This us the first time I have ever given a negative review as it would be the worst motel ever. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would, as it was so bad. The carpet was wet, dirty and smelly so the room had a terrible odor. The motel was full so there was nowhere for us to go. As I had to wash my blackened feet from the disgusting carpet several times, I then resorted to wearing shoes around the room. The toilet handle was broken and ran until you jiggled it. The window didn't close. The internet didn't work. When I complained to the staff, I was told in writing by the owner I would be reimbursed, but after several follow ups, nothing happened. Do not stay here.

Worst motel room ever!

It was clean and cheap. People are 24/7 smoking cigs and making the place feel like you are wearing an ashtray. Nobody was at the front desk when I went to ask a question and there were no shortages of drifters hanging around the front door. Very convenient to being able to walk to all the shops, and besides hearing everyone talking through the walls it could have been worse I guess?! The motel was o.k. it was the people surrounding the rooms that made it feel unsafe and rundown. 

Cheap place to stay

Absolutely the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Soap scum all over tub. Walnuts on the floor in room. People hanging out in front of hotel till very late. When we addressed the concerns with them, they fixed nothing. Changed one pillow that was very dirty and nothing else. Cheap,  but disgusting.

Beware!

My husband and I have stayed at the Colton
a few times and the staff are always attentive to anything we need. Kaitlyn is always welcoming despite the fact our dog Gigi is a booger! The newly updated rooms have comfortable beds and modern bathrooms. The pool is a plus. The only thing they don't have is a snack machine however there is a store across the road. They are conveniently located by several restaurants and shops in walking distance. We will definitely be back soon.

Awesome staff

Could use better customer service skills. I called about reservation. The one girl was alright to talk to but there’s this one guy was piss poor upon check out. He had the tv blaring to where it’s practically impossible to talk to and hear and wanted a receipt for my stay which I didn’t get one. And was going to book for another trip but couldn’t because of what was mentioned before. And tried again today and said a different price from what was said online price was $30 cheaper than when I called then I called to see if it went through and seemed annoyed that I called to see if it went through because I don’t use online booking to often. I don’t know what his name is but seems like an older guy 

And I wish there was a microwave so I don’t have to eat out all the time.

Needs better service skills

The rooms were in awful condition.   It's a shame because it is in an excellent location. 

The first room stunk like sewage.  Management was kind enough to move us to a different room.

The rooms need to be gutted and completely redone.   At the very least, the curtains and bedspreads should be replaced and the carpets deep cleaned.

On the plus side, I didn't see any bugs in my room.  I thoroughly inspected my bed because I was seriously considering sleeping in my car.

We stayed at the Colton because we went with a group and the rest of the group had already booked rooms there.

I don't recommend staying there unless renovations/updates are made.

Great location,  but needs a LOT of work

The location is perfect, in the center of attractions. The staff was friendly, the service was great, and the rooms were clean. A beautiful view of the national cemetery, we will be back for Remembrance Day.

Good for the money

Booked in July 2022 for four months later (November 2022)... and get a call that they overbooked me 30 days before the event I was going to Gettysburg for. You think they could have let me know when I stayed there in July 2022 when I had a side trip stay and reserved it then. Oh and on that July 2022 stay there was a "challenge" with the reserved room, let's just say the toilet was 'dirty' and the 'wet spot' on the rug by the bed required a change of venue. August I did an unexpected stay due to a quick traveling south and north and the door key/lock wouldn't work to get in.  After having been loyal to the ownership (They own Budget Host Three Crowns across the street as well where I have stayed at least a dozen times) since 2013... I will never book a stay here again.

Piss Poor Service, Management and apparently Ownership

If I could give the Colton Motel (located at 232 Steinwehr Ave, Gettysburg, PA) a minus 100 rating, I would.  I have never delt with a hotel that does not know how many rooms it has available for a very busy weekend (Remembrance Day Weekend).
I made my reservation thru hotels.com for the Colton Motel on February 6, 2022 for an arrival date of November 18 , 2022.  I received an email confirmation the same day I made the reservation.  However, on October 19, 2022 (one month before our arrival) I get a call from the Colton Motel telling me that they do not have a room for me and I am now out of luck.  How in the world did they not know they were sold out eight months prior?  Why did they wait till one month before arrival to call me to say that they don’t have a room for me, when I made the reservation eight months ago?  
The manager at the Colton Motel told me that I am out luck and don’t have a room and then proceeded to tell me to book a hotel that wasn’t even near the location that I wanted to be.  
When I made my reservation in February 2022 for a 11/18/22-11/20/22 stay, I chose the Colton due to price and location.  I wanted my family to be close to the end of the Remembrance Day parade route, since my family is in the parade.  I then had to scramble to find another hotel nearby.
Because of their lack of organization and customer service, I will never stay or recommend that anyone else gives them their business.  Obviously, they don’t know how to run a hospitality business.
On a good side note: I contacted Hotels.com and they were able to get me a room at Gettysburg Hotel (a 5-star hotel) for the price of what the cost would have been at the Colton.  I am now getting a $400/night hotel for $175/night because hotels.com is eating the difference in cost due to the Colton Motel’s poor management.  Hotels.com gets a 5-star in their customer service.


They over book, then cancel a reservation that was made 8 months in advance just 1 month before your arrival

I personally wouldn’t ever stay here again. The staff is nice, don’t get me wrong but this place is NOT CLEAN. Our room was an “upgrade” & the toilet had poop dripping down the side & pee was caked all over the base. They came to clean it & removed the poop but left the base completely covered in pee. I think the bare minimum is done here to clean. The sink definitely needed wiped out. It had a film all around it. The fridge had an old onion in it that was moldy & leaked all over the fridge, that I myself cleaned out. Both bed spreads had cigarette burns in the blankets. The one mattress had a sheet on it that was made for a smaller mattress and was pulling off. I spilled a little water next to the bathroom sink & went to wipe it with a rag they had given me & it was black. The front door just has a very basic lock with nails that are protruding like someone kicked it in. There are people hanging around this motel at all hours. Just hanging out at the check in lobby. There’s a car sitting out in front of the lobby with garbage piled up high inside. It seems to be a place where almost homeless people rent out for a day or week. If Gettysburg wasn’t sold out everywhere I would’ve stayed elsewhere. For the price per night I was very surprised as it’s the same cost as a days inn, etc. with no breakfast, no hair dryer & no SOAP to even wash your hands! The one positive is the location. Central to everything. All I really expect is a clean room that I can sleep in. And they failed at that.
