The proximity to the beach and restaurants is great, and we could tell that there had been some remodeling, but the workmanship wasn’t great: towel bar and toilet paper holder not properly anchored, futon came apart, etc.  The kitchenette was nice enough in the Streamliner room (suite? Not sure, was pretty small). It was nice to not have worry about parking, as a pass came with the room.   

All in all, it served its purpose!

Good enough!

It’s under new management and they need some help.  It served our needs for one night, but the rooms are outdated and small.  Definitely needs updating, but Danielle the housekeeper was great.  She knows her stuff and was very attentive to all our needs.  The room was clean, with very minimal and basic amenities, but it was ok.  The new owner and the management company need to communicate and get their stuff together because when you check out, you do expect to get a receipt for charges and know what you paid for the night.  You don’t expect to have to walk to another location to a management company and ask them to print you a receipt.

Clean, but needs some updating

We LOVED this motel! Have been coming to Folly with my girls and also my husband and prices in the last 5 year or so have become outrageous! 4 of us wanted to do a girls weekend on Folly Beach and the price at HI on FB was perfect. Our room had been remodeled (room 12) and was a bit smaller than it looked in the pictures online but had all we needed. You can park and walk anywhere on Center St that you may want to eat or dance at. The beach is a quick walk with only 1 street to cross (directly in front of HI on FB.) The pool area was clean and we had it to ourselves most of the time even on a beautiful August weekend. There is also a sitting area with a grill and chairs with table and umbrellas. The sitting area and pool was very private feeling. 
Prices drop in November and my husband and I are already talking about going back in the off season to stay here again. The atmosphere of the motel fits Folly to a T! Liking throwing it back to when Folly was the gem of the SC coast before the rich and college kids took over. If you are looking for that, then this is your place. If you like the McMansions, sand free stays, and empty pockets then look elsewhere.

Girls Weekend on Folly!

My best friend and I were really excited to try Holliday Inn, and their two-Queen rooms with kitchenette seemed perfect for a budget long weekend getaway with just two people. 

The good: Location is great - one block from Center Street and one street back from the beach. The pool is great and the area around it well kept - we really enjoyed hanging out there.

The ok: Our room was for the most part clean, but housekeeping definitely wasn’t thorough before our arrival (one bedside table was clean inside and out, the other filthy - I wiped it down with my own Clorox wipes, and the drawer in my bedside table was full of trash). Bathroom and kitchen area were clean. Would be handy to have a drying rack and/or dish towels in the kitchen area. Only 1 spoon. Beds are ok but mattresses need updating.

The not so great: Lots of commenters have spoken highly of the owners’ friendliness, but that was unfortunately not our experience. The day I arrived the receptionist/owner seemed annoyed to have to deal with me. When my friend arrived to meet me the next day at 11am, on a weekday, he seemed annoyed by her as well. (We wouldn’t have bothered him at all, but he had told me it was important for her to register her car and get a parking pass as soon as she arrived, so wanted to abide by that.)

All in all, not a warm fuzzy friendly place, but will do the trick if you need an affordable option and plan to be out most of the time!

Great location & good budget option

My family just spent 3 night at the hotel.  It is very old school.  Reminded me of a place my parents would stay at growing up.  We had a room facing the back that was very quiet.  The rooms on the front probably get more noise as bar down the street plays music late.  The room was clean and had a mini fridge and sink.  The bathroom was nice and the water pressure was awesome for those like myself that like a lot of pressure in a shower.  The beach is a three minute walk and plenty of restaurants down the street.  I would definitely stay here if you are looking for a hotel with a little old school charm

Great Old School Hotel

Nothing like what’s on the website. Our room was awful the old guy at front desk was a creeper. Every time we would get in pool he was always out on their back porch Bugs in room.water dripping,I swear it looked like peepholes in wall yeah it may be 4 minutes to beach but not worth it

have been staying here for 15 years! awesome location, rooms are perfect size and super clean! owners a great guy and always on site to assist. great pool and patio area out back. will consistently come back time and time again! highly recommend! thanks!!

holliday inn folly beach

I really enjoyed my stay.  I had an issue the first day I was there, I mentioned it, and it was corrected ridiculously fast.  I  had even told them not to worry about it for my stay as it wouldn't bother me, but they corrected it anyway.  That's customer service as it should be!  

It's an older, family run place but it's obvious that they try hard to keep it clean and in repair.  The decor is a mix of remodeled and older.  For example, my room was knotty pine walls (obviously older) but the bathroom had been completely remodeled (newer).  So, like I said it's obvious they try to keep up with the place, and I'm not sure who the heck would expect them to tear out all the walls especially since they were in good repair.  I guess some people just like to complain based on some of the reviews I read before booking there.

It's located so close to everything that you could walk back to your room in a minute or two when needed.  I never felt threatened in any way, as some other reviewer alluded to, in fact I can't imagine it on Folly Beach.

I'd highly recommend it this location and its staff to anyone that isn't so snobbish that they expect marble and granite in every room, and a mint on their pillow.  It is what it is, but they do that well.  I kind of hate to say it this way, but it's a tribute to a bygone era, i.e. a well run, well maintained establishment, run by people that went out of their way to take care of me.

The best thing was being able to stay on the ocean.  We were on the fifth floor. We opened the sliding doors and slept to sound of the ocean. That was magical until the pigeons or seagulls came into the room that morning!
