This property is well located just a short walk to the main shopping and restaurants. The staff on all shifts proved friendly and helpful. The rooms are as advertised on the website plain but serviceable. If you are fussy about pillows bring your own. None of ours were softer than a rock.The only other notable deficiency was security. The side and back doors were unlockeda ll night. Could have been a two night oversight but not a good look. Overall wortth the price and we would return.


Go for the location, stay for the value

We were afraid we wouldn’t find a place to stay on the North Shore but were able to find this hotel on a Friday night. Great beds! Ok breakfast but they served The World’s Best Donuts which were delicious. Great coffee too. We didn’t have a chance to use the pool as it was late when we arrived but it looked nice. We could look out our window at the lake which was great.

Great hotel

Centrally located hotel in Grand Marais. Right on main highway. Could walk to harbor and My Sisters place for dinner. Air worked well. Ice machine on same floor. Continental breakfast in morning. Staff friendly and knowledgeable regarding dining options and sites to visit.

Convenient hotel to harbor

I have to say this was one of the worst experiences of my 71 years of life staying at a hotel! There was construction going on, and we were not pre-warned. But, the construction was right outside her window with workers heads been level with our windows. The pounding they yelling to each other in the loud music gave us no peace and quiet if we went back to our room! We have asked for compensation from that general manager named Mark Sandbo and he has not responded after several requests. As everyone knows takes time and energy searching for a place to stay taking the time away from whatever is going on at home to make these trips. Not to mention six hours one-way driving. I am very very disgusted at the audacity to book these rooms while it’s under construction. The other part of it was you had one door that you could enter this property on. All the other doors were blocked off by construction workers and equipment. We were told one door and that was it.  I am hoping eventually the general manager, and the owner will see these reviews and respond. 

The worst experience I’ve ever had at Hotel

Nice location in Grand Marais and close to downtown.  Overall the hotel is old and dated.  Rooms are fine. Breakfast operation is absurd, you tell
the front desk what you want and they bring it out to you. Menu is average at best.  Staff is helpful. 

Average hotel in Grand Marais. 

This hotel was clean and reasonably well-maintained, with everything in downtown Grand Marais within easy walking distance. It is older and showing its age, and the breakfast is pre-packaged, nothing fresh. The pool and spa were nice, and the rooms were spacious. This place worked very well for a large family with small children.

Walk to downtown with nice pool and spa

No communication about pool area being closed. Front desk was very rude and offered no incentives. Window was broken in room and wouldn't close entirely.  "Jacuzzi" was just a bathtub with a couple jets. Could barely fit 2. Really outdated hotel and very unprofessional service. 

April showers

Parking was weird, mostly because of the snow and made it difficult to unload my luggage and equipment.  The Hotel is way out of the way and the quality suffers greatly because of it.  The room was a throw back to the 90's with furniture from the 90's.  Most everything in the room appeared old and worn out. the place felt clean enough.  Shower was in a cramped tub.  The thermostat had no temperature on it.  You had to guess a little red or blue.

Decent, nice staff, very old and dated

This hotel is clean, and the rooms are spacious and quiet.  The continental breakfast has many offerings.  We were on third floor which was non-smoking; there was not even a hint of smoke smell.  It did not allow pets, which we appreciated.  It is in a good location for walking around Grand Marais.  For the price, it has what any guest would need for their journey.  We will stay here again!

A perfect place to stay!

When one person "in charge" tells you one thing, and you listen to them, only to be told by the manager that she's in charge and now will not accept what the gentleman said when you called, it is very frustrating. They should stick to their words and be honest with customers. If something is unknown, then tell the customer up front, not say one thing and then have it turn out to not be true. Wouldn't recommend a place that goes back on their word. Not trustworthy.
