Three years ago, the owners converted this ordinary motel into a delightful boutique hotel.  Rated it 5 stars because our stay was fantastic in every way, but there are a few things that others might find slightly problematic (small bathroom, less than great lighting near beds, and noise from highway).  Entire facility and rooms are very tastefully appointed, comfy bed, cushy towels, mini fridge with two bottles of water provided.  Ear plugs provided by bed table as highway noise can be a factor, also with Caribou and Liquor Store across the street.  But heater/AC unit can be set to provide white noise, and we had not problem sleeping.  Tiny new sauna (6-7 people max) in back garage was super clean, efficient, and has Bluetooth (!) with great sound so one can rock or mellow-out to amplify the experience!   Breakfast was delicious and Fika coffee definitely did the trick.   Super friendly staff - would return in a heartbeat!

 

Great stay & best sauna ever!

The hotel is decorated nicely, and the front desk attendant was very helpful. If you are a light sleeper though, which I am NOT, you may want to find another place. The hotel sits right next to the road and it is very loud. They do leave earplugs on the nightstand which I was grateful for. Even with those in the road noise is loud. The price was a bit much for the room.

This quirky little place was a great find. The hotel itself is a bit odd looking on the outside, but the lobby, the little attached bistro, and my room were tastefully decorated and clean. The service here was outstanding. 
    A $10 breakfast voucher was included with the room. Crepes seem to be the specialty of the house bistro, and mine did not disappoint. If you happen to find yourself in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and need a place to spend the night and enjoy a nice little breakfast in a charming little bistro, Hotel Rapids should be your choice.

Great find a few blocks from the Mississippi…

What an upscale experience!  The room, the restaurant and bar were superb.  Plus trendy and unique outdoor space with sauna, deck with fire pit and very unusual yurt.  Yurt had tv, fireplace, games and comfy sofas.  AND very attentive and personable staff!

Great place!

Pillows weren't soft.Hard. bed uncomfortable. No maid service.didnt like hotel just offers crepes for breakfast. Bad location. Hard to find hotel.stain on carpet.room smaller than on picture on website.no in room phone.room smelled.rude staff.staff assumed I had a dog even though I didnt.expected a pool& much more for the rate.

We have stayed in Grand Rapids before and wanted to try a different hotel.  The Hotel Rapids is a gem.  The owners took a roadside motel and converted it into a charming fun place to stay.  The restaurant/bar is adorable.  Chris and Hannah were delightful and made our dinner awesome.  They only serve crepes for dinner and breakfast, which we thought was very unique.  What nice change from the usual hotel breakfast.  The staff in the morning was delightful too.  They have a lovely patio which we didn't use because it was too chilly.  We'll try it out on our next stay.  The bed and sheets were very comfortable.  Thank you Hotel Rapids for a lovely stay.

What a Gem!

Hotel Rapids is a very pleasant drive-up hotel where we stayed one night during our drive back to Canada.   The room is not large but it has all the amenities of a large hotel. It was clean and new with a well thought out floor plan. 
The bed was comfortable and it is a pet friendly hotel.  After an anxious drive in the dark to get there  (deer are everywhere!) we were happy to see there was a bar on site.  We enjoyed our drink outside by the propane fire pit in some comfortable loungers. The patio is tastefully decorated with flower arrangements.  The staff was very friendly. 
We were given $10 vouchers to be used towards crepes for breakfast.  They were made to order and delicious. 

Small but very comfortable hotel and dog friendly 

We were on a cross country tour on US2, and stayed here. It was a quaint and lovely place. There was plenty space to socialize. Our room a single queen, was snug, but the design and use of space was perfect. Breakfast was made to order crepes! Way better than waffles! Would highly recommend staying here.

This location was a roadside motel.  It's been completely updated, while still keeping some of the retro feel.  It has a craft cocktail bar with outdoor seating, a wide variety of unique crepes for breakfast, an exercise room, portable sauna, and a yurt meeting room.

The rooms are updated and comfortable.  The staff is friendly and helpful!  

I would definitely stay here again!

A Surprising Gem!

Clean room which was nicely decorated. LOVE the bathroom, and our room came with a kitchenette which is great. Good location, right on our road trip. Staff were very friendly. Breakfast menu consists only of crepes (really nice, if you like that sort of thing) but we were only given two breakfast vouchers despite three of us staying in the room. Coffee was also not included in our breakfast - vouchers $10 value each, so coffee took us over the limit.
