We celebrated our 36th wedding anniversary at the Inn.  We have driven by it hundreds of times over the years and each time we were oblivious to its existence as we had our bag of goodies from Gayles and headed to the beach to indulge and watch the surfers!  We are so happy we found the Inn and we plan to be back many more times.  We were greeted in the driveway by Peggy who assisted us with parking our long vehicle.  Our room was very spacious with the fireplace already on when we entered.  The cheese and wine hour was a great social event sharing time with our fellow guests.  Then onto Caruso's for dinner and when we returned freshly baked chocolate cookies were waiting for us!  Breakfast was brought to the room on a cart and was delicious.  Highly recommend this gem, especially for those who have been driving by for years!

Welcoming property and staff!

This is our third trip to the Inn at Depot hill. It's always a  pleasure.  The rooms are unique, clean and comfortable.  The owner, Sagar is super friendly, helpful and obliging.  This is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the Bay Area, to relax and unwind. Highly recommended.
We will most certainly be coming back for more visits.

Highly recommended small hotel with unique rooms.

We have stayed here so many times, I have lost count. Why have we?!! It’s the only place to stay. Seriously! We used to live in this city for 30 years. We know all the hotels in the area and surrounding small cities.  We have stayed at several, even the upscale ones.  NOTHING compares to the Inn at Depot Hill.  

ROOM:  Beautiful, spotless, quality, quiet, comfortable bed, fireplace, chairs to relax in. Big, well-lit bathroom,  Fluffy linens.  

FOOD: Breakfast in the room was fabulous - delivered on a tray, beautifully laid out, nice linens, big pot of very fresh brewed coffee, food was piping hot every day. The two gals that work in the kitchen have been here for over 20 years and they have it dialed in to make it a delightful and tasty experience for guests.
There are afternoon tasty snacks set out. 

STAFF:  Can’t say enough good things.  They are wonderful, they care and will get you anything if you need it.  A new addition is Ashley (spelling?). She has had vast experience in huge hotel chains and her attention to detail shows.  Delightful, charming, wants to make sure you have everything you need.

OWNER:  This is a person who knows how to manage an Inn, is meticulously organized and one of the kindest folks I have ever met.  Wants to be sure your stay is everything you expected and you always get more than you asked for in terms of great service, recommendations. We need to clone this person! 

Don’t trouble yourself with staying at a huge hotel where the service can be spotty at best.  This place is close to the beach, a great bakery with a lot of food choices…a LOT.   Minutes from downtown Capitola.
I would stay her once a month if I could.  Enjoy!

Stay here!  Nowhere else!

This was the second time staying at this warm, welcoming Inn. I’d move in if I could!  Each room is unique and beautiful. The staff is friendly and helpful.  The Manager Sagar goes way above and beyond (and with a smile) to make sure your stay is perfect.  Highly recommend a stay at The Inn at Depot Hill!

Amazing Inn, Perfect Location

First I have never stayed at a Bed and Breakfast before so I was unsure of what to expect.  My wife had stayed here many times and had painted a glorious picture of the place, it did not disappoint.  Staff was wonderful, very personable, and helpful.  We had the Portofino room which was tastefully decorated and has the fluffiest four poster bed I have ever experienced. All of the pillows were overstuffed feather pillows which were super comfy.  Food was also wonderful, every day is something different and on our last day I had one of the best eggs benedict I have had in a very long time. 
The only issue we had was with finding enough outlets to plug in all of our electronics so we will bring a power strip on our next visit.      

A true gem in Capitola

I can’t say enough wonderful things about this place.  We lived in this town for 30 years, have since moved away and have stayed in various hotels when we return.  Nothing, I mean nothing compares to the quality and uniqueness of this place.  It is spotless, charming, close to shopping, dining, beach.  The owner is one of the nicest, kindest folks I have ever met.  It is extremely important to him that his guests are very well cared for and he doesn’t miss anything.  

We have stayed in multiple Inns in many different cities and this one tops them all.  It is private, quiet and the rooms are so lovely that you wish you could stay a month!  We wouldn’t stay anywhere else.

The breakfast presentation is very beautiful and the food is fresh, so yummy and every bite leaves you wanting more.  The coffee is very high quality, brewed fresh every morning and delivered to your room nice and hot.

There is a private courtyard with a small pool, beautiful landscaping, lots of seating and perfect for sitting and reading.

The staff is wonderful and make sure the room is impeccable for each guest.  I recommend this place to every adult wanting to have a wonderful, memorable experience.

Exactly what a guest needs!

This place is a delight. We arrived and had no problems getting to our room. The room (Paris) was stunning. Spacious room that had a lot of little things that make you feel pampered. It is located in walking distance to the town. We had dinner at Shodowbrook - which I would highly recommend. The staff were pleasant and the breakfast the next morning was delicous.

Wonderful anniversary stay

This place is truly a gem! It is perfectly appointed for couples who want to escape from the hustle and bustle of California travel. We stopped here on our trip up the coast and were immediately in love when greeted at the door and escorted to our room. We stayed in the Sissinghurst, a perfect room with a courtyard and private hot tub outdoors. We enjoyed happy hour with wine and cheese and then walked down the hill to Capitola wharf for dinner. We stayed until the very last minute of checkout because the room was so luxurious and inviting. The breakfast which was served to us in our room was delicious and elegant. We will be back, for certain, to stay in another room.

Romantic Gem

Have never been treated in such a unprofessional manner in my life. We had multiple instances where we tried to contact the hotel and did not reach anybody. When I mentioned this later to the manager Sagar I was told that this was my fault as I needed to leave a voicemail. This voicemail policy is nowhere on the site. We had a unfortunate family circumstance where we were unable to make the reservation as we needed to be home to support my parents. I called the hotel twice and got no pickup in the morning. I called again and reached a lady at the reception desk, I voiced to her that I would like to see if cancellation is possible, and was told the account had already been charged for my full stay. I told her that this charge was not communicated to me but that I would go through with the reservation if we were not able to get our money back. I stated that I was upset at the lack of communication/phone pick up in general with the Inn. I was told that the manager Sagar would call me back. When I was called by Sagar, he was immediately aggressive on the phone and accused me of telling "everybody" that he was poor at communication. He told me that we would not get a refund for this, I told him that the manner in which he was speaking to me was very aggressive, I asked him  to keep things professional. I was then told that I should be "grateful that he even called because he is supposed to be off right now" He then said because I was complaining he wanted to refuse service and threatened to cancel our reservation and withhold our money since he already charged the card, he wanted to deny us service and and essentially STEAL our $1.4k dollars anyway?! He kept berating me on the phone for bothering him during his time off. I told him that I was not informed that he was off duty, and that it is not my fault that he decided to call on his break. In a nasty tone he then sarcastically responded to me saying that it is not “his responsibility that I had a family situation”. To someone who is dealing with so much stress trying to support my parents to hear my situation be referred to in such a callous and unempathetic manner was really heartbreaking.   I had to repeatedly ask Sagar throughout the conversation to stop verbally attacking me. Just horrifying behavior. He told me that we would be staying for 3 whole days and he didn't want to interact with us, so we might as well pay and not show up. I have never heard of a hotel refusing service and charging you despite never even starting your stay.  He finally apologized for being "aggressive to me right off the bat" to which I responded that his phone call was a negative experience, and then he snapped back that "he apologized already".  His behavior was very erratic as he went from verbally attacking me to promising me that “I’m the nicest guy you will ever meet” to snapping at me again, his manner of speaking was really chaotic and unsettling. If a customer has a complaint, you should listen, not attack them and threaten them. 

Given no other choice we made the trek out to the Inn. Upon arriving at the Inn there was no parking except a very tight parallel parking space. I tried my best to park but part of my car was sticking out slightly so I didn’t hit the car behind me (I did not block the driveway at all.) First thing the next morning I woke to a text from Sagar asking to repark, no checking in with a “hope you are enjoying your stay/room” just a straight you need to repark your car and come sign paperwork. I get that you would like us to move our car but we are still guests paying $1.4K to stay here and should be treated with hospitality. The lack of basic hospitality is appalling. The whole stay we were very uncomfortable most times we would use the back door to leave to avoid Sagar and despite the many issues with our room we didn’t feel comfortable letting anyone know because of Sagar’s reaction. It felt like we were walking on eggshells the whole time. 

This is not an isolated incident by the looks of it. Looking through the other reviews  I have found multiple talking about how Sagar repeatedly raised his voice at guests and how he behaves aggressively. I’m shocked that upper level management has not done anything to address this behavior and has continued to allow this man to bully customers. 

In terms of the accommodations, we stayed in the Portofino room, the room was spacious but had a musty scent, possibly due to the old carpeting. The walls are paper thin, so forget about sleeping in as in the mornings you can hear everybody in the lobby, starting at 7:15 am they make breakfast so you hear the clatter of plates and pans, every step the upstairs neighbor makes you can hear as well. The private jacuzzi is nice but it’s also basically just a bathtub in the backyard so it has no lighting, if you want to soak at night do so at your own risk because there is no lighting inside or around the tub and it’s in a dark enclosed gazebo so the patio light doesn’t reach inside, be careful you may slip. The bed is very old and creaks every time you roll over, very difficult to sleep on it. 

Overall not what I expected given that we are paying top dollar for this experience.  We spent over $1,400 at this establishment and got a mediocre room and were treated with a lack of basic hospitality. Especially that incident with Sagar. I would have been treated with more professionalism by a manager at a Motel 6. Instead of listening and empathizing with a customer who has called in with a complaint this manager berated me and threatened that he would  refuse me a room while still charging me in full, essentially stealing my $1,400. Clearly upper management doesn’t care because multiple people have had similar experiences with Sagar in the past (he’s even yelled at a customer for asking for more vegan options for breakfast) given the way Sagar acted with me on the phone it seems no action was taken to train him in basic anger management and client service relations. As we left, another couple was complaining about the lack of communication they had with the Inn as well. If the Inn at Depot Hill wants to charge so much for their stay I would expect them to step it up both in their client service representatives and in their overall rooming accommodations.

We spent two lovely nights at Inn at Depot Hill. The location was perfect. We were very pleased with our room and the amenities. Both breakfasts were delicious and wine & hors d'oevres were a treat. 

We will definitely make a return visit.
