Do not ever stay at the Corn Palace Inn in Mitchell SD. Travelpass booked it for us. We asked them for the Comfort Inn and they booked us into this place. The room was so bad and smelled so bad we couldn't even stay the night and they refused to give us our money back. There were people sitting outside the rooms smoking cigarettes and looking pretty shady. It was the worst hotel we have ever been to. We wound up going down the road to the Holiday Inn express and got the last room there costing us an additional $245. 

Travelpass is not a site I would ever use again.

Been staying at this motel for going on 2 weeks. Also been waiting to write a review until we check out, however writing the review early. There is alot of stuff that workers attempt to get customers kicked our for through means of manipulating hotel management by lying to them while knowing there to busy alot of the time. Management seems to be respectful, I've been trying to avoid employees however there issues seem to be unavoidable and they seem to attempt to control management through the means of there manipulation. Spilled coffee outside today and even got targeted for a simple accident. There is only 1 female employee that seems to work at the motel. She seems to be an good gal, brought food to our room randomly and unexpectedly due to our situation and the issues the workers are causing. Front desk employees seem to be major culprets. Also the motel seems to be prejiduce towards guests that stay simply due to the resignations and where the funding comes from. Motel could be making alot more revenue then it is and the rooms could all possibly be booked because it is a nice motel, just needs better workers aside from that gal and management. Housekeepers seem to do a great job. Front desk employees chase away guests thus affecting the motels revenue. Would leave probably a 4 to 5 star rating aside from the laziness, issues, and lack of work ethic of the front desk employees. It all seems to stem from them not wanting to work or thinking there somehow better then everyone due to the fact they get to sit all day on there cell phone while other employees do all the work. And then try playing the wool over managements eyes on top of it.  I would still refer people to stay at the motel, however they have such a major issue with the lobby workers being lazy that they basically don't serve breakfast and I would cautious booking a room here.

Honest review, current guest

Stayed 1 nite from June 22nd 2023 to June 23 2023. Rooms are really clean and presentable. Some complete idiot was at the front desk in the morning who must have showed up late and didn't know how to do his job at all because he seemed like a total idiot. Breakfast was supposed to be at 7am, went down and apparently all there is was cereal and begals, lobby was empty and attendant was sitting on his but at the desk playing on his phone. Went back to room and came back down around 730am. Same situation. Guy needs to be fired. Lobby was dead, nobody was eating and it simply looked as though breakfast was happening (probably in order to convince his boss he did something) let me tell you, he deffinatly did something, make coffee and then sit on his phone, nothing else) I can't believe they actually pay people to do that at that motel. Literally there wasn't even a single bottle of water out or anything and nobody knew where the heck breakfast was even served at, like it was a top secret mystery hidden underground. Tried asking him what in the world, but he was to wrapped up in his phone while sitting there that it was like I was talking to myself. So I decided to check out and go to the quality inn across the road. Was planning on extending my stay based on how well kept the rooms were, however decided to book a 2 weeks there instead for the 4th of July Holliday. Who the heck hired that guy?! Read other recent reviews and didn't believe them, found out for myself. Guy only seems to do any work when it pertains to fooling the cameras, other then that his but stays glued to the chair, and hands taped to his phone. Must be nice to get payed sitting around on his phone all day.

Stay at the quality inn across the street instead

Had to book an overnight as decent hotels full.  Pathetic!  Got a room - people in it. Meanwhile, the same thing was happening to another party!  Took us to another - filthy & sink clogged. Found one that was open - reeked with rancid smoke, carpet filthy and tub didn't drain. Tolerated the night. Breakfast skimpy. Couldn't leave fast enough.  Should be shut down by the state!

Quiet, comfortable, nice size room and more!
I was going to be late in arriving at my scheduled time; I called back and had a friend call the Inn..
She returned my call a few minutes later!  "You cannot believe how kind, helpful and caring these people are!"  
They had told her that if he comes in after ten, 10:00pm there is a black mail box with all he needs in there ... also number on door to call and we will be right in to let him into his room  and insure he is comfortable.  I had asked for a first floor room and that is where I was put in.....
I am 86 years old and a little crippled.....
You just couldn't go wrong staying here...and then, visit the Corn Palace for more fun.

My room was nicer than any I have stayed in at $100 or more a night!

We liked the room and price, but we and some hunters were left to buy breakfast in a local restaurant, because no one showed up at the breakfast room we were told would be served.  We talked to another patron that said it was normal not to be able to count on breakfast.  We tried getting an answer on the phone by the office, no luck, so we went there and found a sing saying closed until 9:00 am, but it was still closed when we finally left at 11:00 leaving the key cards in the room.  The moral of the story......we still paid as much as other good hotels in the area by paying an extra $25 for a larger breakfast than we wanted.

The location is old and dirty, staff unprofessional, key card envelope was dirty had been crossed out and reused atleast 4 times. We were checked into a smoking room after booking a non smoking room directly with the property. We requested a refund as we were not going to stay there. Desk clerk had to call someone to figure out how to give the refund.

My mom and i stayed here 8 1 20 rooms were clean but had a fly or two no biggie nice bed comfy great location alot of restaurants near by walmart up the road molly at the front desk was awesome and they have good rates def coming back nxt year

Stayed here on a cross country trip with my dad. I ended up leaving an item at the inn when we left the following morning. We called a few days later when we realized it was gone and they had saved it and shipped it to me for free. Great customer service. Room was clean and tidy. Price was good as well as the military discount. Overall... A great little inn!

This was a disappointing stay. We weren't expecting much, but were still very underwhelmed. When we got to our room, we discovered that the 3 queen beds was actually 2 queen beds and a double sofa bed. There was no hand soap, so we had to go back to the office to get that. Our sink wouldn't drain, so we also had to get maintenance to come and fix that.

By far the worst part, though, was the lack of breakfast. Their website clearly advertises free continental breakfast. And, the office clearly has a breakfast location, with seating, fridge, toaster, and other breakfast things. But when we headed over to the office in the morning, nothing was out. We asked when breakfast would be, and were just told that there was no breakfast. The alternatives we were offered were some coffee and a 10% off coupon to a nearby Perkins.

One of the primary things we were looking for when booking was a hotel with breakfast, so to have it just not be there was extremely frustrating, and completely ruined our morning plans.
