We stopped in Poughkeepsie on our drive.  We had not made advance hotel reservations because our plan was to take the walk across the Hudson River and visit Val-Kill which both require good weather.  About 100 miles from Poughkeepsie we tried to make a hotel reservation and everything in Poughkeepsie was booked.  Also the rates were around $300 for all the chain hotels.  We found The Inn at Arbor Ridge about 25 miles short of Poughkeepsie and they had a room that was "only" $179.  I did not have time to look at the reviews.  But nobody is exaggerating just how run down the rooms are.  I want to write this just in case someone was thinking the rooms have been updated. The last review was a few years back.   I will include my photos of the broken curtains, the wall plaster falling down, the peeling paint, the multiple ceiling water stains, the bulge in the bathroom door which is held together by 2 little screws, the door that has only an old fashioned knob lock with no peephole or chain i.e., basically no security, and the rusty toilet.  It was an unbelievable run down room.  The rug was so disgusting that I had to use bath towels to create a path across the rug so I could walk to the bed.  When I walked on the run, my feet felt slimy.  One bed was OK, but the other sagged to about half its depth when you sat on it.  NOTE: the condition of the room had nothing to do with the staff.  The front desk staff was very nice.  The housekeeping staff did as much as possible to make this dump of a room as clean as possible.  

I can't believe I stayed here.

Decided to give it a try since it was the closest hotel to where we needed to be. There is a sign on the door about the need to wear a mask upon entering the building.  NOT ONE EMPLOYEE WEARS A MASK. We were checked in by an elderly gentleman WITH NO MASK who then said he was so tired from his chemo earlier that day. The bathroom was pretty bad, I was able to clean it up a little. The night before we checked out when we returned to the hotel there was a dirty sock on the floor in the hallway. When we checked out the next day the sock was still there.  I wish I had taken a picture of it. This hotel is connected to a party venue. I would think they would want a good reputation to attract people to their establishment. Next time we will drive the 20-30 minutes to the next city for a better hotel.

Wedding weekend

Went there to attend a Karoeke party nearby. Was able to obtain last minute reservation. The inn is very near to center of the town. They give you a real key to your door and you take a small flight of stairs to the 2nd floor. The room walls are painted white with no wall decor. The bedding was no nonsense and without senseless layers of sheets that are commonplace in regular hotels and inns. The place smelled very clean and fresh. In summary, it’s a nice, neat and comfortable place that reflects the small town simplicity that it is nestled in. Would highly recommend if you are of simple sensible tastes .

Breath of Fresh Air

The manager is by far the rudest person I have ever encountered in the hospitality industry. After getting into our room, my brother and I noticed right away that the room reeked of cigarette smoke. I was contemplating on saying anything as we had just arrived after a very long drive and we were both exhausted. We decided to try and deal with it. We were in the room for maybe 20 minutes when I decided that I had to say something. I went to the front desk and spoke to Michelle (the manager) and explained that the room smelled like smoke and I asked for another room. She asked me if we messed the room up because her cleaning staff went home for the day. I said no and she took us to the room next door. We weren’t in the new room for more than five minutes and she called the room’s phone and was very upset. She said she had to clean the entire room that we just moved from and that she told me her cleaning staff had left. The only thing we did in the first room was lay on top of the beds (we did not get under the blankets) and turned on the tv...but she was acting like we partied in it or something and she had to deep clean it. She also stated that the room did not smell like smoke at all and basically implied that I was lying. She also said that the hotel was sold out that night and that she couldn’t rent out that room the way we left it. I was shocked to be treated that way as a paying guest. I went to the front desk and offered to go back to the original room as I had no other options as far as going to another hotel and everything felt awkward due to what happened. She said it was fine and that she was cleaning the room herself. I left it at that and went back to the new room. Worst experience I have ever had at a hotel..why would I go in one room for 20 minutes and then ask for a new room for no reason? What would I gain from doing that? You don’t yell at and argue with a paying guest for any reason.

Horrible

WORST PLACE EVER!!! Dirty and not all renovated rooms!! The one we stayed in had a bathroom and beds from 1970. Staff was unresponsive, jerks!!! Some rooms are renovated apparently, not ours and with no care from front desk! Pretty sure he was high as a kite! Never ever ever!!!

Not enough hot water to shower the full family! This hotel might be from the 80's and remains probably exactly the same as 30 years back...even the phone..

We stayed here recently. When we checked out we weren't offered a receipt. We made a fuss and were given one for $145.75. It was charged to our VISA. We checked our VISA charges a week later. Our VISA was charged with $165.75. We called and were told that all hotels have these incidental charges. We called VISA. Yet to be resolved.
