Good,bad and sad…
  Great location,lotsa nearby stores and restaurants,boats…
However,no Wi-Fi outlets for iPad or cellphone,no breakfast available..here’s the sad part- I was admiring the conical salvia flowers off back patio,then I heard a devise ,looked over to right of beautiful plants and a worker was cutting off the tops! I explained the 🐝 need the flowers,in Spanglish,he didn’t comprehend. Please,management be aware…

Good,bad and sad…

We just loved our one night here at the Oceana with our view of the bay. Reception staff were so warm and kind and the room was lovely, very cozy with a great bed, a nice fireplace, and a wonderful view over the Marina and the point to the north. We stayed at the Ritz-Carlton on company business afterwards, but both of us would rather return to the Oceana.

We chose to stay here as it was accessible to Half Moon Bay golf links and it also had a golf package.

The lobby suggested potential but the rooms were badly maintained. It was dirty and dusty. The carpets probably have not been vacuumed in months.

Upon checking out there were no one to help with the bags and they didn’t seem to care.

Will never go back.

Disappointing

Not quite a fan, but....we chose this place uninitiated. My male companion was willing to spring for the Oceana next door but I talked him into saving $100.  We will return to the Pillar Point Inn for Christmas because we did like the room so much. PRIMARILY because we could not hear people thunking walls or floors which we encounter every place we go including $600 rooms at Bodega Bay which Pillar Point Inn has better views than. 

As the little step sister of the fancy hotel, I was still disappointed to find hair in our sink, pee in our toilet, a pocked and bubbled low quality bath tub, a side window that was stuck shut, a very weird heater that needed a robot to operate then broke down (thankfully the 3-D gas fireplace is there), the vertical bed board had slid down so one banged toes on it every time, and we had to unscrew the shower stopper. In addition, they need to put memory foam on the mattress in room 10 and elsewhere. I don't mind a hard mattress, but it did feel shabby and not shabby-chic as was the rest of the room including bleach spots on the carpet and a bit worn feel to the fabrics. 

We are city people and did not mind the street noise right outside our window even the drunk regalers passing by. Still, the fog horn, the fabulous rays of sunlight through the clouds after the rain, the sea lion sounds, the fishing boats spires and crab smells, the waves and glints of the eternal sea right out our window (you could stay in the room the whole time if you bring food although there is no microwave, only a small fridge and kerrog coffee maker), our huge bay window with window seat, excellent television, proximal bars and good restaurants, and a lowered rate during our next stay because the season demands it--we did at the end of the day love our room. I would have liked a bigger and more functional bathtub for $259/night plus tax. The T/P holder is also behind you and a bit too far away. But as I say, we were enchanted by Half Moon Bay and its flat ocean view hikes and are coming back for Christmas. For some reason we cannot explain, we loved the Pillar Point Inn second floor ocean facing room with bay window and fire place.

we have stayed here many times, and each time we find something new and special to make yet another memory of our times here.
Breakfast is not to be missed, with homemade specialties and lots of delicious coffee.  It feels as though you are sharing a meal with close friends and family.


little place with big avantages

My boyfriend and I planned a last minute getaway here. I really enjoyed the view of the harbor and ocean. The fireplace in the room was wonderful and the Aveda products were phenomenal. It was very clean and the location was perfect! The shower could use a little update but other than that it was terrific. I could have stayed there for a week!

Adorable at a good rate

We stayed in Pillar Point for 1 night during our honeymoon, and we absolutely loved it. Although it was a bit of a distance outside San Francisco itself but the surroundings were absolutely beautiful. 
We booked our room via booking.com and actually thought we were staying in the main Oceano Hotel building (although on looking back at our confirmation e-mails etc they did say Pillar Point). There isn't an elevator in Pillar Point so you have to take your suitcase (23kg each for us!) up a staircase, but they did offer to do this for us. The girl who checked us in was friendly but we did feel slightly rushed even though reception was empty. 

One thing to be aware of is that the marina is a little noisy but the hotel did provide earplugs as standard for light sleepers. There were loads of unique restaurants and bars around the area, pumpkin patches all over the place and just loads to look at. 

To summarise, I would recommend the hotel - it's a beautiful area and wish we had spent more time there but it was quite costly (but the prices in general for San Francisco were quite high so I don't think they were overpriced in comparison).

Gorgeous Room and Gorgeous Location

Checking in at the Oceano Hotel front desk, I felt distinctly second-class not staying in the main hotel. The clerk was smiling and friendly, yet perfunctory, not forthcoming with directions or information. I was there for two nights, midweek, off-season, and the hotel was nearly empty. The desk clerks had nothing to do, yet they acted as though they did not have time for me.

My room was large and had a great view. Its appearance was superficially very pleasant. High ceiling and gas fireplace with glass doors, not bad at all. The Berber carpeting seemed new, but the antiqued finish on the furniture did not completely disguise the poor maintenance.

The baseboard heater was very old, painted over, and with a cover falling off. No matter, there's the gas fireplace for heat. It worked flawlessly.

The updated bath had a new sink and faucet, but the spigot was loose.  There was a new low-flow toilet, but it was not within arm's-reach of the older built-in tile toilet paper dispenser. Peculiar and inconvenient, but not a deal-breaker.

Then I went to open the windows, and found that the cranks were broken on the two side  windows. Some previous guest, who didn't know how to operate casement windows, no doubt had attempted to force the cranks without releasing the latches first. The main sliding window had a sign, "open only in emergency."

When I turned down the bed, I got a shock, thinking the bed had been slept in. On closer inspection, I determined from the uniformity of the wrinkles, that the sheets had been crammed into the dryer, and/or not removed promptly. Not a good impression. There was a hair on the bedspread. Ugh! Now, the decision -- do I complain, ask for another room? Nah, I was getting a bargain rate, I decided I could live with it.

During the night, it became drafty. I realized that the window that I thought was stuck closed, was in fact stuck ajar. I had to remove the screen, but succeeded in getting it closed without the useless crank. The windows are double-glazed, so it was much quieter, as well. Replacing the screen, I could see how long that window had remained in that condition. Washed hands before going back to bed.

All-in-all, the room was such a mixed bag, that it's it's hard to recommend it. On the other hand,  it, even with its many shortcomings, for the money, it was a lot nicer than most motel rooms.
