A few weeks ago, we decided we wanted to go to the Hot Air Balloon Festival in Rhinebeck, NY.  I was looking for a place to stay and during my internet search hit upon the Schwartz's Inn by accident like a hidden gem!   I called and spoke to Joe the owner and he was very nice and I got a good feeling about booking here when I spoke to him over the phone.  Boy was I correct.  My husband and I loved the Schwartz's Inn.  The apartment is amazing with so much space.  There is a master bedroom, kitchen, full bathroom with walk-in shower, living room with comfortable seating area, another bedroom that sleeps 2 more and even another small room with a single bed for a child.  There is so much space and you really feel the comforts of home.  Loved the antique decor which added to the feel of Kingston.  Very clean apartment as well! We come from the city and don't have a car.  For all the city people who are coming by bus, The Schwartz's Inn is one block away from the bust station and the best part is all the attractions and restaurants are within walking distance from The Schwarz's Inn. This was the first time my husband and I visited Kingston and we loved the town, There is so much history and we loved the quaint little stone homes, shops and great restaurants.  We loved Kingston so much we decided that we will make this a yearly trip every summer.  Of course we will be booking again at The Schwartz's Inn.

Our weekend in Kingston, NY from 7/6/18 - 7/8/18

We spent two nights here...it is an incredibly spacious apartment with a full kitchen. Although the decor is not modern, it adds to the atmosphere. Our first night there was a lot of noise from the Saturday revellers but it was quiet later on. We opened all the windows and got a pleasing breeze to cool us down. As we slept in the front bedroom,we also found the noise of the fridge freezer was intrusive but once we closed the partition, it did not disturb us at all. Joe said we could move to the back bedroom if we wanted for our second night...but we didn't bother.   It is an excellent location for a range of restaurants, bars and interesting shops. Well worth a visit.

Spacious self catering  atmospheric apartment

I met a friend in Kingston.  Neither of us had been there.  What a fabulous little town!  We fell in love with the wonderful old buildings, quaint farm to table restaurants, unique shops and very friendly community.  The Schwartz inn was perfect.  Behind a small door lies a wonderful oasis!  Very large rooms-3 separate bedrooms, sitting room, full kitchen.  Excellent air conditioners which were needed on a sweltering weekend.  Helpful very pleasant in-keepers-called & checked to see that we had all we needed.  Stocked with cold water, coffee & teas.
Out the front door and your choice of excellent restaurants!  Short drive to waterfront area with more restaurants, old train and more shops.
Highly recommend this unique Inn- we will be back!

Kingston, New York

We frequently visit Kingston to see family and this place is a perfect place to stay.  There is plenty of space to stretch out and relax in this restored apartment.  The painted tin ceilings are magnificent... and it was fun to imagine what life was like back when the building was built 100 years ago.  Parking right outside your door is easy.  The apartment is located on the second floor of a building right on the main street in Kingston, so one reviewer complained about some noise but it's much better than staying in a hotel and hearing other people come back to their rooms and slam those heavy doors. Plus, staying on the main street means you are walkable to great food and coffee shops and Deisings, a breakfast place and bakery that my husband would bring us yummy food from every morning!  That said the kitchen had everything we needed. The owners can recommend the best places around for whatever your interests are and they are a delight.  Thank you Joe and Barbara!

i would give 2 1/2 if i could.
The basics and more were handled fine in this space, but still some big drawbacks.
the pluses -- nice bed, very clean, a lot of space, including kitchenette with sitdown table, stove & refrigerator, and nice clean bathroom.

the minus - an odd layout, dark lighting, just this side of dingy. (It should always be a sign when a place does NOT show their rooms online)
biggest minus is that very sleepy kingston NY still has a few jumping bars/restaurants near this place, which is located next to one municipal parking lot and across the street from another. 
we heard way too much noise on a friday night from alcohol-enriched partiers well past 1 am, close to 2 am. just too noisy revelers, nothing unsafe or rowdy. but i really would NOT return. also, be sure to remember it's not a B&B, and the owners are not on premises.

depends on your tolerance for noise and how much you want to save on lodgings, as this really is a cut below some of the hotel chains in the area
