Absolutely amazing Stay! We throughly enjoyed our recent visit with Gavin and Laura at thier beautiful AirBnB-Hilo Bay Room! Gavin took us on a private tour around the property and talked story with us and it was so nice! We enjoyed the hot tub, the hammock, the beauty of the stars, a beautiful sunrise, fruit off the trees and just the serenity of this beautiful place! We definitely would love coming back! Such a beautiful peaceful place and near by several of the areas we wanted to visit! Dave and I throughly enjoyed this weekend at this amazing property with such hospitality! Thank you so much for making our first trip to Hilo a great one! We appreciate the opportunity to book your room and we look forward to returning in the future! 

Lastly, Laura and Gavin were always quick to respond. They allowed us the ability to check in early and check out late. When we came in we needed the gate code and Gavin came up and made sure we got in ok and had everything we needed. He also let us know he was just a phone call away it we ran into any issues at all! Again just an amazing couple who really goes out of their way to make sure thier guests are comfortable and have what they need!

Loved this location! The rooms are clean and comfortable and the grounds are beautiful! It is very quiet and peaceful. Close to Akaka Falls, Rainbow Falls, the Boiling Pots, and Hilo. Garvin & Laura are great hosts and offered the best restaurant recommendations. We had fruit each morning fresh off the trees on the property, and the flowers all around were amazing. Will definitely stay here next time I’m on the Big Island!

Perfect retreat!

The accommodation is beautifully located, everything is greatly organized, the hosts are extremely friendly, they are very happy to give great tips when asked for and are otherwise really reserved and respectful. Yes, you have to confirm in writing that you have received some pages of information on arrival, and I also made it clear to Laura that we - as non-native English speakers - feel somewhat overwhelmed in this regard, but after this was discussed and clarified, it was fine again. All in all, a great stay!

Beautiful, well-maintained accommodation in a unique location

We booked Island Goode's for our honeymoon based off of reviews and pictures we had seen online. What we got for our money was way more then we could have expected. Our flight into Hilo was an early one and we arrived at the property well before check in, we figured that if we couldn't check in early we could at least stay on the grounds until it was time. However, Laura and Garvin were more then accommodating, allowing us to check in early and enjoy our beautifully spacious room. We stayed in the Hilo Bay room and my goodness what a room it was! There are plenty of amenities available, a small television, air conditioning and several fans, bathroom complete with shower and a bath, coffee making facilities including an actual kettle!!! (A rare occurrence in the US.)  and a fridge freezer. We also had a huge outdoor area to ourselves and this included cooking accessories so you can do some home cooking if you want to. 

One thing that should be mentioned for couples travelling from outside of the United States is to hire a car to get around. Uber travels to the hotel and will pick you up from it, but if you travel further north without a vehicle you will not be able to get back. If you cannot drive, there is a Safeway that delivers groceries to the hotel should you need to get some groceries in. There are no safe facilities on the property but there are not needed, the hotel is in a nice secluded spot 15 minutes outside of Hilo. You could leave your room unlocked if you wanted to knowing full well that your possessions are safe. It also felt like we had the place to ourselves as well, Laura and Garvin were not overbearing but were polite and hospitable and when they were around we had some fantastic conversations about the island, the property, their animals and life in general. 

The hotel also has its own stars in the form of Jake the dog, Prudy and Jasper the donkeys and Agnes the (illusive) cat. All animals are friendly and deserve your pets as they are all good boys and girls, if you ask Laura she may also allow you to feed some carrots to the donkeys! Other animal life is in abundance too with wild geckos plentiful throughout the day and at night-time you get amazing views of Hilo bay and the stars all to the chorus of the coqui frogs, make sure you have insect repellent at hand as well, the mosquitos also enjoy your company. 

Overall there is plenty to do here at Island Goode's, there is a small swimming pool and hot tub which will keep you satisfied on those lazy days and there is links to the city where there are tours aplenty for those who are adventurous. Beach days can also be had too! We would recommend this place to anybody who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and to anyone that wants a base of operations to see the beauty of the Big Island.

Perfect for couples.

We were recently here while visiting family in Hilo and had and amazing stay.  Garvin and Laura are very accommodating and made our stay comfortable and pleasant.  We stayed in the Hilo Bay room, which was very clean, well appointed and comfortable.  The private lanai with a view of the bay is amazing and my husband fell in love with the homegrown bananas that were about the property.  We will definitely stay here again when we return!

Amazing Stay!!

The Goode's have a lovely compound just north of Hilo.  Its close to the highway, but far enough away to be quiet and peaceful.  They have a handful of various rooms, that are tastefully decorated with nice little touches throughout.  Its like visiting your friends/family in the country, but the accommodations are classy and clean, and the surrounding property is well maintained and beautiful.

You get a comfortable bed, lots of room, and nice furniture inside the room.  Also, there is comfortable chairs, hammocks, and loungers to relax under the shade on the porch in front of each room.  They owners grow lots of fruit trees and share their fruit with their guests.  They are very responsive and take a genuine interest in your comfort and happiness while in their care.  But they also give the guest plenty of space and privacy.  But they are there anytime you need them, and are very friendly and nice people!  Its not cheap, but its not expensive.  It IS good value.  Also, if you are looking for a longer stay, call Garvin, and he can offer a good rate on extended stays, for travellers and people in the Hilo area there on business.

Hospitality with a smile!

We decided to stay a couple of nights at the hotel near Hilo before returning to the US mainland, the room was very comfortable and with the necessary services, the check-in/out service was very good and there was parking.

Very good!!!

It's lovely, but it's overcrowded, a little noisy for my taste, maybe it's a personal perception, but I prefer more relaxing locations.

In the average

We stayed on “tower” 3rd level room. Beautiful view from all sides. Great view of the ocean. They have a few animals in the property including two cats, one dog and two horses. Very friendly service from the owners. 

One of the best places to stay!! 

We stayed at the top of Island Goode's Treehouse, which is a three-story tower on the property, and we were thrilled. It was surrounded by balcony and windows, great views, quiet. The room is tastefully furnished, the sleeping-room is fantastic, and there is a refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. The room is cleaned every day. The hosts are present, but not intrusive, there are horses, cats and a dog, plus a pool on the large property. The other guest rooms are in the main house.
