Everything about our stay at the Joy House was wonderful. Peter and Barbara were great hosts who were always happy to help or just chat. Breakfasts were a definite highlight, with fresh pastries/fruit/jam. My favorite was the Jarlsberg quiche!

Our room was very comfortable and spacious, and the house was charming, with a hot tub and sitting room with snacks and games.

They wouldn't even let 2 tornadoes dampen our spirits, and bent over backwards to make our stay pleasant even when we briefly lost power. We're very much looking forward to staying with them again on our next trip to the Cape!

Amazing hospitality!

We stayed only for one night in this really raw B&B, on the way to Martha's Vineyard. It's run by a very nice, elderly couple. Everything is extremely cute and antique, we liked it very well, but nothing for someone looking for something modern. The homemade breakfast (Quiche, Blueberry Muffins, Smoothies, etc.) was excellent. The rest we can't say much about because we were only there for one night. The seafood restaurant directly is highly recommended. Overall, as anywhere in the area, the price level is very high.

It's a real B&B, asshole!

We spent 3 nights at the Joy House and the name matches our experience! Everything about our stay was a joy.  Pete and Barbara are so nice and welcoming.  

Our room was downstairs and plenty big for 3 of us. There are 2 large rooms, the one my husband and I used had a queen size bed and the other my son used had a nice large bed also.  The bathroom in between the 2 rooms was fully remodeled and very large with a double sink and nice rain shower. Off of the room is a large sitting room with an Atari game system and always a Kerig for coffee or hot chocolate and a snack.  My personal favorite is the outside gazebo, hot tub and fire pit.  Perfect for late afternoon happy hour!

Breakfast is an amazing feat. Barbara starts cooking a full breakfast and everything is fresh and homemade. Delicious fresh croissants with jams, eggs, bacon, fresh fruit, French toast etc.. every morning is something new and it’s a pure Joy to start your day this way.

Lovely Home Great Hosts

We have visited the Joy House multiple times and have been delighted each time.  It is one of the reasons we come to the Cape it is the perfect place for relaxation and recreation.  Breakfast is always fantastic and Peter and Barbara are great hosts.  Additionally it is located near the Cape Cod rail trail teriffic place to rent bikes and enjoy the scenery.

Friendliest B&B on the Cape

We stayed 11 nights at the joy houses and Barbara and Peter made it an unforgettable stay.
Not only the house, the rooms and the beagles make it worth, but the breakfast is just awesome.
Located in the center of Cape Cod it is a perfect base for all kind of adventures.
We love it and can recommend it as one of the best B& B's we ever stayed it.

Best breakfast ever

I find this one of the most difficult reviews I've every done.  We wanted to love Joy House but it fell a bit short for us.  Peter and Barbara try very hard and are nice people. Their hospitality is without question and as others have said they provide lots of things you wouldn't expect of a b&b, from towels to take to the beach to drinks in the fridge.  

We booked what I think was the captain's room for myself, husband and 16 year old son.  It is a nice room but the camp bed for our son was small and very uncomfortable.  It also creaked every time our son moved a muscle. The aircon worked well but was too noisy to have on and sleep.  I read these things and think people are just moaning but both were very loud.  

We had read so much about the breakfast on offer but were really disappointed on the first morning.  To be fair there was cereal, yoghurt, melon etc and the most wonderful pecan gluten free muffins.  Maybe make your own tacos with cold sausage and trimmings for breakfast is a Cape Cod thing but neither us nor our table mates were fans.  The next day's breakfast was very good with pancakes, muffins and bacon along with berries etc.  A lot of effort was made by Barbara to provide gluten free food and that was much appreciated. 

The house is old and obviously has some history and character.  There is a very steep staircase leading to two of the bedrooms which was absolutely fine for us but I couldn't help thinking that if we had turned up with my mother we would not have been able to stay.  It is almost vertical and completely unsuitable for anyone with mobility issues.  There is a nice garden outside with chairs etc but it is unkempt and therefore not very pleasant to be in.  Also, I'm afraid the hot tub had a few too many bits and bobs floating around for us to consider using it.    

So why 5/5?   There are some very good aspects to what Peter and Barbara provide and if you like slightly quirky, characterful places you will love it.  If like us your ideal establishment is sanitised minimalism, maybe not ideal for you. 

We stayed two nights with Pete and Barbara at Joy house, they are both extremely welcoming, breakfast is a feast and there are cold drinks in the fridge, crisps on the table, and coffee / tea available whenever you need it, they also have a hot tub in the garden which we did not actually use but another family there did and thoroughly enjoyed it.  We were given cheese, biscuits and wine one afternoon whilst sitting in the garden getting our breath back after a trip out.  All in all a charming place with lovely hosts.
