I made the mistake of purchasing the stay through trip advisor, had I been at hotel desk and seen/smelled the room, I would have requested my money back.  The lobby leads one to believe that this is a nice hotel, it isn’t. My room was upstairs, no elevator, so carry your bags up, stairwell smelled like an electrical fire, no idea what that was from, and you need a room key to access stairwell, which starts up from inside entrance foyer, so that didn’t give me a warm and fuzzy as regards my car in parking lot.  The 1970’s era couch smelled so bad from disinfectant I now know what “cloying” means, smell lingered in my mouth and throat, tub was so filthy I wished I had shower shoes, the A/C unit worked, but failed to cool the room when set on cold all night. The bathrooms have dispensers instead of bottles of soap and shampoo, great idea when they work, one didn’t. Found TV remote didn’t work when I got to room, nor had they given me WiFi password, called front desk, no answer, left message, never heard back. Pretty much a theme there, when I checked in, I asked about coffee in morning, was told I had coffee maker in room, but no, I did not. The idea of customer service here is a joke, didn’t even give me a room receipt and wouldn’t assign points for the stay. Red Roof used to be a go to for me when traveling, now I don’t dare make a reservation without seeing the place first, this place is giving the franchise a really bad name.

Bad, really bad, in all aspects

This average budget hotel could use some cosmetic and landscaping upgrades although the room was fine. There was also a smell throughout the hotel but it was acceptable. The internet was not a strong signal but was somewhat usable. I inquired at the desk and they said that issue was being worked on. It looks like the hotel has some long term guests living there.

How do I say dirty?  Bathtub and toilet were both filthy.  The bathroom floors were caked with dirt in all the corners and the wood floors in the bedroom had not been swept.  I stayed for 7 nights because I had prepaid.  My first stop was the grocery store to buy Clorox wipes to clean as much as I could.  There are no services, bed never made, towels not refreshed.  I had to go to the front desk to request these items.

Dirty

Based on other reviews I expected poor service but, the girl working the desk let us check in a few minutes early as a storm was quickly approaching.
Price was reasonable. Everything was mostly clean - pretty worn but, not too many issues. Breakfast was lame. 

Treated well 

I would have preferred a Best Western but chose the Red Roof in Vernon because it was convenient to the major thorough fare and on the east side of Hartford since the following day we were heading to MA. I'm afraid I didn't like the Red Roof. I always forget they don't have elevators going to the second floor. We were carrying a heavy suitcase and being in my 70's, I'd definitely look for one. We went to our room and by 10 p.m. were heading to bed. I wanted to check the internet quickly on my computer, however, I wasn't given a user or pw to get onto the web. In order to get it I found I'd have to back downstairs to the front lobby since there was no phone in the room. Needless to say I was disappointed in my choice.

Trip to New England

So I booked a room. Got to the room about 830pm. Mind you check in is at 3pm. Turn the Tv on and got a pink screen. Tried turning it on a few times. Nothing. So i call the front desk and guy says ill be right up. He gets to the room tries to fix it but he couldnt then he says sorry but the Tv and Cable dont work today. So i replied well thats not acceptable. We need a diff room or refund. Tells me no other room available. They were sold out. He goes back downstairs and a girl calls the room n tells me the same thing about how the cable dosent work. I answered so you guys dont check your rooms before guest show up. Literally gives me an attitude and says well we do check out rooms but the day before. Also says it worked yesterday so idk. I answered thats not acceptable once again she answers well idk what to tell you. We cant fix it and theres no Manager here. Ill call you if a Manager calls back and hangs up on me. I go downstairs and said hey thats very rude n unprofessional. She says well i told you it dont work idk what to tell you. You can just check out and well refund you if my Manager says its okay. Then goes on and says now u can leave the property or ill have to call the police and have you escorted. I was shocked over an issue that has nothing to do with me over cable not working. Then she leaves the front desk and says i dont give a s*** what you do but you have to go. I have Never ever been treated so rotten and spoken to that way any hotel ive stayed at. I TRULY DO NOT RECOMMEND STAYING HERE Unless your ready for the poor customer service and mistreated.

Rude/Disrespectful/Horrible Place Overall

This hotel was over-rated. I’ve stayed here a couple of times before but unfortunately the investment in comfort isn’t apparent since maybe 1999. Rooms are somewhat clean though the floor of the shower was gross.

Pillows are made out of wood and the mattress in its heyday was about 8 inches thick, now both are somewhat over worn. Nice to see the owners display of wealth on check in, a little less wealth and a little more investment in comfort would bring this up to the standard of other Red Roof Inns,

Not even a Red Roof means this place must have changed names to protect the guilty.

I have had a very pleasant stay here. The Hotel is great, clean and the owner's and staff are a very pleasant and welcoming. It has been a pleasure staying here and as my trips bring me this way frequently will stay again.

Client

No refrigerator, no microwave, extremely outdated, sink drains very slowly, tub was gross looking (opted not to shower) , beds are cheap, springy, loud, junk. If we hadn't been awake for 21 and 23 hours I'd have just driven the 180 miles back home!

Not worth the money

Wonderful family run hotel. My family and pets are currently safely ensconced in a clean, fresh smelling, beautifully decorated king room to ride out hurricane Henri. A special thank you to the women at the hotel who helped me reserve the room on short notice. Sammie was incredibly helpful and understanding.
