The Nutmeg is a Bed and Breakfast in Wilmington Vermont.  My first.  The owner was fantastic with helping to set up our stay.  (On one of the busiest weekends of the year.)  I set this up a few months ago and mentioned I was bringing my mother and we needed adjoining rooms.  She maneuvered the bookings so we could have rooms 1&2 which share entry into the puzzle/game room.  The Inn is old and has a long history.  Has 4 large common areas.  A pool, an honor bar, fire pit and a fantastic breakfast offering.  It is up to date where it needs to be and comfortably, cleanly quaint everywhere else.  Go here! #TheNutmeg #wilmingtonvt

Good Nut!

We loved this place! In addition to being tastefully furnished (with a game room!) there is an obvious commitment to sustainability (cloth napkins and silverware) and equity with respect to staff. The breakfast is so terrific: loved the overnight oats, french toast  and scrambled eggs with spinach and feta. We would return in a minute.

This is the place you want to be

We loved the Nutmeg! It is so cute and well decorated, clean and the bed was one of the most comfortable beds I’ve slept on. The service was also awesome. We let them know that we were eloping that day and asked for an early check in which they were able to accommodate , and then came in to flowers, champagne and a nice note! They went so above and beyond. We will surely be back next time we’re in the area.

Comfortable, cozy and excellent service

We had a lovely stay at the Nutmeg! It is a charming Inn with all the attention to detail. Our room was very comfortable and breakfast was delicious! In the evening, we walked around the lovely town of Wilmington and there were several great choices for dinner. We'll be back!

A charming and comfortable Inn

The Nutmeg Inn is a wonderful inn. Our room was a Queen suite on the first floor. It was spacious, with a separate living room. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was beautiful. They allowed us to bring by our dog to that room. There is a wonderful walking trail behind the inn…I only walked a mile or two but you could walk to Canada! Breakfast was really good…the waitress very nice. I had a short conversation with Sherry, the owner, and she was lovely. 

A great place to stay

I happened on the Nutmeg when I got stuck in Wilmington after skiing during the most recent blizzard.  I knew of it before but had never stayed...  when i called multiple hotels/motels, they were the only ones with vacancy and took us in last minute.  Upon arrival my daughter and i checked in and seeing as we had not eaten real meal since breakfast we asked if they had any food available for purchase Chelly told us she would just cook extra and share what she was making for her family...  Before dinner, her son Harry knocked on our door and brought some delicious chips with hummus... Certainly not their normal operating procedure but under the circumstances it was a huge relief for me and more importantly, my teenage daughter.  My daughter grabbed a sprite from the self-help bar and I got a Fiddlehead IPA.  When dinner was ready a short time later Chelly set us up at the table in the room of all of the images of powerful women... this was great for me to discuss with my daughter and see who she recognized from the long list...   Not only was the food delicious it was borderline gourmet!  We retired to the room and slept away our worries of getting to Woodford until morning...  the beds were luxurious, comfortable and warm.  We woke late and headed down for breakfast at 8 a.m.  We started with orange juice, cranberry juice and coffee.  The coffee was delicious and much needed knowing the shoveling we had to do later!! But the French toast was to die for!  my daughter got the fruit and I the bacon... we both won!  We were quite full by the time we pushed ourselves away from the breakfast table to get ready to brave the snow!  We will definitely keep this gem on the list for the future and based on my experience my wife has already suggested we go back alone sometime soon.

Chelly was my angel in a time of need in dangerous weather...  so glad we ended up at this very neat and clean place that made our worries melt away while the snow piled up.

Lucky in Wilmington!

Very close to the nice town of Wilmington VT, with multiple breweries and restaurants. Breakfast was excellent, definitely try the French Toast, the actual toast itself was probably the best I've had anywhere. Lucky enough to get a complementary upgrade when we arrived. The inn has 3 different common rooms well stocked with books and games to relax in. 

Excellent Breakfast

I think The Nutmeg is fairly nice, but my review is certainly influenced by our stay just prior in one of the best B&B's ever.  The Nutmeg suffers by comparison.  We were greeted by Shelly who was pleasant.  She did make a point to mention (more than once) the beverages in one of the many common rooms.  She did tell us they were available for an added charge.  However, she did not offer to show us the other common areas nor to our room.  That was almost the last we saw of her during our 3 night stay other than a chance encounter in the breakfast room when she was chatting with a couple of other guests who appeared to be friends of hers - we passed with no acknowledgement we were there which seemed strange.  
The room was ok, but a bit tired with a few problems or shortcomings we noted:
No Hooks on any of the doors including bathroom for hanging robes, etc.
One fairly small towel rack in smallish bathroom
The Leftover Hearth from old fireplace is dangerous - a broken toe or trip is a distinct possibility 
No checkout instructions - luckily, I spied the key cleaning box on a table 
My wife enjoyed breakfast - I was disappointed ... no sugar free provisions or questions about dietetic needs.  A choice of 4 items, but at least 2 of the days those choices were exactly the same - none of which to my liking.  
Parking rules were fairly adamantly explained to us - when returned at night it was obvious no one listened or obeyed
In defense of the Nutmeg, this is a bit more of an Inn since there are 14 rooms (I believe) and not a B&B in the strictest sense.  It is a neat old building with some work clearly underway.  The location is difficult to pick out at night and the entrance / exit is in middle of a curve and since the road is busy exiting can be problematic.  Overall, a very nice choice, but it could be better - I felt everything was done for the establishment's convenience (a sentiment my wife did not really share) as opposed to the customer's.  
It is in a great spot to explore the green Mountains - especially Scenic Rt 100.  The prices are very reasonable, and it is close to what Wilmington offers as a fairly small town.  You could certainly do worse!

Nice, But Slightly Disappointed

My husband and I spent 1 night at the Nutmeg on a recent Vermont Route 100 road trip.  We arrived around 6 PM so we weren’t able to get a view of the outside until the morning.  The inn was warm and inviting as soon as we walked through the door.  Our room was on the first floor, next to the game room.  The was another couple playing scrabble and inside our room we couldn’t hear a thing, however if you are a light sleeper, try for a second floor room.  You can really hear the traffic at night.  The breakfast was amazing and the chocolate chip cookies were delicious.  We never met the owner, but the woman who brought us our breakfast was very sweet and told us the history of the house.  My only complaint would be the carpet in our room was a worn and old, but carpeting is one of my personal quirks.  The hardwood floors in other areas are beautiful and I just wished we had that look in our room.  All in all a good stay and we would definitely recommend to anyone traveling to Wilmington.

First stop on a Route 100 Vermont road trip

Delightful inn. The owner is very friendly. It is an odd old structure, so the rooms are oddly shaped to match the structure.  There are extensive common areas to lounge in that are great.  It is very clean. The breakfast frittata and the French toast breakfast are both superb. I arrived after dark and could not see the sign and my GPS did not locate it correctly... something I hope they fix.  The owner talked to us late into the evening so that we could find our way there.
