rooms. We needed more light at night. The room was a little dusty, and one of the glasses in the room was not clean, had lipstick on the rim. There was minimal cleaning offered for the room while we were there, generally just the bed made. We  finally had to request fresh towels. I would recommend getting a room with a regular shower. The bathroom attached to our room had a claw tub with a shower conversion on it. It was a little difficult to maneuver, especially getting in and out.
I am accustomed to B&Bs in the South which are beautifully decorated downstairs and offer seating areas to guests. That was not the case with this B&B. One of the rooms appeared to be in transition with curtains in the process of being hung. The downstairs was not very inviting. We sat in the courtyard one evening, which was nice.
There are expanded hours for breakfast, which is “come and go.” They accommodated my vegan dietary restrictions. For the first two days, there was a lentil salad which was seasoned well, very tasty. The eggplant was well-prepared also, served another day. Frankly I would have preferred a vegan breakfast bread since those vegetables lend themselves more to a lunch or dinner meal. The last day the breakfast attendant scolded me for not eating the prepared dish the third day I was there. We had decided to eat out with family, that morning. I I was not aware of a way to communicate with the staff because they did not make a regular appearance at breakfast: food was set out on the cabinet in the morning. There should be a procedure in place to communicate with the staff in this situation. The same lentil dish was served the first two mornings, and i suspected it would make an appearance the third day. Breakfast staff would pass through, but did not engage the guests in conversation, not friendly.. There are also two dogs which wander through the breakfast area in the morning. The dust motes were abundant whenever they walked through the kitchen/dining area.
My last point: per other reviews, this establishment could use more intentional hospitality. Dave was very friendly when we checked in, but we did not see or interact with him daily. The other two men were not as friendly., especially the breakfast attendant, who was in and out. I am accustomed to B&B hosts who engage guests in conversation and inquire about the guests’ stay. We paid over $200 per night , and while this B&B was satisfactory for our purposes, our stay could have been more pleasant with more gracious hospitality.

Charming property, could use more hospitality

This B&B has a lot to offer: the ideal location in the quiet residential area of Jamaica Plains with the nice shops and restaurants, the bus and subway connections to downtown and the proximity to the park with the Jamaica Pond. But I think this stylish (though somewhat dark) house in itself has seen better days. Some of our flaws are so important that I would like to recommend staying: 1) Friendliness is a rare asset to the innkeepers who show up little, and even more to their appetizers. Somehow, the impression of being a nuisance to guests was that it was more than a nuisance.

This is unacceptable.

David Elliott and Daryl Bichel run a first class operation. The B&B provides private bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms along with excellent decor in a beautifully restored home. Daryl who runs a catering business and is a marvelous cook provides the morning hot meals along with assorted breads and cereals. The location is perfect, on site parking, excellent staff and accommodations.

Wonderful B&B, great location, comfortable accommodations and a most excellent breakfast

Taylor House is a lovely Victorian filled with antiques and art.  Located in a very nice residential area, it is a short walk to a drug store and casual eateries.  They serve a fabulous breakfast! On my latest visit they served fresh fruit,yogurt,homemade granola, scrambled eggs with cheese, home fries and warm asparagus spears.  The two owners are simply wonderful!  I needed to find a "taxi" home and Dave arranged the whole thing - including looking for Lyft and Uber coupons, checking the best price and then correcting a credit card snafu...all with a smile!  You won't find a better spot!
