Took my most excellent half here to stay overnight while attending a show in Marion.  The room was well laid out, furnished and very clean.  The bathroom was spacious and all amenities were very nice.  We enjoyed the stay and had a wonderful time in Marion.

Perfect for a weekend getaway!

Spent a week at the General Francis while visiting the area. The room had all i needed. It was quiet and i loved the original features of the building. It was convenient to some great places for dinner and in the middle of all the places i was visiting. 

Tjere is free parking at the back but as others have stated there are a few stairs to get into the lobby. So it was difficult navigating with a heavy suitcase. There is an elevator from the lobby. 

I loved the chocolates on the bedside table and the "make up" face washer.

Only complaint was the complimentary breakfast. Limited options. Waffles, oatmeal packets, mandarins and apples. Bread and toasters, but no butter or even spreads for the toast. I ate elsewhere most days. 

All in all a beautiful place to stay.

Convenient and beautiful old world charm

I was in town for a continuing education class. The hotel was clean, bed comfortable and in walking distance to a few restaurants.  There is not a restaurant in the hotel and the breakfast not for me (PopTarts?)  I love staying in historic places. Definitely will visit again.

Felt I was back in time staying in a great hotel.

It's a wonderful old hotel in Marion. Staff were great. I asked for a quiet room in the back and got one on the 5th floor. I'm a light sleeper and didn't need earplugs that night in contrast to the previous few nights on my travels. Very clean, comfortable bed, nice tile in the bathroom. Only slight flaw was the sofa chair in the room was a little saggy. 

Not specific to this hotel, but it really is terrible that so many new hotels and renovated old hotels have sealed up their windows. 

Wonderful 1920s renovated hotel in Marion.

This is our second or third stay at the Francis Marion. It is a nice, historic hotel right in the center of Marion. We stayed on a Saturday night to see the Song of the Mountains show at the Lincoln theatre next door. We thought the rate for a Saturday night, on a show night, was very reasonable.  We had a full bed and our room was spacious and the bathroom was large.  The decor is nice.  Staff were kind, parking is just behind the hotel.  We parked upon arrival and walked everywhere. The breakfast seemed pretty sparse and could be improved upon.  Maybe some greek yogurts and granola. There were 2 varieties of cereal, 1 type of fruit, and some packaged items (in addition to waffles). I think the breakfast could be improved upon with a few additional items.

Lovely Historic Hotel

Small room, no hot water,drain on tub broken, average at best. Staff ok but nothing outstanding. Location is very good, in middle of town. Probably will not stay there again. Didn't even have a clock in the room

We were doing a driving foliage tour and spent one night at the Captain Francis Marion. We felt the rates were rather high for the accommodations. The transom in the door was broken, the drapes were not hung so they would close properly, one lamp by bed didn’t work and the television was small. After we brought these items to their attention, they did give us a 15% discount.  I would probably not stay there again. The Mexican restaurant at the hotel was very good and the king bed was comfortable.

Unique hotel for a small town.

We wanted to check out the Song of The Mountain theater, and so we scheduled a trip to Marion and this hotel. It was a few doors down from the theater. It was clean enough in the lobby, and when we went to our room, it was clean.
However, the bed was horrid…felt like a Motel 6 bed. It jiggled so much neither one of us could sleep, and the sheets were paper thin.
In addition, for the price, we feel they should at least give you a breakfast sandwich, cereal, or toast and bagels. The breakfast was oatmeal packet, Pop Tarts, a few pieces of fruit, or a choice of packaged small donuts with coffee or juice. This left us cold. We stayed at so many other cheaper lovely hotels along our way with full breakfasts, we surely will not return to this one.

Overnight stay

Yes, historic hotel in main street but the rest is very very  poor.
Room is clean but feels old, small and very basic. They changed breaker  for a "coffee bar" which is a table with coffee wrapped muffins and mini donuts and instant quacker.... very poor...

Overrated 

This is our second time here. This is a great place to stay for a romantic getaway. Don’t forget to pay attention to the original details left in place after restoration. Probably not a great spot if traveling with small children. Price is reasonable and amenities are great!
