Ok, I booked this hotel and then noticed all of the negative reviews. I was a little nervous as I showed up and realized it's in a residential area. (Its not the Hilton or some fancy resort of that is what you are looking for) However, I have no idea why there are so many negative reviews! This place was great! I got a single room (rm 17) it had a gigantic king size bed, plenty of room, it was super clean, with a refrigerator and microwave. The staff was very friendly and provided great service. I had a flight issue and ended up needing to check in early. They did everything they could to accommodate and get me in as early as possible. I enjoyed my stay and will definitely be staying again in the future. And I highly recommend ignoring all the mediocre/negative reviews, and giving them a stay. Very easy access to the airport, food, coffee, gas and groceries. So, definitely check them out! Thanks a bunch, Kauai palms!

Small place in the downtown care of Lihue. Homeless around the corner of hotel. Rooms very small for the $200USD+ for the night. Free coffee in the morning. No rooms have a/c so in the evening and at night ,very hot

Central motel, with clean rooms, simple, with mountain views, near the airport, with parking, bathroom, TV, refrigerator and air conditioning. There is a common microwave and free cafe served at 7 and 1 p.m.

Excellent motel without swimming pool

No island no microwave or kitchen room 3 small wifi of poor quality like very uncomfortable beds...really you don't have to go to this hotel we can find better for 200 e at night!!! Only the location is convenient

Very expensive for very low benefits

If you're looking for a resort, look elsewhere. My wife and I stayed here on a whim one night and it easily turned into a highlight of our week+ anniversary trip. Ron is a fantastic resource into the history and culture of the island! And Mango the cat is an incredibly friendly companion to all.

Exactly what we expected, and more

It's an extremely charming little hotel. Felt like a true escape from the bustle of city life, and didn't have the industrial feel you often get from big Sheratons/Hiltons/etc. Very helpful staff, excellent location (to the airport, beach, restaurants). Clean, decent-sized room, A/C worked like a charm. Will 100% stay here again if/when we come back to Kauai.

We were traveling in two very lightweight, a trolley with a head, which we had absolutely no idea where to put and open. An incredibly hot and humid room, to watch, they installed small air conditioners that shoot cold air on the bed and are very noisy, practically unusable. Services, no one, changing towels every three days. The only positive elements, the proximity to the airport and the Kauai brewery.

To be Avoided

Kauai Palms is a mom & pop hotel in Lihue.  We stayed for two nights at the end of our week long visit to Kauai.  Our room was clean and well maintained. The ac worked well and there was a small refrigerator.  We did not have much space but had no need to spread out as we basically just slept at the hotel.  The shower did have good water pressure and the towels were nice and soft. Check out and check in were easy and communication was very good. There’s a nice coffee truck around the corner and we heard good things about the Saimin restaurant and Kauai Brewing Company, both close by.

Affordable Hotel on Kauai

We had a confirmed reservation for Kauai Palms to arrive on Mother's Day, May 14th for 3 nights - while we awaited our condo to be open.  Made the reservation in March.  Received confirmation email and also called the hotel twice afterwards confirming they had our credit card info etc.  We had stayed at this same location 3 times in prior 5 years as a "transition" place before our Poipu condo could be available.  Twelve hours - yes, I said 12 hours before our arrival on a holiday weekend, I happened to look at my email and to see a notice that the hotel had cancelled our reservation.  One other important note, THE HOTEL SENDS A CONFIRMATION MESSAGE THAT READS IF YOU CANCEL WITHIN 3 DAYS THEY CHARGE YOU FOR 1 NIGHT.)  And here they cancelled just hours before our arrival. We were scheduled to get on a flight from Chicago leaving at 5 am in the morning, on Mother's day, May 14th with  no reservation - for 3 days during a very busy holiday period.  I called the hotel and spoke to two different representatives who said essentially we cancelled your reservation for two reasons - 1) on a prior visit you complained about the cable TV which did not work - (True,  tv did not work and they put us in different room, after they initially told us to call the cable company ourself. A manager addressed the issue and he is no longer there 2) you inquired about discount rate for seniors or retired military (True, we always ask if there is a discounted rate - and they told us there was none. We said, ok - and gave them our credit card for the holiday, non discounted rate.   We arrived in Lihue stressed for what was to be a dream vacation, and upon arrival, called around and got a reservation 6 hours later at another resort.   I rarely if ever have written a negative review.  I typicaly, give outstanding reviews or I write no review.  But this went beyond any limits.  Kauai Palms is unprofessional, unethical, lacking any sense of customer service.

Kauai Palms - DO NOT STAY HERE - GET ANY and I mean ANY other OPTION

The staff was friendly and the location was very convenient and I enjoyed the sweet orange cat but I will probably not stay here again. The water pressure in the shower was nonexistent and the temperature would randomly go between scalding hot and freezing cold without me even touching the shower knobs. The free wifi did not work in my room and I was a bit disappointed that there was not a good private or public option for lounging on hotel grounds outside of our tiny rooms. There are signs and reminders that we would receive fresh bedding and towels on the third day of our stay and that did not happen either. I think with a few updates this place would be an absolute gem.
