Beautiful B&B.  The husband and wife team are exceptional and very helpful.  What a yummy breakfast every morning.  The rooms are very well appointed, no detail was overlooked.  The location is exceptional for exploring beautiful, picturesque Ouray.

The husband and wife that run the inn are the nicest kindest team ever.
The inn itself is gorgeous inside and out. The front rooms are perfect for just sitting and reading a book ,there are plenty to choose from. 
Breakfast is different each day and is made and served with love. 
Would return in a heartbeat. 

Best B and B I've ever stayed in. Well run and clean. 

First, the positives.  This is a beautiful B&B.  The room was immaculate, and the common sitting areas were clean and attractive.  All the furniture is beautiful.  This is a newly built home that was built to look old, and it was very well done.  There are lots of touches such as white woodwork that you might have seen in a period home.  It is in a convenient location only a block off the main street.  There is plenty of parking.

Unfortunately, there are plenty of negatives.  Personally, I go to B&Bs for the personal interaction.  If I just wanted a place to stay, I’d go to a hotel and spend less money.  But I choose B&Bs because they typically have friendly welcoming outgoing hosts that greet you and want to get to know you.  They are usually available for questions about the accommodation and offer suggestions on places to see in the town you’re visiting.  This place was unfortunately none of that.  

They have self-check-in, so we didn’t even meet our hosts until the next morning at breakfast.  Self-Check-in was introduced during COVID to limit the spread of the virus, but the pandemic is long over and if that’s their reason, it would be a transparent excuse.  It certainly has no place in a B&B where personal service is normally the hallmark. At the very least, I least expected them to leave a note that gave a phone number that you could call if you had any questions or needed any information.  The closest they came was a note in the room that said how they could be contacted in an “emergency”.  It also indicated that if we needed anything, we could ask them the next morning during breakfast.  That would be a little late if we needed recommendations on restaurants or sightseeing.

In the morning, she said good morning and introduced herself, but there was no conversation, no questions about where we were from, none on what our plans were, no getting to know their guests.  Many B&B’s go out of their way to provide a wonderful breakfast, but it was quite ordinary and sparse with some pieces of French Toast, two sausages and a small bowl of strawberries.  I don’t know what you would eat if you didn’t like French Toast.  He finally walked through the dining area, but didn’t even greet us, his guests.

Frankly, my overall impression was that they didn’t really want to be in the B&B business.


Unwelcoming

Supposedly the best room in the house but don’t ask for another blanket!  You will be told you’d need one.  They are still using Covid for an excuse to not clean the room during your stay.

For $350 a night they can do better

Underwhelmed

The B&B is a reflection of the owner operators and their pride in offering a home-like vibe. The rooms are thoughtfully furnished and the common areas are inviting. The location is perfect - steps away from the main streets and the noise but still in a quieter area. Crisp and clean. 
Just one suggestion - if you have any dietary restrictions, please let the owners know in advance. Breakfast is prepared fresh and one plate per guest. If restrictions are not shared in advance, the guest may go without. 

Nice little place offering comfort and homelike vibe 

My wife and I just stayed 2 wonderful nights here, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our room was delightful,  lots of natural light,  and beautiful scenery.  The common  dining and sitting rooms are really quite elegant,  and very comfortable.  The breakfasts were delicious and homemade,  and, as often happens for us at B&B`s, we met some wonderful new people over breakfast.  Strangers become new friends,  with all sharing insights into their real lives.  We really embrace these interactions,  and is why we often favor B&B`s.
Our hosts  Rich and Linea are very engaging and personable,  and made us feel right at home.
The location is fabulous,  just 1 small-town block off of the main street,  so all of town is in walking distance,  and the B&B stayed really quiet and peaceful because of the short distance off the main street. 
The hot tub is top of the line, was perfect at 104 degrees,  and so bubbly with loads of jets!
We highly recommend The Clipper Inn, and we definitely plan to return.

Charming, relaxing,  gracious hosts

We stayed at this B&B and used as a base for our adventures in the beautiful mountains. The Inn is located just 1 block off the main street and every shop and restaurant is easily within walking distance. Plenty of parking in front of the inn. The inn was decorated nicely and the breakfasts (quiche and biscuits were best!) were excellent. The owners cooked and served us and made us feel most welcome. Highly recommended.

Great stay and awesome breakfasts!

Last year we stayed at the China Clipper Inn and had a wonderful experience with the previous innkeepers, who catered to our every need and cooked up fresh baked breakfasts such as quiches, fresh baked treats every afternoon, and were very friendly, welcoming, and accommodating.  
After this year’s visit to the Inn, we were left with a completely different experience because of a change in ownership.  The new innkeeper was not very accommodating and did not provide us with the same level of service.  The breakfasts were ordinary and one morning, the scrambled eggs were cold.  The innkeeper was not very friendly, especially the second day when he served our breakfast. He plopped plates down in front of us as if he were annoyed or angry, didn’t return our “good morning” greeting, and walked away. He was ill humored and made us feel uncomfortable, as if we had done something wrong.  He was not very flexible in trying to cater to his guests.  For example, a couple asked him if they could leave a package of chocolates at the Inn because they were checking out and wanted to go on a hike.  He made a big deal about their request and it was apparent he didn’t want to accommodate it.  In addition, we asked for a delayed check out and the innkeeper denied it.  
The first night, one of the rooms we rented was filled with hundreds of gnats when we returned to the room after dinner.  We went downstairs and called the number provided and no one came.  The next day we asked the innkeeper about the infestation and he explained the gnats were bad this year.  It would have been nice to know this was an issue so we would have been better prepared to circumvent it. 
The China Clipper Inn is in a good location, is a decent facility, but not top notch.  The new innkeeper was not very polished or professional, nor was he motivated to make our experience memorable. It’s the little things that make a difference, and we will be looking for another place to stay on our next trip to Ouray.

A Disappointment this time around

This was our only B&B stay as we toured Colorado. Very easy to find, and close to the main street of Ouray. Our queen room was nicely decorated and welcoming for our overnight stay. Bed was comfortable, HVAC was easy to control, however we did need to pull-up a YouTube video to successfully switch from bath to shower :)
The owners provided a nice home-cooked breakfast (sausage, cheesy eggs and biscuit) and we had great conversation around the table with other guests. There is plenty of parking in front of the B&B. Shops, bars and restaurants are a short walk away. Ouray is a beautiful town, and we found China Clipper a great place to stay on our way to Black Canyon National Park (much preferable to anything in Montrose)

Nice change from hotels

This was the third B&B that we stayed in during our trip to Colorado. The inn is beautifully decorated and clean.  The owners are extremely friendly and helpful. Charlie went above and beyond for us, and Melissa made delicious breakfasts. There is plenty of parking and main street is only two blocks away.  Great front porch for relaxing with views of the mountains. Ouray is a beautiful town, and I would highly recommend staying at The China Clipper Inn.
