Excellent hotel out in the boonies.  Nice rooms, clean towels and sheets, and excellent staff.
Definitely will go again!!

Great place to stay!!

My 6-year-old daughter and I needed help. Our car was totaled and we were stranded in the trucker's lounge of a convenience store in the snowy mountains of a remote San Diego town. Two hours prior, our family of four had been in a rollover accident, and my wife and 9-year-old son were in an ambulance rushing to a San Diego children's hospital. We were a state away from our home, family, and friends and we were entirely out of options.

It was already dark and the winter storm which caused our accident had only worsened. Encumbered with a week's-vacation-worth of belongings, my little girl and I had nowhere to go and nobody to call. The insurance company was of no assistance. There were no rental cars. There was no ride sharing. It was late, we were in the middle of nowhere, and there was nothing anyone could do. After this terrible and traumatic day, we had no choice but to prepare for a long night on some well-worn couches.

At some point during everything, somebody shared that there was a small motel about 6 miles away. We had no way of getting there, but nonetheless, I called the Back Country Inn to see if they could help. Sam, the manager (and owner?) answered promptly, and after sharing his room availability, I explained our situation. More than anything, I told him that we desperately needed somebody with a truck to come collect us and our many belongings. He took my name and number and said he'd call me back.

True to his word, the phone rang a few minutes later. Sam had asked around and found Jason. The two of them arrived in Jason's pickup about 20 minutes later. By that time, it was nearing 9pm, the snow was becoming serious, and roads were being closed. We quickly loaded the truck, piled in, and Jason carefully drove us to the Inn.

When we arrived, I didn't know what to expect, but it didn't matter. We got to the room, and it was perfect - quiet, clean, and comfortable. In spite of the snow, Sam and Jason even helped me to unload and gave us time to get settled! The TV, refrigerator, and microwave all worked well and were put to quick use. My daughter took a bath - the tub was clean and the water was hot. Even during the storm, the WiFi worked well enough for her to stream some Netflix. At that point, for us, we had everything we needed and nothing else mattered - a 5 star luxury resort wouldn't have felt any better.

We stayed for the one night and most of the next day before a friend-of-a-friend graciously drove us back to San Diego to reunite our family. It was a short visit, but meant so much. Sam and Jason's willingness to actually take action and help two complete strangers will be with me for the rest of my life.

I stayed in the handicapped room due to foot problems. The bed had a Memory Foam  topping it. I had a good night's rest. The refrigerator did a good job on my traveling food. The heater worked well as it was a cold night. The handicapped shower had plenty of safety bars and worked well for my disability.

Good Place to Rest

Four of us arrived at 6:30 p.m. with two rooms booked on orbitz. Waited for 10 minutes or so for the front desk person. He said we couldnt check in because the rooms would not be cleaned until 3 p.m. We told him it was 6:30 and he stared at us and decided to give us the keys   I gave him the orbitz paperwork but orbitz was told we never showed up. Scary place.. women travelling alone should stay away.  There was also a restaurant nearby and that guy told us there was nothing in town.

This place reminds me of the 70's. Basic but clean and warm on a February night. Queen bed, Motel 6 style toiletries, Direct TV and adequate internet. No elevator, but quiet even on the highway side. Price is right.

Back to the 70's

We stayed at this motel because of its location.  It is nearly the only motel between San Diego and El Centro on Hwy 8.  It is also close to the border crossing at Tecate.  This motel appeared to be fairly clean.  The room was fairly clean, it had amenities like wi-fi, extended TV channels, etc.  I was just totally grossed out when I turned down the bed and found hair on the sheets that was not ours.  Fortunately, we travel prepared if we have to use our own bedding!!  Other than the hair, it wasn't that bad, except that maybe the energy was bad or something.  Bad juju.  Can't define it.  Weird!  The office reeked of booze when I went in to register, also.  We were the only guests staying there and there were 3 guys in the office when I registered.  Didn't really feel safe!  Would drive farther to not stay here again.

Strange place

I was caught without a hotel room on an incredibly busy weekend in San Diego and had the bright idea to head east on I8 thinking I'd find lots of roadside motels. That did not happen. I was over 60 miles from San Diego before this Motel sign saved me--I was extremely tired and kind of freaked out being out in the middle of nowhere. Mike at the front desk greeted me warmly, and had a wonderful upstairs room for me. Once I calmed down from the stressful adventure I was thrilled with my back country accommodations. When I started looking for an available motel room in SD,  I certainly had no intentions of visiting BOULEVARD, Ca, but this place will always have a place in my heart. Thank you Back Country Inn! This Little Motel Is Fantastic

We've stayed at this motel twice now and it serves the purpose.  We stay here the night before crossing the MX border at Tecate for our annual drive down Baja.  The Motel is just off Hwy 8 and Hwy 94 which takes you to the border.  Our room had 2 queen beds, small refrig, microwave and flat screen TV.  The room was decent sized and clean.  Price was moderate.  Coffee was available at 5:00AM as we were hitting the road early.  There used to be an Italian restaurant nearby but it was closed and for sale.  The only place to get something to eat is either a small store close by or a Subway approx. 9 miles east on Hwy 8.  There is a 24 hour Subway and gas station on the way to Tecate as well to pick up breakfast and gas if necessary.

There are few choices for accommodation in this area. This spot offers the required essential amenities: microwave, WiFi, fridge and TV. It is easy to find and the staff provide good service. Coffee is available after 9 a.m. There is a small store nearby and a gas station and Subway about 10 miles away. There are some food options a bit further on. This hotel has seen better days and needs a good cleaning and interior painting. Quite expensive for convenience. Also known as the Lux Inn.
