Sequoia National Park

This is a rustic lodge but well equipped for a comfortable stay. Every one of the staff was very friendly yet professional. The staff went out of their way to make your stay pleasant and worry-free. Special shout out to Celine who appeared to be ever present and ever ready to help!
They provide breakfast, lunch and dinner and a well stocked pantry for other times. We are vegan/vegetarian and were a bit concerned about not having much of a choice. The concern was exacerbated by lack of other restaurants or eateries. But it was totally unnecessary since they had quite a few vegan options - including lemon raspberry cake (feast your eyes on the yummy cake below)!
One negative was the age of the mattress. to put a positive spin on it, it brings the couple closer - since it sags in the middle :-). The overall experience was so pleasant still that I prefer to still rate it a 5. Hope management takes care of it though.
We would highly recommend this place and plan to visit again (once the highways get fixed).

A very pleasant experience

Montecito Sequoia Lodge was perfect for our trip to Sequoia National Park.  We stayed in a queen room. The room was clean with ample space for our things, the bathroom was of generous size and there was a mini fridge and microwave.  There’s no AC in the rooms, which seems common in this area. There was a quiet ceiling fan in our room that worked great. 

The meals we had were all great. We loved that we didnt have to think about what and where to eat on our trip. We just showed up at mealtime and ate what was being served. If you’re not a super picky eater, i dont think you’d have any complaints with the food. They have smores every evening also, but we were too full from dinner and dessert to partake in those. In the morning, there is a sandwich station set up so you can make sandwiches to take with you for the day.  They came in very handy so we didnt have to come back for lunch. 

We didnt plan any hikes ahead of time, but the staff were very helpful with that. They gave us a map and highlighted all the trails that they thought were must see’s. 

Overall we felt very at home at Montecito Sequoia Lodge and loved that our meals were included.  If i was returning to the area, i would definitely stay again.

Relaxing stay

Friendly staff, plenty to eat, centrally located.  The public area of the lodge is huge and has games and puzzles.  Deck has nice view.  Breakfast and dinner service, and you can pack a lunch for hikes.  Extremely convenient.  

Great for families 

Montecito Sequoia Lodge Summer Camp is a very special place. Think of your stereotypical Summer Camp for kids but for the entire family. There’s a huge range of activities in the beautiful setting of Sequoia National Forest.
We’ve been there 2 years in a row. Our son is 13 years old, so was 12 the first time we went. His cohort both years combined the 12 year olds (the Cougars) and 13+ year olds (Bears) into the ‘Coubears’. We see very little of him while we’re there because he hangs out with his cohort group, morning, afternoon and evening, meals included because he enjoys the freedom and independence.
We got a family room in the main lodge both years which includes a King and bunk beds (2 beds). It’s basic but very clean. This year our room was a lot nicer than last year - was bigger, had a walk in closet and 2 large windows instead of just one above the king bed. The rooms we have been in would be small for a family with 2 kids.
The activities are led by paid staff or counselors (mostly college students or young adults in their 20’s)with assistance from the Kids In Leadership Training (KILTS) who are 14-17 year olds in training to become counselors. The counselors in particular are very welcoming, friendly and knowledgable and lead the various activities. They also provide a huge amount of family-friendly entertainment, during morning ‘pow-wows’ where they sing songs and make daily announcements, and during the various evening special events such as campfire songs, karaoke and variety shows. My husband and I loved being able to do our own thing while our teenager was also participating in the same activities (but at different times) such as tennis/pickle ball, tie-dye, archery, kayaking/paddle boarding on the small lake, hiking or yoga. Sometimes our son didn’t do the organized activity for his cohort and we’d all do something together as a family.
The quality of the food is a little mixed. It’s served Buffet style for every meal. Sometimes it’s really good, other times it’s average. There are always vegan and gluten-free options, pre-packaged snacks (trail mix, cereal bars, chips) and fresh fruit (oranges, bananas, apples). Coffee/tea/hot chocolate is always available too - there’s marshmallows and whipped cream available so hot chocolates are very popular with the kids. There’s plenty of sugar available - the desserts after dinner can be a huge array of sinful cakes and sweets, and the only yoghurt they provide is sweetened. But veggies and salad are available with lunch and dinner. Unfortunately they use all disposable plates/cups and utensils.
I would also recommend starting to come when your child/ren are 4-6 years old. Unless our son becomes a KILT (which he says he wants to) he has outgrown the camp as a guest. And if you return during the same week each year you and your family will see lots of familiar faces. Highly recommended.

Lots of family fun in beautiful location

Great place. Staff generous and friendly. Love the social vibe. Location gorgeous. The signage to find it needs improvement. The detour has good signage but very long and you need to go slow. I hope they can get the road fixed!

Great spot

We have been to MS Lodge 8 times.  3 weeks in the summer and 5 Thanksgivings.  It is a great place for families to spend time together, unplug and have fun.  You don't have to think about anything except what do you want to do each day. We have made great friends with other families and the kids all have a blast.

Everyone in the family gets a vacation

We had a great stay at Montecito Sequoia lodge in October. Our room (Lakeview Villa) was comfortable, clean, and convenient.  The staff were friendly and helpful. We loved the location for exploring Sequoia and Kings Canyon national park- and its beauty. Plenty of food options, games to play in the lodge, and things to do. We would definitely come again.

They were a bit understaffed in the off season, so there was only one activity to do (archery) and only one of our nights did we get a campfire. It would be even more fun during the busy season, although it was nice and quiet when we went. We did use the canoes and trampoline quite a bit :) 

Get an upper level room if you can; we heard our upstairs neighbhors walking and talking until 10pm every night. They didn't wake the kids so we didn't mind too much. The food is average but plentiful. Kitchen staff was wonderful. 

We were there 2 days and everyone wants to go back for longer some time. We definitely recommend this place. It is a camp, so just be prepared for family fun and nothing fancy.

So fun, so relaxing, so beautiful!

Loved the location, food was fine, room  in the Red Feather lodge was Ok, but guests in the neighboring rooms were inconsiderate with loud talking and slamming doors when they returned to their rooms after midnight.   Unfortunately, it made a four star review a two star review.  Not the lodges fault, but perhaps they could remind guests  at check in of quiet hours after 10pm and add quiet hours on their welcome sheet.  Not sure we will return after this experience.  Or maybe we'll spend the extra money and get a cabin instead of a room.

Thin walls + inconsiderate guests = poor stay

We had a wonderful experience at Montecito Sequoia Lodge.  The front desk staff was extremely accommodating and allowed us to check in early.   
Lots of activities for the family that we enjoyed.
The buffet foods are a plus. Would stay there again.

Montecito Sequoia Lodge experience

Located in the National Forest beside a man made lake the resort is the perfect location which is why we stayed here for one night.

The forest cabin was superb although lacking in any cutlery, crockery of glasses even though it did have a full kitchenette. On a cold night the heating was excellent and the beds very comfortable and we slept well. Great view of the forest from the main room.

Dinner, breakfast and snacks were included and the snacks were great as long as you beat the construction workers to them in the morning. Unfortunately the dinner and breakfast food was not up to the accomodation standard being very poorly presented, appearing to be thrown into the baie maries and quite unappetising. Worse still, there appeared to be no heating in them and the food was quite cool to cold.

Staff were excellent but the food presentation really let the whole operation down.
