This place has never been one of my favorite to stay,but this past week I had no choice. I was dreading the few days but shortly after checking in, I met the housekeeper in the hall she was more than helpful and very friendly. I later found same lady and asked her for towels as none were left in my room she went above and beyond to make sure my stay was wonderful.  Wish I'd gotten her name.

Good housekeeper even if nothing else 

I titled this review because I had no other option but to stay at the Econolodge the other night. All the rooms in the area were booked for some reason. I am very grateful I had a place to stay for the night but this hotel needs to clean things up. the outside of the hotel is dirty as well as the inside. The heater in my room did not work, I could not get the TV to work, and there was no toilet paper. When you sit on the toilet, it bounces against the wall behind you. It must’ve done that plenty of times because the lid on the tank was cracked. Two of the four pillows were dirty. When I pulled back the blanket and sheets to check for bugs or dirt, there were hairs on the sheet. The shampoo bottles looked like they had  been half used. The outlet on one of the lamps did not work causing me to have to charge my phone across the room.  They left the door in the hall that leads to the outside, open all night. When I walked out of my room in the morning, it was like walking into a freezer. I don’t have a problem with a hotel being outdated, but it needs to be clean. I would avoid this place, unless you have no other option.

No other option

Guy ( maybe owner)at front desk is Rude, yells at customers offers no help what so ever. If you ask additional questions regarding anything he becomes even more hostile. He is the same guy who last yrs refused to assist us during our stay with parking. He will not even discuss options he just yells. We knew from last year the place is a DUMP but it’s the only hotel in town that has rooms with doors to the lot. We travel with a small trailer loaded with expensive cargo and merely requested to unhook the trailer and place it in the space outside our door. You would have thought we were asking for the world! He absolutely refused yelling “ Park in the Back, No No No!).
Now for the rooms. The place is disgusting in every area. Last year they had the door next to our room propped open all night. The smell from the room was horrific and they were clearly trying to cover it with copious amounts of air freshener. No question from my previous career I am very familiar with that smell. I’m sure the Coroner had been there recently. As for this year, it’s still a dump. The rooms are filthy, with stains on the beds, walls, TV screen, toilet etc…. The tub is worn out and corroded. The carpets are shot. The door and door jam has been repaired multiple times (think PD has forced entry routinely). The toilet broke and would not flush after first use. We had to remove the lid and make repairs to get through the night. There were questionable people meeting in the back lot and walking through. No question there is some shady activity occurring on premises. Do not stay here if you do not travel protected.
Because of the rather unique situation regarding our travel and the location with exterior doors we gave it one last try hoping things had improved? Well they didn’t! It’s actual worst. Do not stay here especially if you are a family, or don’t travel with your own linens and pillows.

Rude Staff, Filthy Room!

We had stayed at this hotel 3 or 4 years ago and were pleasantly surprised...BUT NOT THIS TIME!. The owner/operator of this  place is not American born and is milking it for every dime.  Original room we had booked looked like it had been slept in and carpet was dirty.  We were able to get another room that was barely satisfactory and it was very apparent that room and hallway furnishings had not been updated in a number of years!  The breakfast was SAD.  Won't stay there again and wouldn't recommend to anyone.  This motel should not be a part of Choice Hotels and the owner should have his franchise removed.

Disappointing Management and Hotel

The hotel was a huge disappointment we stayed here 4 years ago and things have definitely took a turn for the worse. 

The room had visible mold and water damage in the bathroom.  The bathroom exhaust fan was broken so all the metal in the bathroom showed signs of rust.   The wallpaper was stained and had multiple holes in the wall where something use to hang.   As well as it was bubbling and peeling off the walls.   The hvac system fan made a banging noise while operating.   All the lamp shades were cracked and broken.  There were visible stains on the curtains.   The room had a musty and stale odor it was supposed to be non smoking but there was a faint odor of cigarette smoke.   The room was dirty.  There was debris of old carpets lying around outside the hotel lying against the wall of the hotel.    

Stay away at all costs!

Filthy Dirty

This place is a dump! Worst experience ever! Keep driving - there are more hotels about 30 minutes North. The motels on the other side of the highway were sold out, so this was our only option at this exit.  Wish we would have driven a little longer.  We had two rooms (105 & 109).  Room 109:  When we pulled back the sheets on the bed, there were potato chips in the bed. So the sheets didn’t get changed after the last person or was the housekeeper eating while cleaning the room?  Seriously?  The tank cover for the toilet didn’t fit, holes in the walls, threshold missing, door didn’t close without forcing it, bugs in the sink, water that smelled, etc.  Room 105:  Toilet was not bolted well to the floor and  thought it was going to break when sitting on it. 
This motel is in need of major renovations, (which we were told were just starting).  It’s also in need of management that cares.  They should close the motel and complete the renovations before they take anyone else’s money.   Ask to see the room you are getting before you pay.  The best thing about our stay was the front desk clerk.

This place is a dump!

I was driving through West Virginia on my way home to Ohio when winter weather made me rethink driving further through the mostly rural area without many places to stop. On top of that, I was traveling with my dog.  

Fortunately, I found the Econo Lodge in Ripley.  What a relief!  They accept dogs for a $20 fee.  The room was clean and quiet, and the bed and pillows made for a comfortable night's sleep.  They have a fitness room with treadmills so I could get up and exercise the next morning, then I got some work done at the desk in the room before heading out in better weather.

Everyone on staff was very friendly and helpful.  I couldn't have asked for more.  Thank you Econo Lodge of Ripley!

A Welcoming Port in a Storm

Poor heating. Lukewarm shower. Not helpful staff. Dirty. Cheapest in this town: and it shows. I’m afraid to try breakfast, so can’t comment on that. Cancellation rate $55. Keep that in mind. I didn’t see no bugs

Poor quality 

I’ve stayed at this hotel several times now and have been very happy every time! The staff is super friendly and the rooms are very clean. Whenever I’m in Ripley this is my go to place! It’s really nice to be greeted with kindness and a smile.

Great Hotel

People were very nice from checkin to checkout.  Bed were comfortable.  May need a little upgrading but was nice for the price.  Breakfast was good and had a variety during covid.  Will stay again if ever in Ripley again.
