This accommodation DESERVES the #3 rating for medium sized hostels in the WORLD that it has EARNED per Hostels International.  Clean, well designed facility with exceptional hospitality in a safe and accessible neighborhood within a mile of the train station. Beside the very good cafe in the hostel itself, there are numerous excellent restaurants and bars within walking distance. Also ready access to the many natural attractions and entertainment venues in the Portland area.

BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK!!

I've stayed here several times over the past few years and it never disappoints. It was recently expanded and now has some very modern dorm rooms and private rooms, but I still enjoy staying in one of the older "wings" which has very large rooms and that great old Victorian Portland feel to it. The staff are wonderful and offer great suggestions on what to see and do. You definitely don't want to miss this hostel when you're in Portland!

I Stay Here Every Time I'm In Portland and You Should Too!

This Hostel is a Classic Gem that has expanded over the years to create a Compound of Fun Times & Good Vibes!  Somehow they managed to seamlessly blend in a new build to suit property with surrounding Historical Victorians. Great Cafe with reasonably priced meals and tasty local Beers!

A Pillar of the Hostel Industry!

This was a wonderful hostel in a convenient location. The cafe attached was a good place to sit with the service friendly and the prices fair. The facilities were good and all was clean, I stayed for a few nights and really got to feel at home at this hostel. I will be returning soon and can't wait. Only issue I had was that my flight was delayed and I didn't get in until late when the door was locked so I was trying to call the number on the door and my phone decided that it wasn't going to work - almost prepared myself for a night outside until I saw a lady walking through from cleaning the kitchen who worked there. I'll know for next time to make sure I'm there nice and early! 

Beautiful hostel, friendly staff

I stayed at many hostels before and this is definitely the cleanest, friendliest and nicest hostel I ever stayed at. The breakfast, the daily events and the café were wonderful. The staff is very nice and helpful. I met lots of amazing people there.

Best hostel experience ever

I don’t know how anyone can stay here and not give this place 5 stars. It’s clean, fun, centrally located, the staff is helpful and they even have complementary breakfast (just a bagel but it’s good). Their cafe is awesome and their gravy biscuits are delicious.  I will always stay here whenever I am in Portland.

Awesome hostel!

It was great experience! Friendly people, good community, and also good location! And the cafe have really good food:) I love that! I want to give more love to Portland because of this hostel! Thank you for owner too :) And the hostel’s event, it’s really fun and nice! You should join hostel’s event if you go there! If I go to Portland, I will stay here for sure! Friendly people, good location, good food

Forget the Hyatt I much rather stay at the Northwest Portland Hostel, I like to call it the little village! This place is amazing with such a great atmosphere, great food, cheap drinks and the staff are 100% the nicest and most friendly and helpful group that I've ever been met or been around. And don't let the word hostel throw you off cause they do have private rooms... Best 2 weeks I've ever spent in any place!!!!!!

THE BEST PLACE TO STAY IN PORTLAND

- LOCATION: at N.W. border of the central area _from (Amtrak +Greyhound +FlixBus) Stations. =Walk about 1.0 km W. _from (Airport) about 10 km W.S. by (Red) Street Car! _(No attractions) heart of D.T. =1.5 km S.E. _ (Supermarket) Fred Meyers is not far = 1 km S. _Local transportation close =2.5$ /2.5 hr. ride - 5$ /1-day use.
- HOTEL: is famous company in each city + Big size containing many connected bldgs. + Many types of common areas in different levels including full kitchen (Oven off = 22-07:00) + Free vending water ... Also, Cafe that serve limit BR = Coffee or Tea or Juice & Small size from cheese or Peanut or Jam - Butter & 1 Piece of Bread Bagel _But, Food & Hts. in US are expensive so excellent VALUE for Money.     
- ROOM.: There are many types _Dorms. with 50% capacity & Serve lower bunk only that contain own (outlet set +lamp +fan +shelf +without curtain +2 hock +V. big safe) & includes big window +Desk &chair &Don't use wi-fi but look like V. good ... There are Common BATH Rooms for each part = Complete & sometimes provide shampoo.
- STAFF: From Youth +Help + Map + Free Walking Tours @ Fri. +Sun. &Starting 10:30 & dur. 1.5 hr.

I stayed in one of the new construction, very large private rooms w/private bath.  For $139/night you can't beat the price, and the location is stellar.  However, it was clear the room had not been cleaned, even to pre-pandemic standards.  There were hairs on the sheets, crumbs all over the chair, and it was quite dusty.

I reported it to the front desk gal who was very apologetic, gave me new sheets and commented that there had been an issue with the previous guest which she thought might have been the reason.  But notably, she did not offer to have the room cleaned.

Cleanliness is the only thing I truly care about in a hotel, but I say I would give it a second chance because other friends have had good experiences there.  Maybe it actually was an anomaly.
