We stayed here in August of 2019, on our way back to Canada.  We had stayed at the Quality Inn in Rutland at the beginning of our road trip in July, and were going to stay there again, except they were completely booked, so we settled on the Econo Lodge instead.  While there was absolutely nothing special about the room (it was incredibly small), there was nothing offensively bad about it either (it was reasonably-priced, very clean and had good air conditioning).  If you're okay with an average motel stay for a decent price, this place isn't bad.  If you're looking for luxury accommodations and amenities, look elsewhere.

Adequate in every sense of the word

I had a reservation for February 5, 2022 that I made in early October.  I was about to depart from my house the night before and got an email from them canceling my reservation on a Saturday right after 18" of snow at nearby Killington Ski Resort despite on my side the cancellation time for me to be able to cancel passed 2 days ago.  I called the hotel and finally reached them.  They told me they had a contract with the State of VT and weren't interested in out of state visitors.  I told the guy I had a contract with them.  The guy also told me he had tried to contact me many times.  I called him out on this lie.  Needless to say my trip was ruined.

Don't stay here

I realized that something was amiss when I walked up to the entrance and encountered an old guy who identified himself as “security.” He told me the lobby was locked because half of the rooms were rented by the city to house homeless people. He called the manager who showed up in a few minutes. 
The manager told me they kept the homeless on one side, and travelers on the other side. He gave me a “breakfast bag” because of COVID. He told me we were in one of the newly remodeled. It was, but the work is being done by amateurs. The hot and cold faucets were switched, and the ungrouted tiles in the shower are an invitation for mold in the near future.
The room was dark but clean for the most part. The bed was OK with a fairly new mattress.
Once it was dark, the residents from the other side were roaming around the parking lot, making for a very uneasy night.
Driving down Route 7 in the morning, it became obvious that there’s more than a few motels in Rutland. I suggest you try almost any of them. We were looking for inexpensive, but this was beyond the pale. My advice is to shell out a few more bucks and enjoy your stay in Rutland.

There’s much better in Rutland

I rented 5 rooms to bring my team to a track meet at Middlebury College.  Although less expensive than many rooms in the area, I didn’t think $90 per night was this cheap.   It was awful- filthy rooms, blood on the pillow of one room, holes in the wall, mold on the wall.  At 3am the cops were called to break up a party of underage drinking.  No one got any sleep, and the girls said they would have been better off sleeping on the bus.  Reading the other reviews, a few are good, so I’m wondering if there is a different wing of rooms as that wasn’t the case for any of ours.

Worst hotel ever

The room had a oil or paint smell when first walked in.  The bathroom floor (vinyl squares) was broken up and SO small that you had to open the shower door to use the toilet.  The heating element was so noisy as to wake you up whenever it cycled.  Then, the facility is right on Route 4 (major street) so at 4 am - here come the police cars with sirens blaring. And the cable didn't work.

One and done!

The Econo lodge in Rutland has a world of hurt and bad karma coming there way! A homeless man got a room there paid for by the state to get out of the cold for a few nights. The room had no toilet paper, garbage pails, shampoo, soap, and also didn’t have a working phone or TV. But he was just happy to have a place to stay and didn’t complain. To pass the time he used the computer in the lobby (since he didn’t have a phone or tv). The owner then told him that he stinks, and to get out of his lobby and physically pushed him out the door and I witnessed it! Then, last night the state paid for him to have another room again because of how cold it is. Unfortunately it was at the Econo again. When this man got there they refused to give him his room that was already paid for because they didn’t want him there. But they had no problem taking the money for him! 
Shame on you!

Thieves and just plain bad people.

You get what you pay for. It was a good budget hotel. Nice stay, friendly staff, clean room. I read some of the other reviews, i had to laugh. I think people think they should be getting a marriot feel from an econolodge for 55 a night...lol
It was a good night stay. No real gripes from me. Remember marriot $200 a night, econolodge $55.

This is probably the worst hotel stay I've ever had and I've stayed in many places around the world including campgrounds and hostels. The room was old and dirty with ripped floors, a TV that didn't work. Two broken, sunken in beds and lights that did not work. The manager brought the lobby tv to the room which is why they get a one star. He told me we would be compensated for the huge inconvenience. We called several times both I and Expedia to no avail. The same manager who told me he "would take care of it, it's not coming out of my pocket anyways"....answered the phone and flat out lied "I don't know when the manager is back, he has gone to India for 20 days!". Needless to say action is being taken against this crook. DO NOT STAY HERE.

Worst Hotel Stay

The person at the front desk was friendly.  The room I had was on the second level.  The room was ok clean.  The reason for one star was due to a gap in the door which I did not notice till I went to bed and you can see light through the door.  Then a mouse had sneaked in through there.  Woke up to crackling sounds it was trying to get into a plastic bag.  Had to chase it out.  Gladly I was only there for a bit during the night and did not have to stay long left before breakfast.  The rooms are loud and you can hear all of your neighbors and they were not being loud.  The outlet and light by the bed did not work.  The location was convenient its near a lot of gas stations, grocery stores.

Had the cheapest rate

This motel is pretty rough - we ended up in a corner room that didn't have windows and looked like the door had been kicked in once or twice previously, and only barely closed.    it didn't do a great job of keeping the cold air out whilst we were there over the winter.  The whole place needs a refurb, and im not sure you can do much for a room without a window other than block it off and use it as a cleaning closet.    

Breakfast was ok - generally a cold buffet, but there were waffles and toast available.   
Would advise the owner to go easy on the religious radio in the breakfast area - not everyone wants to listen to preaching first thing in the morning.  
Manager was helpful enough.
No maid service at all:  Beds weren't made, towels weren't changed at all during our 4 night stay.    Maybe that's normal in Econolodge, and/ or normal at this price point.   Not sure.       
All that being said, it was cheap (<100/ weekend night in ski season)  and available at short notice, and the heater worked, albeit noisily.
