Very clean, quiet and everything we needed. Not fancy, but that’s fine. Within walking distance of any place you would want to go, and next door to the Blue Moon which is a fun place to eat and relax. Thumbs up 👍🏼

Quick getaway

Reading some of the other reviews for this hotel, I'm surprised. But there are always picky people, and reviews tend to run on the negative side. Yes, the hotel is an old building--but I call that classy. It had an old-world feel which I thoroughly enjoyed. I stayed in Room #1 with my sister for a birthday trip, and we loved this adorable little room. Beautifully decorated, it was clean, well stocked, and quiet. The location is perfect for easy access to the local grocery store, restaurants (amazing food, btw), and not far from the hot springs.

We stayed two nights. There was a little fridge and microwave, both in great working order. The bathroom was clean and neat. No issues with the plumbing. The heating system worked well. The bedding and bed itself were clean and comfortable. The TV was modern and hooked in with satellite TV.

Best of all was the staff, especially Rachel. She was friendly, helpful, and informative. My sister and I fell in love with the adorable gift shop just inside the hotel. Again, classy.

We had no issues whatsoever. It was a wonderful, relaxing trip, and we'd gladly go back. Recommended!

Clean, Friendly, Great Location!

This was such a cute and comfy little spit to stay! We loved it. There was plenty of room in our suite. We had the king suite number 9. Yes there was a bit of an old musty smell when you first walked in the room but it wasn't bad and what do you expect it's an older building. Everything was clean, Julie was nice upon check in and the resident dog Panda is just the cutest and sweetest pup ever! Close to the store and a few shops on main Street. Never heard the bar the whole weekend we were there. We will definitely book with them again when we come back in the fall!

Great Stay!

Upon walking into our room the first thing we noticed was the smell. Like cigarettes, musky and old. I moved into the kitchen and noticed the coffee pot still had old coffee and grounds in it. Just past the coffee pot under the kitchen window was a big strip of black mold. I took a tissue and gave it a wipe, a thick glob of it wiped off like butter. Also there were no amenities or touches in the room. No welcome book, or info about Lava or anything. I would maybe think that's because of the pandemic, but this place didn't care about the pandemic. There's no hand sanitizer in your room, no masks being worn, no linens in plastic bags or anything. Theres a plastic partition at the front desk, but they don't stay behind that thing. This was our first impression of the place. It got worse.

We opened the windows to combat the smell. The way you heat the room is a large wall heater in the living room that sounds like a small train. We had to shout playing board games. Also making board games difficult was the fact the main light in the living room was out. So why didn't we ask to have the light bulb changed? 

The first morning my wife and son went to the front desk for another blanket. We were in room 9 which has a king bed and pull out sofa bed. My wife wouldn't sleep under the comforter in our room, it was old, had some holes in it. I just think with everything overall it was hard for her to trust it's cleanliness. Those things are hard to wash and we couldn't be sure. There is a ton of closet space in the room. They're pretty much bare except for storage items, old pictures, heaters, a vacuum, some extra rubbish. There was one thin blanket, very old that my son used that first night. Since we had windows cracked to combat the smell he was cold. My wife and son asked for an extra blanket and felt uncomfortable. The staff at the front desk gave them a full 21 questions. Did they see the one blanket they left in the room? Did they know where the heater was? When the housekeeper delivered it she wasn't wearing a mask or gloves, the blanket was just rolled up in her arms. We saw her cleaning rooms the entire weekend in this manner. Lava doesn't believe in masks or anything, there's signs on the restaurants there about no mask protocols and if you have a problem with that, kick rocks. But even without a pandemic the housekeeper's cleanliness was suspect. I witnessed her go right from cleaning rooms to delivering a blanket, no gloves, mask, the blanket wasn't in anything. And the blanket was gross, old, scratchy. We drove to Pocatello and bought my son some acceptable blankets. So when the light bulb didn't work we didn't ask to get it changed. We didn't want them in our room, and dealing with the staff wasn't great. They weren't rude but it was just awkward. I asked for clean towels once and didn't get questioned. But when my son answered the door for them he got the questions again. Me being a grown man maybe saved me from questioning, but I would rather be questioned then come back from loading the car to hear my family say they're uncomfortable. "These aren't pool towels you know that right?" "Are you using them in the pool?" No we brought our own towels for the pool, but you only gave us 4 towels and the three of us are staying for 3 nights!

On Friday night I awoke to drunk shouts in the hall. No one's at the desk at night and the place is next to a bar. You can hear the bar at night, but these people were right outside our door. A guy named Jessie yelling about assaulting people. My son was sleeping in the living room. I sat in the chair between his bed and the door in case some random drunk guy burst through the door. I stayed up until about 3:00am when it was finally quiet. Super fun. The next morning police came and threw Jessie out. Not the hotel's fault, but not fun for us. We got a "sorry for the drama" on the way out, but I would have liked to see some sort of gesture. We were staying for 3 days, maybe half off that night, or a $25 gift certificate to dinner, tickets to the hot pools, something that just showed they cared. I told them and the police officer I was awake the whole night and my family was scared. They had plenty of time to make some sort of gesture. "Sorry for the drama" was all I got.

We got back to Boise Sunday, I got a COVID test Monday, I'm now COVID positive and quarantined in my office writing this. There is no way for me to know where I got it, it could've been anywhere in Lava, that place does not care at all about the pandemic. We shouldn't have gone at all, I assumed it would be quiet and the pools would have some measures in place, I thought it would be like McCall that has put in tremendous effort this year to keep visitors safe. We stay in Hotel McCall, another old, quirky hotel. I love old and quirky, it's why I chose this place. But old doesn't mean dirty. Quirky doesn't mean unsafe. Charming doesn't mean uncomfortable. Visit at your own peril. I attached photos, see for yourself.

Really Not Good

We went to Lava Hot springs last summer.  Springs were great, but we thought about how awesome it would be to book a place really close to the springs and go in the winter.  So we did just that!  Since this hotel is located so close to everything, we remembered it when we planned our trip booked their largest room.  Our trip was impacted by weather, and the owner was willing to work with us so we would not waste our money.  They really didn't have to do that, but they did care for our safety over their income.  Appreciate it!

Cute little spot, Great management/owner

This place is really funky. More like a motel than a hotel, and a bad one at that. The rugs were filthy, and the first time we flushed the toilet it overflowed. They "fixed" it and cleaned up, but it came dangerously close to overflowing several times during our 5 day stay. Our suite had a kitchen, and the refrigerator door opened into a wall, so it was really awkward trying to get anything in or out of it. There wasn't even a waste basket in the tiny bathroom and no place to put toiletries the sink was so small. The flatscreen tv was very far from the couch and too small to be that far away. On the way down the steps we had to duck so we wouldn't hit our heads as the bulkhead was very low at one point. I don't know how they have gotten the rating they have. AVOID, there are plenty of other places to stay.

Funky place - AVOID

I would never stay here again. This is the worst hotel considering the price you pay to stay here. The smell of cigarettes, sweat & piss was overwhelming. It is a VERY old hotel. The floors all slant to the South. The entire building needs to be demolished. Carpets were stained, oven was gross, the few dishes in the cupboard were dirty. The bathroom door was taped on. The entire place was grimy. I would have slept in my car if I didn't have had kids with me. It's in the same building as a bar and while the hotel has "no smoking" signs. You can't escape the smell being in the same building as a bar! Not to mention the loud music from the bar until 2AM. The hallway looked like it hasn't been vacuumed or dusted in centuries. I was completely grossed out. This place should cost $30-50/night. It makes me itch just thinking about this place.. eew!

A definite NO

Family of five looking for a place with a kitchen to save money from constant restaurants. The good, spacious and super convenient location, walking distance to the hot pools and the water park. Easy town to traverse on legs, love that. The bad: mold in a closet, needs a lot of updating (drawers don't works well, floor baseboards loose) the wifi and TV service went in and out one night, the mattress need to be replaced (not comfortable at all). Not enjoying nitpicking the place but at the price, expected better. Staff was friendly. We'll try a different place next year (Lava Hot Springs overall is great!).

Spacious, but won't return.

We made a last minute trip to lava to go swim and river float so the evening before I got online and this was the only place I could do online reservations I didn't want to spend $115 for a place to sleep but this was slim pickings for last minute. After swimming we picked up our key and went to the room. They are ok suites not worth $115 a night though..we went and ate walked a few blocks then headed back. We were in our room only a minute and we hear a strange noise so we went looking for it. It went on for a few then we found it, the shower drain was making this good awful noise, none of us had even ran any water in an any area for this to happen.  Shortly after we got a call and needed to head home, no one in the office after 7pm had to call to see if we could get a partial refund since we were only in the room for a few minutes and she tells me they don't give refunds unless the cancellation was made 7 days in advance ... I was like um ok how could we have made that possible since I just made the reservation the night before for the next evening??? I totally agree with a cancellation policy but 7 days is beyond ridiculous... and its life things are going to pop up unexpectedly there is nothing you can do about it have some sympathy and at least give a partial refund or something.. not my best choice in life to have chose this place but oh well lesson learned on my part, won't book here again.  And the ridiculous email that is like 3 pages long of the rules for this place is absolutely absurd!! Yeah you needed rules but come on we are adults here!!

Really?

I  stayed  there  with  my family  for  2 nights . Really  clean, comfortable  and  well equipped . Kitchenette  had side by  side frigid , saucepans   ,pans kettle , coffee  maker  and . ......Accessible and fans  in the  bedroom , clean  sheets , extra  Towle . ......
