Stayed here for a girl's trip with four us in room nine. We were warmly greeted upon our arrival, with our special request of charcuterie board waiting for us in the room. There were so many fluffy pillows, and a large king bed. Everything was super clean, and the room was luxurious, elegant and cozy. The location was walkable to literally everything. We went to Heritage Tavern for dinner, and Oz by Oz for drinks after. We ended up staying in the room for the rest of the night playing games on the spacious floor because the room was just so cozy! Thanks to the amazing, knowledgable staff for making our stay so special. Will remember this weekend with my friends forever! 

Perfect Girl's Trip

I had a wonderful stay at Mansion Hill Inn.  I was struck by the ambience of the property when I arrived on an evening.  The lighting was just perfect.  The inn’s homepage does not do it justice because it cannot convey the ambience.  The common area is very well-maintained and elegant.  The staff are very helpful and friendly.  I feel very well taken care of.  I stayed in one of their small rooms, so there is not much to say about the room itself.  The room is comfortable and clean.  It has access to the large veranda, so I can relax outside as well.  The bathroom is very clean, spacious and there are two shower heads, one of each side, and  good countertop space.   The hotel is very centrally located, within walking distance to State Street and Capitol building.  Yet it is located far enough from the noise of downtown area.  I enjoyed my stay and I hate that I cannot give it a five star.   What holds me back from giving it a five star is the quality of the breakfast.  For the price it charges, the breakfast is very limited in the choices of food.   There are only fruits, breakfast pastries, yogurt, granola, breakfast bar, juice, coffee, tea.   I understand they do not have a full kitchen and cannot serve cooked food but for the price it charges, I expect a more bountiful breakfast with cold cuts, eggs, etc.   I hope they can improve the quality of the breakfast and I hope to stay there again when I visit Madison.

Helpful and friendly staff, well-maintained property with great ambience

It's hard to imagine why the Madison Hill Inn hasn't been reviewed before. Located at 724 North Pinkney Street in Madison, Wisconsin, in the historic Big Bug Hill neighborhood,  at the North Pinkney/East Gilman intersection in downtown Madison, on the ridge along Lake Mendota, it is described as Madison's most celebrated boutique hotel. And it has been around since 1856. It was the first residence on Big Bug Hill, which was Victorian Madison's most elegant neighborhood. And it remains one of four historic mansions still standing. This four-story German Romanesque Revival building covers 9,000 square feet. It features an oval shaped mahogany staircase and etched Venetian glass windows. It was converted to a boutique hotel in 1983 and extensively renovated in 2008. There are 10 rooms, all of which highlight the property's historic charm. The hotel's classic parlor has been preserved. The majestic bar was created for entertaining. Now a AAA 4-Diamond hotel, it features a concierge, fitness center and a complimentary European-style continental breakfast. My wife and I booked the Classic Suite 7, advertised as the "finest hotel room Madison has to offer." It includes a king-size bed, 32-inch LED TV, complimentary wi-fi, iron and ironing board, full size work desk, floor-to-ceiling windows, a private balcony, marble gas fireplace, wrought iron from the balconies to the buttresses, arched windows and a secret entrance behind the bookcase to the grand bathroom with a shower, whirlpool rub, elegant stone and marble vanities and state-of-the-art fixtures. And it is conveniently located, a block from Lake Mendota and a 14-minute walk from Capitol Square, the Wisconsin State Capitol and the University of Wisconsin campus.

Madison's most celebrated boutique hotel

Fantastic service and beautiful room. We stayed after getting married in Madison and can’t wait to return. 

The Inn served as the beautiful backdrop to our “first look” photos, and they couldn’t be better. The staff was very helpful making our stay great!

Fantastic stay

By far an exceptional stay! The location is in close proximity to UW, the capital, the lake, parks, etc. with complimentary bikes, valet parking, luxurious accommodations with a fabulous staff. The complimentary breakfast, coffee, specialty coffee drinks, and juice was a step beyond a continental breakfast- more European. Rodney, one of the staff members, was exceptional and gracious to all guests. He was very helpful, knowledgeable about the area, and tended to any need that arose. Every evening they have coffee, tea, cookies and treats. The home is very inviting. We felt comfortable and welcome in any room of the house. It was a very quiet, elegant stay, which was exactly what we were looking for.  The Wi-Fi is very good, the decor is lovely, Aveda bath products, great food, drinks and staff. You’ll never want to leave. 

Fabulous Stay

This place is so relaxing and lovely, I will be back. 

My room was gigantic and had a working gas fireplace, balcony ,and TWO (!!) showerheads in the large bathroom.  Did I mention that the bathroom had a heated floor? 

The staff is extremely accomodating, attentive without being intrusive; breakfast is delicious and low-key . The common area downstairs had great snacks and a bar with a wonderful selection.  The chocolate chip cookies at night were a nice surprise (and really good). 

 I was there visiting my college kid at UW, and as a mom traveling alone I felt very safe in this small gem of a B&B.  I also felt perfectly comfortable sitting alone getting some work done and enjoying a class of wine. It was a wonderful stay.

Lovely old mansion with modern amenities

The hotel is beautiful.  The ceiling moldings, the windows - spectacular.  You can enjoy a busy day in Madison - its fantastic restaurants, biking along the lakes, soaking in art or culture - and then return to this quiet comfortable beautiful structure.  The staff greet you warmly, remember you, and engage with you the perfect amount. (Not the overly chatty B&B owner, not the anonymous chain hotel desk clerk either).  The carpets are way more soft than you expect, the robes are luxurious, and the front desk is a rich wood bar.  Perfect.  Freshly baked cookies, espresso on demand...Just two nights and we remember the kindness of: Steph, John, Terrence, Christos, and Rodney.  Thank you!

Quiet special retreat in a bustling college town

Amazing architecture, history, and the room was just nothing short of spectacular. The staff was friendly,  engaging and had great suggestions for restaurants. We we definitely be returning here in the future. She loved the view from the top looking over the city. Made for a great memory

I absolutely LOVE the Mansion Hill Inn and stay here every time I come to Madison. The rooms are adorable, the staff is friendly, and the details are so appreciated- Aveda quality products in the bathrooms, great breakfast included in the price, and chocolate chip cookies waiting on your pillow. Not to mention such a short walk from downtown!! You must stay here:)

Such a gem!!!

Excellent historical hotel, arrived late, were greeted promptly and shown to rooms.  Breakfast was good and the service friendly and authentic.  I had room #1 in the basement / ground floor and it was huge.  The fresh baked cookies were an excellent touch.
