Our family of 4 (including two teenage daughters) had an absolutely AMAZING experience here.  Kurt and Kana are fantastic hosts and the view from our Pacific room and balcony was spectacular.  We loved the fresh fruit and Kona coffee along with advice and stories.  Truly a magical place.  A great place to rest after a full day of exploring. We wish we could have stayed longer.  

Connections: to people and nature

Family stay (4 people) for 4 nights. This stay will remain one of the best memories of our trip to Hawaii. The setting is sublime. We had the Pacific Room with a large balcony that offers breathtaking views of the ocean (and to the starry night sky) and a table and chairs to eat outside, plus other amenities. Breakfast is also a great time with dishes cooked by Kana and fruit from the farm and coffee prepared by Kurt, and still this ocean view that I never tire of. The atmosphere is very pleasant because, on the one hand, we place Kurt, when possible, with other guests, and, on the other hand, we can have a chat room early to tell a story (sically, we enjoyed the lunch), but we also have the opportunity to have a nice lunch with our guests (sically, we enjoyed the coffee and the coffee from the park), and we have to enjoy a nice trip back to the park.

A Refuge of Peace at the Beautiful Edge of the World

We stayed in the Crows Nest room. Very comfortable room, the mini fridge was a great addition, loved having the windows and patio door open the whole stay, the sounds of the frogs at night was so relaxing, unbeatable views and sunsets. Kana made the most amazing breakfasts, each served with fresh fruit, coffee or tea. We'd start each morning with a plan and Kurt would suggest additional sites or stops. He never steered us wrong, we had amazing adventures each day. The road has been mentioned several times but follow Kurt's instructions, take your time and you'll have no issues. Wouldn't stay anywhere else on the island, absolute perfection! 

Best Place to Stay

Great view from the Kona hillside in the Pacific Room.  Huge room, huge bathroom, huge covered porch.  Room was well maintained and in good working order.  Very comfortable bed.  Great breakfast by Kana each day.  Wildlife sounds to lull you to sleep each night.  And an interesting array of guests to engage. Plenty of good restaurants and activities in the area.  Take care on the road down the hill; it’s not for the faint of heart.

Great B&B on the Kona Hillside

We stayed 8 nights with Kurt, Kona & Jenna in the “Nut Room”. Pros: Lovely host family: Kurt will ask your preferences and guide you to adventures to match; Kona makes a different, delicious breakfast every day (pancakes, French toast, or eggs with toast and homemade jam, always with 3 kinds of fresh fruit off their property and homemade coffee). Home is scrupulously clean and well-outfitted (shared tv room, kitchen; each guest room has own bathroom and fridge, 2 of 3 rooms have private lanais). Excellent value. Perfect central location: Captain Cook, Two-Step & other beaches are 10 minutes away; Kailua-Kona is 30 min; Hilo 60 & Volcanoes 90. Property itself is a working coffee & macadamia nut farm with oranges, bananas, starfruit, papaya & more. Wrap-around shared lanai has killer views, breezes and lounge chairs. Hosts can lend you beach towels, picnic coolers & snorkel gear. Good WiFi throughout the home, including lanai & rooms. Cons: this is not a generic hotel, so don’t expect resort landscaping, a swimming pool or walking distance to beach. Nighttime can be noisy: you’ll hear chickens, coquí frogs and even rooting pigs (which we found charming; if you want silence, bring earplugs). The long shared driveway to the B&B is “jungly” on both sides, although paved and well-signed (Kurt will email you directions; use them - Google Maps worked for us, too). This is a family home (the host family lives downstairs) so it’s not as private as an anonymous hotel. Conclusion: as with all travel (literally and metaphorically), knowing who you are and what you want will hugely increase your satisfaction. The Edge B&B is accurately and fully advertised on TripAdvisor (including in photos). We knew we wanted a comfy, friendly home that was both rural and centrally located - and we are so, so happy with what we experienced. Thank you, K&K! Staying in your home was a huge part of our wonderful vacation.

Homey home base for adventures; great value; knowledgeable, kind hosts

This was our first visit to Hawai’i and the first part of our trip. We could not have chosen better. Very comfortable accommodations overlooking beautiful Kealakekua Bay and just a short drive to the island’s best snorkeling. But the best part of our stay were our hosts Kurt and Kana. So warm and welcoming. Kurt was very generous with his time and gave us great tips for exploring not only the South Kona area but the entire island. And Kana’s breakfasts were wonderful.

Beautiful  edge of the World 

This is a nice B & B in Captain Cook with just 3 rooms. I was the only guest during my stay. Breakfast was top-notch and served on the lanai with a beautiful view of the ocean. Guests have access to a refrigerator, but not to a kitchen so other meals must be eaten out or brought in.
Getting there is not to be attempted on your own. The owner will meet you at the shopping center nearby (which has a nice grocery store) and drive you to the house. The road is windy, steep, and muddy, and there are wild pigs and chickens sometimes. 
The chickens are why I probably wouldn't stay here again. They start crowing before dawn, continue for hours, and there are many of them. I'm a heavy sleeper, but even with earplugs I couldn't drown them out, probably because they were right outside the house.

Michelle and I can't say enough nice things about our stay here.Kurt and Kana were wonderful hosts.Kurt was extremely informative about great experiences on the island for first time vistors.Our room was very clean and comfortable and the views from the porch area were incredible.Breakfast served every morning was full of fresh fruit grown on their property with either eggs or macadamia nut pancakes.Everything was so delicious.The Kona coffee grown on the property was the best we ever had.The yard and grounds were beautiful with all the fruits and flowering plants.We can not wait to return to this  lovely place

Fantastic

Just wow! the place and the view are fabulous, immersed in a plantation of macadamia nuts and coffee, you'll admire the entire coastline and the unique sunsets in the world. The room is very clean and with everything you need. The way to get there is beautiful, and it was easy to get there, despite the heavy rain! Besides, my husband and I were greeted by the owners, two very kind people, very available and interesting. They gave us a lot of advice and also knowing that we were on our honeymoon, for breakfast, they have a little party for us with the other guests! The breakfast is simply divine, all the ingredients are their production. Usually on vacation we prefer to stay alone with Kurt, but his wife and we really feel at home without ever having to come back!
