Flagstone Boutique Inn & Suites, Canyons Collection Property

This is an older motel, spruced up with a pretty name.  It looks nothing like the picture.    We reserved through a website listed beneath booking.com (reservationdesk.com).  We were unaware there is not an office for check-in, bur rather, a lockbox by the room door.  We did not receive this information with our reservation.  So we arrived, tired from a long drive.  Once we found the motel and found another person staying there, we learned this.  We had no way of getting into the room, and after asking others we found, we looked for the visitors center for help.  This all took about 45 minutes.  The “inn” has new ownership, but the person at the center only knew the previous owner.  She made some phone calls and left a message.  After another 45 minutes, the current owner called and gave us the code (she doesn’t live in Kanab).  The owner at this point was very responsive and offered us a free meal at the adjoining restaurant for our inconvenience.  By this time we were too tired to eat out, so we decided to go to a fast food restaurant for takeout.  But (TRUE STORY) we couldn’t get the door open to leave!!  We tried and tried without success.  My husband finally had to crawl out the window and open it from the outside.  Again, we called the owner.  She arranged to have her handyman come and fix the door.  He arrived about 30 minutes later. He said the door had too short nails in the hinge, which prevented the door from sitting level, so it got stuck at an angle.  He replaced the nails ( I think he had to leave to buy some).  After another 20-30 minutes we were able to go for food.  We decided to eat next door for breakfast.  As it turned out, the following day the restaurant was closed due to a staff shortage.  No compensation was given us for all the inconvenience- only the offer of a meal at a closed restaurant.  

This occurred in room 1.  At the time, the interior was superficially cleaned well by the housekeeper.  However, a deeper cleaning was needed prior to renting it out.  The single rug was dirty.  The coffeepot had coffee, cream and sugar, but the inside of the pot was gross with white film.  The vent cover was loaded with dust.  And, of course, the only security was a single window pane without even a screen.  I imagine there were issues with the other rooms, or else this one was the last to be improved.  But it should not have been rented out with these conditions.  It appeared income was more important than customer care.

Not As Advertised

Had to scrub the tile on my hands and knees for 45 minutes because it was so dirty when we arrived. Texted the owner asking for the $25 cleaning fee refunded. Nope. Can’t believe how greedy people have become. 

Dirty Floors Without Resolution

We stayed here during the 2023 Kanab Balloons and Tunes festival.  Overall the room was nice and suited our needs during our stay.

Pros: 
1)  Allows dogs and the nightly pet fee was only $10 per night

2) the bed was really comfortable 

3) small kitchenette is nice to have - decently equipped with a microwave, single serve k-cup coffee, wine glasses, basic kitchen items an a few small appliances 

4) overall quiet considering it is located on US 89 as it comes into town

5) 

Cons:
1)  parking lot in the front and the back of the property is red dirt/clay.  During our stay it had snowed a couple of days prior to our arrival and everything was muddy.

2)  Hotel signage is initially difficult to see as coming into town.There is a pizzeria on the premises and their signage  is bright, large and center placed so you think the pizzeria is the primary business and  not the hotel.  Also there is not any signage of the main hotel office.

4) Check-in is complete contactless.  I had to call the number listed and was assumed an email was with check in instructions was sent however I never received an email. While I understand the post-Covid impact, I miss the face to face aspect of hotels.

5) while the property does allow pets there is no place on the property for dogs to relieve themselves  I had to consistently walk my dog to a park about a block away.

6) Room instructions stated that if we use the dishes  provided in the kitchenette, we also needed to wash them prior to check out or be charged $25  cleaning fee.  I would expect this type of language with an Air BNB  not a hotel

2023 Kanab Balloon and Tunes festival

When you're traveling in cold weather, you need something more than a bed. We stayed in the king suite and were very pleased with the big comfortable chairs and table. This is a must after sundown (unless you are young and out partying :). Each room also has chairs outside which we hope to use on our next trip. Another must for us is to have something other than concrete outside our door because we travel with pets. Flagstone has done many things right. It's very clean, the beds are lucious, the ventilation system is modern and easily controlled via remote. Each room has a kitchen which we always use more than we think we will. The rooms are small, but the space is used well. Two small idiosyncrasies: 1. our room had no nightstands due to the bed size and 2. counter space was limited. That said, we've stayed twice and have more stays planned. Something else to mention - there is no main desk. They simply send you a door-code on your day of arrival, it works really well. When we ran out of coffee pods, we called their main number and had them within 20 minutes. One more thing - the onsite restaurant Peekaboo looks delicious but is "meatless". Being in our 60s and set in our ways, we walked to nearby Adria's instead.

Comfortable both INSIDE and OUTSIDE

Wonderful place! clean and had everything we needed. We stayed here for a week and Kanab is a great little town.  Room had a kitchen and all the necessary cooking utensils.  Towels were provided and water was hot. Perfect  place to stay if you want to visit Zion and Bryce National Park.

Sayed for a week

Dirty, super small rooms, workers speed in the parking lot, manager or owner I interacted with is not a righteous businessman 
There are WAY better places in town who will appreciate your money & your business.

Horrible experience

We booked our own room with kitchen and declined house keeping. We had all the amenities we needed and did not have to share indoor space with anyone. The kitchen was well equipped and the space was bigger than what I expected.
The place was very clean and centrally located (No central AC and heating was a plus, AC and heating was a closed loop for the unit only).

Safe Thanksgiving Trip

Our party  had two rooms for 7 nights and everything was perfect. Full kitchen in one room, but the restaurant on site was so good that we barely used our kitchen. Travis the manager had great recommendations. And the location is perfect for exploring both Zion and Bryce.

Great place

We wanted to do a little family trip with our pup to get out of the house. We absolutely loved the room and the staff was very friendly! We will be back for sure and explore a little more next time! We only stayed for a night but plan to do a longer stay on our way back through! 

Can’t wait to go back!

i really rented here for the spa tub. it felt great. room was really nice with a nice kitchen set up seating for 4. queen beds a little to firm for me and did provide a good nights sleep, walls are a little on the thin side as i could here tennants next to me. the real concern here for me is the raised flooring in the bathroom as it could be a real toe stubber if not careful
