Our car blew a water pump in Road Forks and we were grateful that this motel was open.  The room is only satisfactory but it was clean.  The shower water was hot and the totally vital air-conditioning worked.   The room rate was $58, higher than in years past but given that we had no choice it could have been worse.  The new owner of the motel was accommodating in our need to stay well beyond check-out time while our car was being repaired.  The main problem with staying here is that there is no food in Road Forks except for a few sandwiches in the gas station store.  The "and restaurant" is currently not in business.

Grateful for a Place to Stay

i stayed here last year and things are about the same at the motel this year. when i reserved the room at an aarp rate, i was told by a woman it would be $45 including tax but when i checked in, a male worker said it would be $40 including tax. i had also been assured on the phone that all rooms had a fridge and microwave, but when i got there i had to ask to have them moved into the room. bottom line- don't believe anything they tell you on the phone.
the room was large, king bed, 10 tv channels, broken-down furniture, and a door lock that barely worked- the man said he's been planning to fix it. bottom line- owner doesn't care about the property. restaurant, bar and pool looked to be permanently closed. they have no ice machine. there were only 3 other occupied rooms. 
 positives: cheap, clean, no bugs, quiet, nice place to see the stars at night!!

quiet, cheap place to stay for a night.

i stayed here because i was going hiking at cave creek, which is 40 miles away in portal, arizona. desert west is the only motel along a strech of i-10 between willcox, arizona and new mexico.
it's a typical rundown motel. the room was actually decent size and reminded me of a motel 6 room, but the furniture was dirty as it is at most cheap, dumpy motels. the walls were thin. i had called and was assured that there would be  a fridge and microwave in the room. but when i got there, the woman said that only 1 room had them and that room was occupied. she also said that only a couple tv stations were available because they lost their dish satelite service and it would take a few days to be fixed. the gas station across the street was all out of gas and the restaurant was closed but the woman said she could make a hamburger for $8. the place gets almost no business due to its isolated location. if you just need a place to stay for the night and don't want to drive to willcox or lordsburg, then this place is ok. it was quiet, no bugs in the room.

If you need a place to stay, this is adequate for a night. There's NO frills involved.  It's surely quiet.  Staff was friendly.  Shower was hot.  WiFi worked.

Called ahead 3 days before, talked to "Tina"...asked for King Bed looking out towards I-10.  She quoted me $40.00 with AARP discount.  Got there 15 minutes before 2:00 pm checkin, and was charged $45.00.  Receipt showed we checked in at 0930 am (not).  She was not friendly, put us in Room 114 (2 double beds), where we faced the empty swimming pool.  She said there were no King Beds available.  There were NO people checked in, a broken down car parked in front facing I-10 to make it look like someone was staying there. Room has been vacant for a long time.  This place has potential, but the owner doesn't seem to care.  Restaurant closed, pool closed,  rooms closed in back(some without door handles),  no hot water, no fire extinguishers, overgrown and not maintained, scary, towels old and musty.  Noone checked in that night.
