Do not go near this place especially alone do not wander alone at night. This was ancient burial ground! Back in 1830 the men were there for the gold mines! But they did horrible things to the woman! It’s haunted

PLEASE STAY AWAY!

I love this lodge, it has soo much history to it pictures of its growth since the 1850's. if you are a skier or a snowboarder then this is the place for you. it is a simple lodge from a much simpler time. you have the option of having a bathroom /shower in your room, or a shared bathroom dorm style in the hallway. you get a clean bed, clean linens, personal heaters, and a view of either the mountainside river, or the front of the building and highway. the GIANT fireplace downstairs in the lobby is extremely inviting. This is also the closest lodging to Sierra-at-tahoe. its only a 10min drive to the resort. cant beat that. they also have a full kitchen that can cook for you even during Covid restrictions. ( to-go to eat in your room). when no restrictions, there is a bar, entertainment area, pool table, and even ballroom or dancefloor. Mike the owner is hillarious and will treat you exactly as you treat his hotel and other staff, in everyone of our experiences he is extremely polite, helpful, able to resolve any online booking issues with a smile. there is also a full rental area downstairs for skiing and snowboarding, waxing and repairs too!! if you are looking for a plush 5 star hotel with snooty service, this is not your place, dont stop by unless you have a great attitude and can lift your own baggage. but if you are a respectful person looking to really enjoy your stay in a big beautiful resort with history going back to 1850's, this is your place. i have been here dozens of times, and i recommend this place to ALL of my friends and family. GREAT HISTORICAL LODGE. closest to Sierra-at-tahoe

This lodge is very good for what it is: a quirky, old property in more or less the middle of nowhere.  If you need a basic home base for Tahoe area hikes, it's great.  The space has a ton of character.  Our room (two double beds with a bathroom) was clean, comfortable, and remarkably quiet (we were quite near a family and a group of drunk dudes, and couldn't really hear either of them).

Some of the common spaces are a bit worn, but that's part of the charm -- along with the taxidermied bear and *giant* bar!  The main inconvenience was that the kitchen was out of many menu items.  The kitchen also opened a bit late and closed a bit early for me, but it was manageable with some planning.  

Go in with the right mindset and you will not be disappointed!

An experience!

Beyond Deferred maintenance, it's really in  state of disrepair.  Carpet is worn to h the bone. Beds are horrible.  Place is so-so clean.  Our first room accross in the annex had no running cold water and we could not flush the toilet. Staff is friendly and moved us into the main lodge.  No air conditioning and rooms are hot I. Summer requiring one to open the unscreened windows which allows bugs and significant road noise on front rooms. If you stay here, get the river side and take a sleeping pill. You'll need it.



In very poor condition. Noisy and hot.

My 4 y/o daughter and I stopped in to use the bathroom and get a coffee at the restaurant.  They would not let us use the bathroom.  I told them that my daughter was nearing an accident and could we use the employee bathroom.  He continued to be rude and turn us away.  Im sure a lodge this size has reasonable bathroom facilities.  My daughter had to relieve herself in the parking lot.  

DO NOT STOP BY THIS PLACE!!!!

We stayed over at the Strawberry Lodge and will say up front that the room was available when we needed it, the accommodations near where we needed to be, and the setting enjoyable. The staff was nice enough and overall we had a good weekend. That said, there were a number of issues with the condition of the room that should have been addressed before we got there, and taken care of while there. For example, there was a hole in the double pane window with sharp edges (we didn't go near it but others might). It had been repaired and someone had pulled the tape off. This may have contributed to the noise level which might have been lower had the repair done. Also, there was a serious running faucet 24/7 that could only be stopped by turning off the supply valve. The shower water was more than adequate, with lots of warm water, but the toilet was a 2-3 flusher to fully empty. We stayed 2.5 days but the room was never made up, the trash never emptied nor the towels replaced. The owner or attendant did remember to leave an envelope for tips tho. Also, the Wi-Fi was a bit spotty but met our needs.  The accommodations were consistent with the price ($95/night) and all that we experienced would not deter me from staying again but for others, know before you go.

Know before you go, nice folks running it but...

Omg the location!!! Just minutes past the snow line, if you come during a snow storm you will have the most magical winter wonderland without journeying all the way to Tahoe. The grounds are HUGE with a beautiful creek running out back. 

Great location. Weird funny old building. Staff was great even though there was only three in whole hotel and it was crazy busy. We were in no rush. We got a great room. GREAT. pay for a room with your own bath. Historic. Memorable. Food was good. Pool table was only $1 and fun. Lodge atmosphere festive and loud. Rooms are rustic and weird. We were totally happy with all the weird stuff about the room and appreciate the amount of work that goes into running an “adventure” lodge like this with thousands of families trampling through all the time. 

Beds..... were..... AWFUL. We’re at a hotel fundamentally to sleep, so...... Even very light children can feel spots worn down..... If the hotel just updated the beds, this would be the most AMAZING hotel, such a great quirky place.

Such a quirky rustic awesome place but needs new beds!!! 

The Strawberry Lodge is one of those special places that you'll want to keep returning to. I get a warm, fuzzy feeling inside every time my husband and I arrive. When you walk in, it feels like home, and in the Winter there's always a welcoming fire going. It's a historical lodge and "rustic", but that just adds to it's charm.  It's a great place to crash after a day of skiing or hiking. We love hanging out in the bar, and the food is decent.  All the employees have been friendly and helpful. If you are looking for a modern 5 star resort,continue on up to the Lake, and have fun paying 3-times the price. The Strawberry Lodge is no frills, and definitely not perfect, but I love it and wouldn't stay anywhere else.

My happy place

Strawberry is a small town on South Lake Tahoe in Nevada. It's very beautiful in the countryside, for hiking and climbing, unfortunately the Strawberry Lodge has gotten a bit old! the burger was not delicious and the water was served in plastic cups, sorry️️️

This place was hard to locate even though we had google it.  We knew we  were going the wrong direction when we saw Kit Carson Pass as we had to look out for Luther Pass which was the first landmark going into Kyburz.  We had to turn around to find the lodge before dark and once we reached Twin Bridge we were relieved.  

The room assigned to us was on the top floor and it was the first room next to the shared bathroom.  Interior of the room including the furniture was old and tired looking and one of the table lamps was not working.  The queen bed was uncomfortable and what made it worst was the pillows.  The nice thing was the Management had separate bathrooms, one for the Men and one for the Ladies in the middle of the hallway.  Staff at the desk and the lady at the restaurant were friendly.  We had dinner and breakfast the next morning before we drove off to Lee Vining.  The Management seriously need to give the restaurant and all guest rooms a face lift as it is such a pretty place with a great history. It will be a great shame to see it go to the dogs!
